Well, my 3 month old Garmin 235 has died. It has Ohio’s black screen of death. I removed it from charging and it blinked several times, as if it was resetting, told me there was software to download and then wouldn’t connect. I can’t believe this.
Haha, can’t forget those jail bars!
I spent 45 minutes this afternoon in the basement of our building listening to the blaring tornado sirens. I ended up with a pounding headache from it but I really can’t complain because it was a very destructive tornado that went through town. I work in Kokomo, Indiana. There’s a pretty impressive video of the Starbucks right near our building getting leveled. It was a mess getting out of the city tonight so I got home late and didn’t run, mostly because of the pounding headache.

I should have added that amazingly enough, nobody was injured at the Starbucks. There were numerous injuries in town, but none at the Starbucks. As far as I’ve heard none of the injuries are life-threatening.
C3Baker, your storms (and tornados) JUST are going through our area - just past us now. We just came up from the basement. Fortunately here in the city, no damage that I am aware of. I was hearing that Indy really got hit.
I hope you feel better after some sleep. Scary stuff.
Sabaray, what the heck?! It should still be under warranty, right? That’s ridiculous!
My goodness, C3B - so glad you are okay! I think you should have a glass of wine - or two!
C3B, just now reading about your city and the damage - I’m thankful for your safety! How terribly awful! I’m glad you had a safe place to wait it out.
I saw the footage, C3B. How scary! I’m an IU grad and was getting lots of social media reports from Bloomington, too. Glad you are OK.
Sabaray- call customer support and see if they can walk you through a fix or immediately replace it. Raise he!! And tell them you are an athlete in serious training. Now I’m getting nervous about my 235 which I’ve had since Christmas.
Did better with food today. No candy or sweets at all. Good salads for lunch and dinner. No alcohol.
Hopefully Garmin will credit my credit card when they receive the old watch. Still parnoid though.
Customer support tried to have me go through some routines but the watch was dead city.
Still haven’t received the new watch yet. Nothing was mentioned about color so I’m hoping they send me the black band.
I’m wondering how Garmin and Fitbit account for the high rate of returns that they have on their financials?
Impressive recap, MOWC – many thanks! Now I know for sure I won’t be going back and trying to skim all the posts I’ve missed!
I assume the jail bars are the ones here on CC?
I got the Clifton 3s in turquoise. Color is less important to me than fit, but I do think these are pretty snazzy. (I wasn’t offered a color choice, so the store probably only had the turquoise.) There’s definitely more room in the toe box.
I think you will really like that shoe. I didn’t want to say anything in case you got the 2s, but the 3s are regarded as a huge improvement.
OMG, that tornado!!! So glad there are no fatalities (fingers crossed).
Now I am nervous about my Garmin 235… I have not used it much because of you know the story, but was hoping to someday…
Turquoise shoes sound divine. And Mr will forgive me buying anything as long as it is turquoise (his favorite color).
Well, I am not thrilled with Garmin. We went through all the exercises in futility trying to get it to come back to life to no avail. There are two options: pay in advance for another new device pending return of the old one when credit will be issued or return one and when they receive it they’ll ship a new one out. Their customer support is very pleasant, but they have nothing other than what you can read online. I bit the bullet and am paying for another one and they are waiving overnight shipping charges so I should have it tomorrow. Can’t wait to see my AMEX bill! Happily, the old reliable 210 fired right up. 45 minute run - 15 minute warmup, 20 minute pace, 10 minute cooldown. Relied on my good old Fitbit for HR data!
Yesterday: 4 mile run + ( holes of golf, walking. This morning: 40 mins on Cybex Arc + 1 mile walk. Up next: pup walk + cleaning in anticipation of my father’s visit here at the beach.
Bummer about your Garmin, @sabaray.
Glad you’re safe from tornadoes, @C3Baker.
Sabaray- I’m glad you have a backup. Always a good idea. I know it’s a pain.
Definitely a first world problem but I’m so used to training this way now it’s a big deal when I can’t. We’ll see if they come through! Heat and humidity are definitely back.
Glad you are okay, C3B. Those were nasty storms.
Nice recap, MoWC!
Oh no, Sabaray! I just removed my 235 from my sweaty wrist. Knowing my luck with electronics, mine will be next
I just came back from a 5 mile run/walk done at 3:1 intervals. It’s hot and sunny. My HR was up too high. I wish for cooler weather. Sheesh, the story of each and every day for me it seems. Yesterday I had a kind of grab and go workout day. I got in one mile of running before coming in to avoid lightning and downpours. I took a short bike ride (6 miles). At the end of the day, H and I walked 4.
It looks like we might have a tropical storm coming early next week. Or not. Stress!
That’s a nice collection of exercise Plantmom! ^^^
Sabaray, that’s what LLBean offered me when I needed to replace my Fitbit - either buy another one, ship the old one back and get reimbursed, or send the old one back, when they receive and process it they would send a new one.
Ugh! For all the garmin/Fitbit issues!
3 mile run, now off to the driving range. And 9 holes tonight with my Thursday night group. We are terrible but we have more fun
Sorry to hear about your Garmin, sabaray. I would do the same thing and pay for the new one to get it quickly and wait to be reimbursed when they get the return. I can’t be without my electronics!
I know that many of you have had issues with Fitbits and their Customer Service. Knock on wood, we have not had any real issues. We got the new Fitbit Blaze when it came out a few months ago. H cracked the nice beautiful screen on his. They sent him a replacement. I was surprised, because user damage isn’t generally covered under warranty.
We live 35 miles south of work where the tornadoes went through yesterday. There were other tornadoes in Indiana, but none very close to where we live. Here at work today, about half the employees don’t have power at their homes. Fortunately, our building still has power.
That’s me on Wednesday nights! Nine & dine – or, for some, nine, wine & dine. Lots of laughs and a good time to try the shot you wouldn’t normally try during League play.
