Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

A good article worth posting here:

https://blog.fitbit.com/the-top-7-metabolism-myths-busted

Explains how our bodies burn calories.

Moved S back home. I feel confident I burned plenty of calories! Esp scrubbing his apartment bathroom which I suspect hadn’t been cleaned in ages … Let’s just say he didn’t inherit my neatness gene … Blech!

Great article Bunsen. Lots of good straightforward science based info. I was particularly glad to see the comments about meal skipping, avoiding ultra low calorie diets and losing weight at a slow, methodical pace.

You must have been beside yourself about your niece. Glad to hear things are under control and that she is recovering.

BB, was your niece a smoker?

BB, has your niece been checked for autoimmune problems? Anti- cardiolipin IgG and anti nuclear antibody specifically. If positive, one can have issues with clots. BCP are contraindicated for women with positive antibodies.

BB–good that your niece had your support–that’s tough stuff for young women.

Got the top layer of forehead stitches (other 2 layers have dissolving stitches) removed today. Good news, I don’t look like Frankenstein anymore. I’ll do some walking tomorrow and try yoga on Sunday.

Still be careful Bromfield!!!

Pizzagirl, my niece is 21. Never, ever had a whiff of tobacco smoke. There are tons of under 25 posters in the Reddit forum who never smoked. That is the thing drug companies do not want to raise fuss about: there are people who are not smokers who should never, ever take BC.

For example, a Caucasian of Euro descent has about 10% chance of being V Leiden positive…

So sorry to hear this, BB.

Glad you are on the mend, Bromfield. Hope that you and your niece are also healing, BB.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. CT scan on my lung is Monday, but I have turned a corner and am feeling better. Still got very winded just walking a few blocks for lunch with coworkers yesterday. After I am healed I plan to visit a pulmonologist and see what is going on and how best to get back into running without this happening again.

Taking it easy today, but if I’m up to it I will try a walk tomorrow.

Watching the Olympic commercials last night. So glad that I can add Chicken McNuggets and Coke back into my dietary training regimen!

I also hear that Rio is bottling water for distribution so you can share the Olympic experience when hydrating on your runs.

I had a hard time getting going this morning. 68 degrees and 100 percent humidity just sucks the life out of you! Tenth of a mile short of nine miles but I was done. About a mile in I caught my foot on a curb as I was stepping down but thankfully did not have a pavement sandwich for breakfast. I am tired.

Credit for credit is due - 8.9 or 9 - really, who’s counting?!

First day it doesn’t seem overly humid here in weeks - hoping it stays “that way” till this evening when I plan to run. My day activity involves prepping for a family event at my house tomorrow!

Sabaray, call it a “measurement error”

Good job, sabaray. Limited internet access here in the mountains of western NC. My daughter did well in her 70.3 on a tough course. 6:20. I SO admire the athletes that do these multi-sport events. It’s a real challenge. It was a gorgeous course, but stuff happens… One woman got hit (not badly, fortunately) by a car on the bike course and was brought back in a truck. Her knees were badly scraped and her bike was damaged. I helped her out of the truck and into medical. It was a long day out there, but pretty nice weather. 64 degrees at the start. My daughter chose not to wear a wetsuit, but most of the competitors did since it makes you faster. Water was 77 but they measure in a fishy way to make it wetsuit legal.

I ran 10.3 miles on the run course while they were all biking. I wasn’t in anyone’s way. It climbed for 3 miles then came down for 3 and they did it twice. I was feeling sorry for myself and not wanting to do the run since I was chilly to start (stood around in my singlet for a long time before and during the swim) and the climb was tough. It wasn’t that steep, and it was gorgeous, so I kicked myself in the butt and reminded myself that the triathletes were going to run 13.1 AFTER a swim and hilly bike ride. My husband rode the 56 mile bike course. It was a long day and now we are ready to hit some breweries.

31 miles on the bike. Anniversary dinner tonight. 28 years!

MOfWC, congrats to your daughter. Amazing.

Happy anniversary, ohio!

MOWC - how many tri’s has your daughter done?

This is her second half ironman. She’s done 4 or 5 sprint/Okympic, too.
