Since I’m no longer allowed into a bike shop or exercise equipment store unchaperoned, it warms my heart to hear that Bunsen bought an Eliptigo
Enjoy it Bunsen!!
MOfWC, is does fit inside our Lexus van (is there as we speak), and I assume it will similarly fit inside my little Corolla Matrix.
the handlebar shaft comes out. The sales guy at the store said it also fits a rear mounted bike rack.
Poor Michael. Those quickie bugs make you feel so horrible. Hope you’re feeling better tonight. Yes to BB’s Elliptigo! I’d love to see you “going” down the road with your maxi dress on
Clapping for the golfers, CBB and deb. And applause for the runners-C3B, MoWC, sabaray, ohio who are pushing forward through the heat and humidity.
My husband and I walked over 8 miles today, a very long distance for an iced tea in the small town near us. It’s been gross out, sticky hot or storming. No tropical storm though which is a huge relief. I’m hoping to get a long run in tomorrow.
I had to go look up some images of an Elliptigo! Looks pretty cool!
NJres, i hate when race courses are off in their mileage. Was it run by a running club - should be measured out!
Back from a couple of splendid days at the beach on Lake Huron. Banked up some sun/tan to keep me looking summery for a bit (though we might go back next weekend!) I cooked while we were up there so kept food in check. Big splurge was the a waffle cone with one scoop of my favorite Canadian white chocolate raspberry!
Lots of walking and a nice run along the lake but on pavement before the ice cream cone. Was determined to walk to my favorite “point” - a point being a stretch of land that points out a bit when looking at the landscape around the lake. First day couldn’t do it, waves were too high. Second day, I got there! Had to do some wading in the water up to my knees and had ONE “incident” where I slipped on some slippery rocks and had an embarrassing land in the water (but SAVED the FItbit with my arm in the air!) I think I could walk a beach for hours!
What a surprise, come home where it is still terribly hot and humid. Really, I’m over it!
That sounds wonderful, abasket. I, too, love to walk on the beach (or run, if possible). It’s just so relaxing and rejuvenating to be by the water.
I got the New Verrazano sports bra from Oiselle. I am picky about sports bras (aren’t we all…) and don’t need as much support as some, but both my daughter (likes more support) and I love this bra. It is stylish and looks great by itself and under a singlet since the straps are really cute.
4.5 miles this morning and made my 36 mile week, which I did not think I could do since I had the 1 mile travel day on Monday. I plan to cut back on my annual and weekly mileage goals for 2017 because this is too much for me. At least I admit it- that’s the first step, right?
As far as food yesterday- sometimes I use my long run as an excuse to eat badly. I’ll go for donuts or something equally bad. I was better yesterday. Had the smoothie after the run and some decent food at home. My husband and I went for barbecue and I had the turkey (the sauce had sugar, for sure), barbecue beans (sugar) and creamed spinach (god knows what all was in THAT). Small cone of free soft serve ice cream (sugar but a lot of air, too) for dessert. For me, that was a pretty successful Saturday. Oh- small serving of Blue Bell ice cream with some Bailey’s on it for a late “dinner” since the barbecue meal was such a late lunch. That was sort of a Fail, but it sure tasted good.
Did a 5k this morning through my temple. 72 degrees, but super muggy. My H was the volunteer doc on site and my S was a volunteer along the run route. We sponsored the breakfast for the volunteers. Best of all, after it was done, got two different massages from a massage therapist and chiropractor on site :-).
Yay Pizzagirl!
Way to go PG! Had to be pretty hot and humid I imagine (hot and humid is ALL that’s on my mind!) Sounds like a nice “community” run - many people?
Yes, I love to run on the beach too - and sometimes I can - but this year the water is up to high so there isn’t enough spots where it’s just plain packed flat beach - it can be more rocky or deep soft sand that is murderous to run in. I give it my best shot but that is really more of “run a little, walk alot” type run. Still good exercise and the beauty can’t be beat.
36 miles a week seems like a lot for anyone! The BBQ sounds delicious. Just think of where you would be if you ate all that and DIDN’T exercise. Now that’s enough to keep you running!
I am impressed with Oiselle’s marketing. It seems like a good company.
I have read quite a few stories about Gwen Jorgensen. Her husband handles all of the details in her life so she can concentrate on her training. Shopping, cooking, travel, etc. I leave copies of the articles around the house with this information highlighted, but so far my wife isn’t picking up on it. I see where she is going to run her first marathon at the NYC marathon.
Will be interested in Bunsen’s Elliptigo report. I’ve seriously considered one, but worry it might be too wide for roads and more suitable for bike paths? Although the “attention-getting” aspect is appealing. Maybe I could rent it out for rehabbers?!
