18 holes walking today. Decent round, and I ended up in the money! It was pretty hot, but the humidity is definitely down, and there was a slight breeze.
I saw the news release about the new Fitbits. I’m kind of lusting after the Charge 2, but it’s hard to justify spending the $$$ since my Charge HR works just fine.
Golf is something I’ve never been good at - my father tried to teach me many times and I just don’t have that hand/eye coordination (or whatever is necessary to be a good golfer!). I’m not particularly good at tennis, either …or softball…or volleyball…I guess one could say any sport involving a ball is out!
Busy couple of days but we are due for a BIG break in the humidity which I cannot wait for. Yesterday was a MAF+Intervals run and this morning was my version of speed work - constant cadence. Blech! My least favorite workout so far. Last night I went to a Barre class and tonight a Reformer class.
Tomorrow there are going to be some big announcements about MCM. The Metro track work has really messed things up. There are much stricter time limits for crossing certain points on the course - I am worried with 30,000 runners it could really be an issue for me. Logic tells me to stop worrying until there’s something to worry about, but I am anxious to hear what they have to say tomorrow.
Sabaray, we could be sisters. My eye/hand coordination isn’t great either. Add bowling to the list of difficult activities for those of us so challenged. Hope you get your humidity drop. With all the tropical air swirling around here, there’s no relief in sight.
I ran 3 miles in the morning before the gully washing storms blew through today. Holy buckets of rain. My H and I did get out for a 4 mile stroll in the sprinkles tonight. We spotted (and heard) a young great horned owl, saw a beautiful sunset, didn’t sweat too much.
My Oiselle running bra arrived today. It’s very pretty–midnight blue with a geometric pattern and double aqua straps. Just a warning though. This style, the original verrazano, seems to run a tad small. I’m not at all busty, and a size six is snug. I can’t wait to give it a try in a workout though.
Yes PG - I do my abc’s without fail every day. Used to my a big shin splint guy. Never have them anymore. Try and stay off hard surfaces. I’d stay away from running next 3 days. Nip it.
I got a 6 in the new Verrazano and it’s perfect. I got a medium in a Brooks bra recently and the straps seemed short. It fit terribly. It’s such a gamble!
No golf for me. I’m left handed and H bought me some clubs early in our marriage to try and convert me. I told him that unless there is a pool for me to lounge at every few holes I’m OUT!
PG, I’m going to be glad you have 3 days to relieve some of your pain - hopefully you’ll be feeling improvement by Friday - and more ABC’s when you’re on the plane! (assuming you’re getting on a plane!)
Sabaray, hope the changes are something you can deal with. Is that an October or November race?
I need those short straps on MY sports bras! I swear I have short shoulders or something!!
I have terrible eye/hand coordination so I am lousy at any kind of sports with balls - softball, volleyball, golf. I think that being so bad at those team sports is a lot of the reason I always thought of myself as very unathletic. If I had gotten into running at a young age, or had the opportunity to do the kind of hiking I love, that I would have avoided a lot of the weight issues I had during a good part of my adult life. But maybe not, work and kids really consumed my life during those years.
Last night was just 4 miles of killer hills. It was ungodly hot and humid and the rest of the group had enough so I was happy to bail and head for pizza. It was a fun time out with good running friends.
sabaray - I’m sorry you are stressed about the possible changes to the MCM course. I’m sure you’ll be able to do it, you have been training so faithfully. I understand the anxiety of the uncertainty, though.
Very early morning (i.e. first light) 4 miles outside. It was a bit cooler this morning, which was nice, but the humidity is back. H and I are off to his alma mater in a couple of hours (he’s a trustee) for the ground breaking event for the school’s new Innovation Studio. The summer has been quiet in terms of school events. but once the academic year starts the calendar fills up.
Interesting article on protein and nutrition, high protein vs low protein diets, health related issues and how much protein we need. Just ignore the promotional stuff at the end.
MNK/others. Any perspective on how often one should get a therapeutic massage? (I mean, other than every morning to wake up and every evening before bed, which I could go for!!)
Pizzagirl, I think it really depends on budget, time and how you feel. If I were unconstrained, I would get a message at least once every two weeks and ideally once a week 'cause I beat myself up pretty well with the intensity and volume of my workouts and my muscles and fascia feel it. But I don’t for a variety of reasons. Instead, I’ve become pretty adept with self myofascial message and trigger point message with a roller and message balls. You can really get great results using those tools on your own once you learn the technique.
