Very interesting article Bunsen! provides a great explanation of the mechanism by which artificial sweeteners result in overeating.
I have no idea what that swim cap looking hat was about!
My speculation. Apparently, she has long hair. A ponytail would whip her back pretty hard (says BB who used to run with a waist-long braid when I was younger). I suspect that stretchy hat keeps her hair out of the way (and boy did she pour a bunch of water onto her head!). I would have cut my hair just to lose that extra half a pound of weight - vanity be damned.
MOfWC, check out these awesome looking shoes! So droolworthy. :x

Those are gorgeous shoes! There were a lot of yellow shoes out there!
I watched the marathon. Sigh. How do they do it?
It was warm, but overcast today. I tried a run with walk intervals as needed, outside. I completed 10.5 miles at mollusk pace, but I’m confident I could go the full 13.1 now. But…I looked up the course for the half race I’m planning, only to see the distance is 13.6 miles. Ugh, an extra half mile. Is this common? Or perhaps the map incorporates the “long way”, i.e. outer distance around the curves?
Hope Sabaray is enjoying Vancouver today!
No! It is not common at all! A half marathon is 13.1 and the course should be certified! Are they calling it a half marathon? Courses are measured the shortest way (with the tangents) and you should run all the tangents. The map could be a little off if it is a “map my run” or something like that. See if the course is certified. There is a certain percentage of error allowed with a certified course, but NOT an extra half mile!
Got a lesson today in “you get what you train” which is one of those things dog trainers say to each other… A month of doing slow challenging hilly trail runs and then a fairly flat 5K today. I barely slowed for the slight hills (it was a rolling three-lap course), but I just couldn’t put any leg speed together. I was talking to two people who recognized me from the trail runs and they had the same experience. I guess I need to get over to the track and do some intervals.
@FallGirl – I’ve had pneumonia. Be kind to yourself, it’s a hard recovery. For me, spending time toasting lightly in the summer sun really helped. (The worst case I had, I coughed for months-- until a three-day vacation in Death Valley. In June.)
Beautiful day today. Yesterday afternoon we did some walking in the park, fabulous dinner. This morning was spent by the pool - I know, very lazy but felt great. Retail therapy this afternoon followed by a delicious lunch with local beer. Enjoyed looking at the boats. It’s been a great trip and I’m glad to see Mr. Sabaray so relaxed!
I have to edit to say the exchange has made everything so incredibly inexpensive. The people are super friendly. This is a great destination vacation.
I think yesterday’s race was also long. Evidently it changed from years prior.
Feeling a little inadequate watching the Nike commercial on the 86 year old Iroman.
Yay sabaray. I’m so happy you are enjoying your visit to Vancouver.
Congrats Sabaray -enjoy that post-race feeling & a well-deserved vacation.
I really enjoyed watching the marathon yesterday -I can’t even believe the pace they kept for 26 miles. I was sad to see Amy Cragg drop back so early - I’m not even sure where she finished.
100 degrees forecast for today. Ugh. That’s all I can say about that.
She was 9th! All 3 in the top 10 is incredible!
Oh, that’s awesome!! Guess I quit watching too early!
They didn’t make a very big deal about her finish in the coverage at the time. It had to sink in that all 3 came in in the top 10!
I love, love, love summer. I hate, hate, hate humidity. Unless I’m at the pool or beach.
Who’s ready for some “gentle” fall weather???
Signed up for a local 5k race in a few weeks to help support a local organization I work with. They had a BOGO registration this weekend - S is going to run it with me! - well, he’ll be there and finish several minutes ahead of me and have my cool drink waiting for me.
We had a rainy weekend but that was good for getting some much-needed indoor projects done. I was able to get an 11 mile run in on Saturday morning before the rain came down too hard. Yesterday afternoon the rain let up so we went to the State Fair. It was a fun time and I managed to avoid all the junk food (isn’t that the best part of going to the fair?) except for my annual milkshake from the Dairy Bar. More rain today but I am hoping to be able to run tonight. Our temperatures are way down now, but it is still humid with all the rain.
sabaray - congratulations on your race. It sounds like kind of a miserable experience and very disorganized. There isn’t any excuse for not having water at the finish line! I’m glad that you had fun playing tourist yesterday and it’s great that Mr. sabaray was relaxed and enjoying himself on vacation.
FallGirl - I’m so glad that you are feeling better and that you were able to go to yoga. Yay!
Woo-hoo, abasket!
It sounds like the Lulu half will be ran someplace else (Whistler? Where else are they going to find housing for 15,000
and their families?):
“Speaking of 2017, for next year’s race, we’ll be leaving our headquarters and opening our minds to the magical, sometimes psychedelic world of nature. The 2017 SeaWheeze Half Marathon is going to be one wild ride.”
Wow! I wonder where it will be?
