I rode on a tandem years ago. I almost thing I’d be more fearful now not being in control (sitting in the back) or nervous about being in control - on the front!!!
There is a couple in our neighborhood that have an old one - they get on it every Friday and Saturday morning and ride around the neighborhood to all the garage sales looking for treasures.
Over 20,000 steps today - not bad considering I had three hours at work where I didn’t even make 250 steps! Three dog walks + cutting our grass for an hour + a short run = apparently 20,000+ steps!
Giant salad for dinner - lots of veggies, some grilled chicken, 1/2 slice of Dave’s Killer bread toasted (an alternative to croutons) and some spicy mango dressing. Hit the spot!
I didn’t learn to ride a bike til I was 20, and H (my boyfriend at the time) taught me when my parents had long given up. So he knows when to ignore my whining
I’m lucky I have a good sized campus to take steps IF I have the time…but some days, there literally isn’t a way to get up and get the steps in (during a meeting or a conference call or whatever). I’m been know to take a walk to use a bathroom much farther away from my office just to get steps in…today I took a walk - about 15 minutes “round trip” to get some good ice for my iced coffee! Whatever works!
Nope, no bike as a kid. My parents tried to teach me, but i resisted and they ultimately gave up. When H and I started dating he thought that was ridiculous and decided to teach me. My parents warned him - you are taking your life in your hands, lol. But he just ignored my complaints and voila! I’m not a confident bike rider though which is why the tandem works out well. I’m skittish on roads and near traffic.
In fairness this is where my fear came from -when I was about 6, a little girl who lived in the apartment below rode her bike, fell and hurt herself pretty badly. Her mother didn’t have a car so she came to my mother and asked her to drive them to the ER - and since I was little I obviously came along. I can still picture her face pretty beat up (she required stitches and probably today would have had plastic surgery) and that’s the root of my fear. I do have a scar on my thigh from a bike fall about 10 years ago, but I fell at the end of my driveway. So really for me the tandem gives me security that I wouldn’t otherwise have and enables me to get the exercise!
(MNK - the incident when I was 6 was in Meadowbrook in Huntingdon Valley - so practically your backyard!)
When I was in college, I spent a summer working on Mackinac island (Michigan) and rode a tandem bike there for the first time. I went with the guy I was dating and we’d often go for a bike ride around the island, which isn’t very big. I preferred having my own bike–I wanted to be in control. Luckily, there weren’t any hills. Going downhill fast without being in control would terrify me. I’m a white-knuckle flyer too.
Three-mile walk today. My trainer is back!!! She went on a four-week trip to Wales; she hadn’t been back home in 6 years. I do so much better working with her. I know it’s lame but when I’m in the gym on my own, my mind goes blank. I’m OK at home following a workout DVD, but I really prefer going to the gym.
“@C3Baker , you must be in amazing shape to run 18 miles one day and then pull, drag and lift canoes for hours the next day!”
Yes, that is a lot of exercise two days in a row.My older son was a rower, and watching them haul those shells around was exhausting, though all we had to do was duck when one started coming at us. 18 mile run, and 30K steps, impressive!
11K steps and a 25 mile bike ride today. Had a salad for dinner to make up for the pastry I had for lunch. But I needed those carbs!
I think I could get used to this early morning running. 5 miles with the fast running group. Brought my headlamp this morning. Forgot that it is dark at 5:30.
Nice review on the arc. Didn’t realize you could go that fast.
One thing I’m really liking about the Alta is that I can interchange the bands. I got some after-market bands (a whole bag of colors) on Amazon and they are good quality and it just takes seconds to switch the band.
Mr. is not getting a new Fitbit yet. He finally got his Garmin Fenix out of the charger - progress! - and set it up. Loves that the watch reminds him of his calendar events.
I have to admit that I was skeptical about them. They might be a tad shorter (I use one button looser on the after-market bands)- or maybe they have an extra “tight” hole. They are awesome. I’ve had no issues with them coming loose, although they do provide “keepers” for the strap. It’s nice to be able to change colors and they are SO cheap!
Wow, those look pretty darn similar to the original look of the band. I added them to my Amazon “wish list” - just placed an Amazon order this morning so have to demonstrate some degree of restraint. Mine is black - which is fine and I chose it - but it might be fun to change it up now and then.
I ran 6 hot and steamy miles last night. Tonight our running club is meeting at the park with the killer hills. So I’ll do 5 one-mile loops of killer hills. It will be good practice for the RAGNAR race that is just a couple weeks away. Afterwards we’re going for pizza and beer. That part will be fun.
