Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Great report Pzzagirl. Glad you enjoyed it. Your experience confirms much of what I had concluded. Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed post.

Conmama, yes, keep doing what you are doing. Without exercise, a female will lose 5% of her muscle weight every year starting at the age 40 or so. As MOfWC and Michael said, it takes much longer for skin to contract with age, so it takes longer for the flaps to disappear than for the fat to “melt.”

Lights off = atmosphere. Enhanced visualization of the imagery of each ride segment. Part of the mind-body experience. Most studios at least dim the lights. I actually prefer lights up so I can see the bike’s display screen and my heart rate monitor without relying on backlighting etc

I am seriously considering buying an Elliptigo to keep me in shape while I am recovering. An indoor elliptical is 100x more boring than treadmill, so that is out of the question.

Bunsen, will the store let you demo it outside for 30 minutes or so before you buy?

Yes, there is a local Precor shop that does demos. I am going to call them to setup a trial ride. I’ve seen a number of folks on these on the trail - awesome tech. I really do not need more than one speed b/c the trail is as flat as they make them.

Bunsen how bout we split an Elliptigo. We keep it at my house and you use it whenever you want!

Oh DO IT, Bunsen! You can be like Meb! I will be SO jealous, although my immediate area would be too hilly. I could do great with it on the path where I usually do my long runs. I have a very speedy young runner friend (male) who has been nursing an achilles injury for a number of months and he got one. He likes it a lot.

I agree with you that elliptical indoors is very boring. I’ve had injuries where it was the only thing I could do, though.

I wanted to test-drive one tonight straight after work, but decided that a maxi dress was not a good attire for riding an elliptibike.

Good Saturday morning everyone! An Elliptigo sounds/looks like fun.

Walked 18 holes yesterday – it was cloudy, rainy (for 2 holes), breezy, sunny, and steamy. Yup, we had it all! BUT, I played my best round of golf ever, so I’m pretty excited.

Woo hoo @CBBBlinker! Very excited for you. I’m playing better these days, had a lesson recently and it helped.

First time running in 10 days. Went to chiro yesterday. My kneecap was driving down into cartilage on those downhills a few weeks back. He did some ART and cupping therapy. Said it was ok to run.

Was at our high school’s first CC meet today. Had my new Garmin on and ran /walked 4 miles running back and forth between points on both the boys and girls 5k varsity races.

Icing now. May do some whirlpool later.

Bunsen, I’m looking forward to your Elliptigo report - I think that would be great for you. Make sure it’s turquoise!

Glad you got your Garmin, Ohio - I think we should have complained more and gotten one of the “luxury” models as a courtesy upgrade. Although I’m not sure how it would hold up in actual training. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/outdoor/annoucnement-fenix-chronos/

Hard time getting going this morning - almost 10 miles but it was almost 70 and 100% humidity with some hills. Tried out the Huma gel - I can say mango is not my favorite flavor. I keep telling myself that I can do this, that I have done it, I will do it again.

Sabaray- sounds like me this morning. I honestly didn’t see how I was going to do my 10 miles. It was 74 and horribly humid and I didn’t get started until 7:30. I was just tired. I half a half marathon in 2 weeks, so it really needed to happen. I considered waiting until tomorrow, but I drove to the trail and decided to just see how I felt. I didn’t look at my splits and tried to keep it easy and as shaded as I could. It was tough. I managed 10.1 at 11:00 pace. It was tough, but it’s done. I was soaked. Went to Jamba Juice and got a mango smoothie. Wore the Hoka Clifton 3s and they did well. Will wear them for the half.

Today’s my first day back after a 24 hour stomach virus that hit me Thursday night. It was vicious but gave me plenty of opportunities to work my abs as I clutched the porcelain throne, lol. 2 1/2 lb water weight loss! Not a recommended way to lose weight!!

Ugh. Not fun, Michael. Glad you are back to the living.

5 slow miles this morning. We had an uncharacteristically cool morning - overcast & foggy. Got good and chilled after the run. Now the sun is out & the temp is heading well into the 90’s.

I ran a 5k race this morning, mainly because it was run in my neighborhood. I had a sharp pain in my leg at the start, which slowed me down for the first 1/2 mile, but I ran through it and felt ok, but my time was really slow! I just checked the course on a map (using mapmyrun) , and it measured out at 5.5K !!

Good buy of the day: Elliptigo Arc. It was $200 off.

OOOOH, Bunsen! I’m excited. When will it arrive at Ohio’s house? Does it fold up to go in the car or can you ride it to your path?