Knee felt good today but kept it easy with a 25 mile bike ride. Need to take my bike in to the bike shop. First time riding after my wreck. Handle bars need adjusted? Or Maybe front wheel?
Abasket - yes, it is called the High Holiday Hustle. I’m guessing it is in its fifth year. A few years ago, our rabbi got religion (ha!) about keeping fit after she had twins so she began running and honestly this was more her initiative to keep herself motivated. They have also added a 1 mile family stroll and activities for kids (bouncy houses, balloon animals, etc).
^^^What a nice family event - kudos to your family for being so supportive and sponsoring the event. That speaks to your awesomeness!!!
Good job, NJres and Pizzagirl!
Ohio, I will post a detailed review of the Arc later today. We had guests over for dinner last night, and I did not have the time to play with my new toy.
Wow, what great updates from everyone.
I did 4 miles lsd. 2:30 run/:30 walk. Felt really good. Weather was 68, little humidity.
@ohiopublic, my H is a mountain biker and falls occasionally. He seems to always take his bike into the shop for a tune up afterwards. Things always seem to need to be adjusted. That is one of the cons of mountain biking, he always is hitting a branch or something and the bike has to get fixed. So I’m thinking after your wreck that some part is out of kilter.
I am probably in the minority but the Gwen Jorgensen relationship with her husband doing everything for her strikes me as a bit odd. They met and he gave up his livelihood and life to do everything for her. I mean it works for them but I wouldn’t be comfortable with it. She thinks it gave her an advantage and it probably did but I wouldn’t want to give up that much control.
Just under 4 miles this morning, running one of my several similar, but slightly different, routes here at the beach. I can’t really run ON the beach – too much slope and the sand is too loose. But, I went out at 6:00 and it was only 63 degrees – so a nice change from the recent heat & humidity that has kept me on the treadmill at the gym. The Hokas still feel pretty good. Would love to sort out the right hip awkwardness …
Good job, pizzagirl!
Your beach adventures sounds just beautiful, abasket, especially with the cooler air off the water. I love being on the beach. Bliss
Yum to the BBQ, MoWC. I just ordered a bra from Oiselle. Thank you
I did my long run outside this morning: 11.5 miles of run/walk or trot using 3:1 intervals. It was warm when I left-86 degrees, humid, mostly sunny and it got only warmer while I ran the two plus hours. My average pace was a sluggish 12 min/mi but I stopped multiple times for water. At about 6 miles in, I dashed into a small cafe friendly to people coming in from the heat for a cup of ice water. I swear the crowd of people (I suppose, based on their attire were just out of church) parted as the red sea did for Moses to avoid the sweaty me.
Ohio, bike wreck? Did I miss that in a post or am I suffering from middle age CSR? Road bike, mountain bike with suspension? What are the symptoms? Let me know and I can suggest some do it yourself diagnostics and thoughts on what to have your local bike shop look at.
Did a 35 mile ride today in 90 degree heat. First exercise since my stomach virus. Road with my 2 regular Sturdy Girls Training partners and a guy who is all of 5’5", 130 lbs, who rides 250 miles/wk. Other than him, we were a sorry bunch. The Sturdy Girls were at a team party yesterday and drank to excess well into the evening. So they were very hungover and dehydrated. I still have not recovered fully from my 24 hours of no sleep, no food, little fluid intake and 2 1/2 lbs of fluid losses and felt like my 7 hrs of sleep last night didn’t make a dent in my deficits. We spent much of the ride whining to each other about how we felt, one of our more endearing qualities, lol. On top of it, we got totally lost multiple times on the ride since no one had planned a route and we kept winging it. Each one of us was sequentially promoted and then fired as ride leader numerous times as we kept trying to figure out how to get to where we wanted to be and back again. Because nothing was planned out, we ended up climbing 3000 ft in the 35 miles which just made the ride that much more delightful ;). I’m wiped and want to take a nap!!
Take that nap MK!
Plantmom, I applaud you for that many miles in that heat! It seems that the intervals 3:1 seems to work well for you - and apparently Deb too! I need to be better at trying and STICKING with this. I may start it but then I tell myself “oh, you don’t need a break yet, keep going” - and then I tire out quickly!
Plantmom- let me know how you like it. We are good at spending each other’s money here!
Michael- still 90 degrees? Yuck. I hope it cools down for my half in Allentown in 2 weeks.
@MomofWildChild are you doing the Via half? My D has done it twice. She’s annoyed that this year her friends talked her into doing a relay with them. She really likes this race.
She’s training for the Runners World half in October now. The Via is nice and flat, the RWF is not
