BTW- successfully avoided the candy bowl yesterday!!!
Small wins Gertrude!!! (and agree on Laurie’s eyes!!)
Good job, Gertrude! I have not been as successful. 3.1 humid miles this morning.

Phelps still eats like a horse, but he modified his diet to adjust it to the metabolism of his 31 yr old body. No more piles of real junk even for him. Wise decision.
Great article, sabaray. I haven’t been able to watch nearly as much of the Olympics as I would like to. I told H the other day that I am expecting to be retired and able to watch the coverage non-stop during the next summer Olympics.
Something to look forward to.
I think it’s really interesting to read what the athletes eat!
Last night ended up being 6.25 miles and it went better than Monday. Tonight will be a shorter run because I have a hair appointment.
I want to make it clear what a bad influence y’all are! I was practicing “running” up the steps at work today and did manage to do about 5-7 steps at a time. Before I couldn’t do any- it just wasn’t happening. Of course, I had my purse and WSJ, so falling was a very real possibility! It’s a stairwell so no one was watching! I was proud of myself!
I’ve finished the bag of lemon drops, so I am going to make a real effort to cut WAY back on the sugar starting tomorrow.
I can eat hard, sour candy like MOfWC’s lemon drops or really good chocolates. The sugar in all other candy makes me sick.
I did well with lunch today! 2 hard-boiled eggs and 2 baby bell cheeses. And a bowl of cherries! I cannot believe they are still in the stores! Now… The bus is soo late I have no idea what I will make for dinner.
My family is probably eating crap as we speak.
^^Instapot time!!!
Track and field etc. schedule for anyone interested. Marathon is scheduled for Sunday.

Women’s this Sunday. Men’s next Sunday.
Yes! Thanks, MOfWC. That’s what I meant to type, but stupid iphone refreshed the screen. Getting excited to watch the action.
Bunsen, just read about your niece. I have Factor V Leiden (clotting disorder), though I didn’t know about it til a few years ago. Went on BC pills for about six months in college and started having leg cramps. Quit on thhe spot.Have wondered many times what might have happened if I had stayed on them. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 23, and BC was the standard treatment. Yikes! Hope she is doing well. I’m glad someone took her symptoms seriously – PEs are nothing to mess with.
The Olympic event this morning was getting abasket out of bed prior to 6am to get a run in - it was a “do it this morning or don’t do it at all day” with work and a family event taking up the rest of my day. The humidity took the gold - it was just AWFUL just upon walking out the door! 75 and high humidity. I will say that I will take the humidity for running over the bitter cold and wind in the winter. Hot is hot - no matter the temp, I’m going to sweat.
Anyway, 2.5 in the bucket and a walk for the pup (gotta be careful with him too in this heat!) before work.
Last night’s run was not the best, it was just ridiculously humid. It started to drizzle early on which actually felt good, but it stopped and the humidity was so thick. So it was a fairly slow 5 mile run, but I got it done.
abasket, when I took the dog for his walk this morning it was still just as humid. There were a few runners on the trail and I was thinking that I was glad I was not out there with them. Congrats to you for getting your mileage in this morning under these conditions!
I am excited about watching both the womens and mens marathon coverage the next two Sundays!
I’ll admit to looking for neighborhood sprinklers to run through (on the sidewalk) this morning - a tiny bit of relief!!!
@CountingDown, Thanks, she is doing great, knocking on wood. Her pain was gone in less than a week, not even Tylenol was needed at that point. Unfortunately, she now has to monitor her blood coagulation… Thank goodness you stopped the pill before any real damage. Niece too was given the pill for her PCOS - it is a standard treatment today (I checked). Niece inherited PCOS from her mom (my sister) and the other stuff from her dad’s side. Talk about bad luck.
@BunsenBurner, I got the PCOS from my dad’s dide and the Leidne frm my mom’s! There are other meds these days for anticoagulation that don’t require the frequent INR testing. I can’t take those, but my brother is one (PE issues following chemo) and says it isn’t bad. Once my dosage and diet are in sync, I don’t need to get tested very often. If I bruise, I know I’m in my therapeutic range!
Catching up, finally. We’ve had company for the past two days. Last night was a dinner for some of H’s Chinese business associates. Whew-it was a bit stressful but successful. The big hits of the meal seemed to be a Mexican style sticky brown rice and chilied black beans. It’s kind of funny because at one point I thought the successful baked rice dish was going to be a disaster; I was convinced I’d look like a complete moron for making our Shanghai visitors rice. Alas, that was not the case; face saved. My favorite was a pan finished spicy rib-eye with a chimichurri sauce. Good thing I ate a little last night because this morning I had a laser treatment on my problem front tooth, so I’m grounded from running until at least tomorrow and eating anything too sharp and dangerous for another week. DS came home today on the red-eye–I’m looking forward to spending a week with him IF he’s ever be awake during the day.
Olympic watching has been fantastic so far. The equestrian three day event with the challenging cross-country course was thrilling! It’s so awesome to turn on the TV and get a good dose of inspiration from all the athletes!
Workplace function tonight… 10,000 steps and counting.
Well, my take home lesson from watching the Olympics tonight: Phelps is the living proof that if you put clean fuel into an aging engine, it can run quite well.
