@Pizzagirl, that looks like so much fun, I got excited just reading the website! I think that’s an incredibly cool way to celebrate a birthday! And there’s one a little more than an hour from my house. I wonder how my daughter would feel about having her wedding rehearsal dinner relocated?
Hang in there Bunsen, at least there’s no hip damage. That’s good to know. Keep us posted on the SI eval.
MOWC, some people just need to spend a lot of money for something to hang their laundry on. In any event, at that price point for a treadmill, if it were going to actually be used by 2 people on a regular basis, after about a year it would probably only be good for laundry hanging anyway.
I know (about the price point). That’s the other thing. I have a firm belief that you can’t get a decent treadmill for $1000 unless someone is unloading a high end used one (or barely used one) that you can grab. When I broke down and took the step to get my own dreadmill in 2014, as some of you will remember, I carefully researched it and piggybacked on the extensive research of both my son and another running friend in PA who runs over 2000 miles a year. She actually went around to different stores and vendors and did actual workouts on the treadmills before she decided. We all came up with the Landice L7 as the right choice for us. I realize not everyone can spend that much (it isn’t the most expensive out there, but it sure isn’t the least, either).
The whole treadmill thing is, unfortunately, a Catch 22. I completely understand why many people (especially someone who runs very little or not at all) would figure that an inexpensive treadmill would be adequate. Unfortunately, if the belt is narrow and no is loud and not smooth, they will hate it and not use it at all! I’m a little picky, for sure, but I don’t even like when a ceiling is too low- like in many hotel “fitness centers”. I’m only 5’4" and won’t hit my head, but I feel claustrophobic.
Bunsen, for what it’s worth, my right SI joint is my Achilles Tendon for my lower back.i have chronic pain there unless I routinely and persistently do exercises designed to strengthen the supporting musculature of my lumbar spine, hips and pelvis. I have found bridges, bird dogs with a resistence band, one legged squatting (on my bad side and often with a stability challenge like a Bosu or step bench) and planks to be particularly helpful. Hopefully your doc will rule out any structural issues and can give you remedial exercises that will be helpful.
BB, I will curious to hear what help you get with your SI joint, too. Mine is loose and wobbly after years of compensating for hip issues. No pain, just excess motion and some noise. Good luck.
Big congrats to Ohio on his weekend races - FallGirl, hope you’re feeling better today. Between pollen and pressure changes my head has been killing me. Bunsen, serious bummer on the hip issues!
Okay run Saturday, the heat and humidity are the worst. Working on some running mechanics issues - namely cadence, so Mr. Sabaray helped out with some video to send to coach. Things are not as terrible as I had feared. Cadence specific workout on the treadmill this morning. Felt great to be in a climate controlled area!
Quick trip this coming weekend, so am squeezing in two Pilates sessions before I go - a mat class today and session Wednesday.
Diet report from the weekend’s wedding: the only food item at the rehearsal or wedding with vegetable content was cole slaw with so much dressing you couldn’t see the green of the cabbage. Had to get my veggies at Cracker Barrel. Need I say more?
OTOH, I got a workout setting up decorations on Saturday. Up four pounds over the weekend, probably water.
sabaray- that’s interesting about the cadence work. Glad you got to be in the cool!
3.1 this morning was tough. I’m not doing well this summer with the humidity. I usually am a good hot weather runner, but not this year. Did wear new Hoka Clifton 3s and liked them a lot.
My vote is definitely water weight. I also think we must be related somehow - sounds quite a bit like my mother’s family!
I have been buying Private Selection marinades recently - so we grilled beef bulgogi in the middle of a torrential thunderstorm yesterday - served with roast brussels sprouts. Can you tell I’m cleaning out the refrigerator?
Why do the weekends always seem so short?! I had a good 5K time at my race on Saturday and then later in the morning followed up with another 6 mile run. But it was really hot and humid so the 6 miles was not that great. Lots of extra walking and yardwork all weekend so I’ve gotten plenty of exercise.
CD - glad you made it back OK, and LOL on the lack of veggies!
dmd - your upcoming wine ride sounds wonderful! I have the same issue with getting chilled after biking. When we ride we usually stop somewhere for lunch and I end up freezing and shivering. I’ve taken to bringing along a fleece to wear during lunch!
PG - the treetop adventure sounds very fun. We did something similar with our kids in Thailand and it was a blast. They have a treetop place here in Indy and friends who have been have said it’s great. I’m sure your whole family will really enjoy it.
Back from traveling over the weekend. My step count should be high this week! Eating not bad except for the bag of Garrett’s cheddar popcorn - of which I enjoyed and savored EVERY. BITE! Need to force myself to stay home this weekend, get some yard work done, eat and exercise more normally and overall, have a little better routine.
Summer is great, but vacation days make you pay when you get back - one way or another!
This morning was like running in a steam room! I had no problem going slowly. Cadence looks a little better, I hope. Went to a Pilates class last night - among other highlights, footwork on the Bosu, which is very challenging for me because of the balance component and Teaser prep and the three variations of that horrible exercise.
I’ve been reading a lot on diet and recently my trainer and I were talking about intermittent fasting, which she has been doing. With her method, she stops eating for the day at 3 pm. I think she’s following the method for health reasons - she’s had some digestive issues and I think is trying to regulate her digestive process. In any event, the Post had this article yesterday which I found interesting.
As a human being who wants to “live life”, I can’t imagine or support any eating schedule that is restrictive enough to not allow regular, healthful eating 7 days a week - I’ll give a pass if it’s for a specific health ailment/concern, but for diet/weight management alone, I can’t buy into it.
Not eating after 3pm means (for me) half my waking time + all sleep time without food. Not only is this a problem for me mentally and physically (having to abstain from food) but in terms of social/family time and concerns, not healthy! No family meals/social time at the end of the day and would likely result in other family members eating less healthy.
Seems to be from my not 100% full read of this article, that there isn’t “much” to support the intermittent schedule by day or time.
Dinner is definitely my smallest meal of the day, but it is still a meal. My cutoff time, if you will, is in the 7 to 8 pm window. That’s the same takeaway I got, abasket - I think it’s better to eat lighter later in the day, but this type of eating is not for me.
