I actually don’t like massages. I know I’m in the minority. It’s just not something I love. I get them (the kind that hurt) when I’m injured…
Shin splints better - the abc thing really worked! Thanks!
Hi everyone! I’m back from a 2-week vacation and just went through all 300+ posts on this thread. Won’t respond to anything specific, but it was nice to catch up.
I though we were crazy to go to the Mediterranean in the heat of the summer, but it was actually cooler and less humid there than here. I managed to do 3 runs plus a few hikes and bike rides. And a ton of walking.
Now I’m just dealing with jet lag. And wondering why it’s still so hot this late in August.
Welcome back. Glad you had a good time! We are all just sweating along here!
Come to my neck of the woods! It is raining here - mild drizzle and 65. Nice.
MOfWC, I am not a fan of massages either.
Welcome back @fireandrain! What a wonderful trip!
Yeah, they are saying cooler tomorrow but I’m not sure what is going to happen between now and then to get rid of the humidity!!! No rain in the forecast.
I’ve never had a massage, but I went to a workshop where we learned all about myofascial release using the foam roller and massage balls - I have two of the balls and they are terrific once you figure out where your trigger points are.
All good news for me re: the marathon - start is remaining open for one hour, course is revised so the mandatory checkpoints come much earlier in the race (Gauntlet at 15.5, Bridge at 18 instead of Gauntlet at 17 and Bridge at 21.5) - I am now more confident that I won’t be riding the bus to the finish.
For us the weather doesn’t look like it will be real cool in the morning - it’s moving in later in the day, unfortunately. I was really hoping for some cool weather to run in but looks like upper sixties and humid still tomorrow am.
Welcome back, fireandrain! I’m impressed you went through all of our chitchat. You got some serious steps in!
That’s great news, sabaray! I read the news release, but I couldn’t really figure out what it meant for you as a runner!
Re massage - My daughters and I did a spa day a few months ago that included a one hour massage. That was too much for me! I loved the first 30 minutes, then I was ready to be done.
20 mile bike ride. Fixed crooked handlebars thanks Michael. EZPZ -just loosened the two side allen nuts, straightened and re-tightened.
You can pass all your unwanted massages my way. I’ll take them off your hands. Ha!
My dad (74, good health, active, only issue is a knee replacement) and his lady friend have a masseuse that they hire to cone to their house 1x/week and give them (and any guests - this is a beach house) massages. He keeps telling me I should do this, but that’s awfully expensive! Right now I might do 1-3 a year.
Y’all are making me feel better. I honestly thought I was the only person in the world who didn’t swoon over massages.
Finished up the running month. 161.5 miles. Not easy with this weather.
I love a massage but rarely get them.
I had my first massage 4 years ago. For a birthday present, my H sent me and Ds to the Canyon Ranch spa in the Berkshires (MA). I wasn’t going to get a massage, but my kids persuaded me. I liked it, but didn’t feel the need to do them on a regular basis. I’d rather spend the money on a pedicure or a facial.
Short walk today–2.5 mi. on the beach.
There’s spa massages and then there’s sports massage. Sports massage isn’t fun and doesn’t have those rock thingys and cucumbers!
Checking back in! Thank you to all who helped guide me with my back problems. Timing wise, going to the doctor didn’t work out so I didn’t have it looked at, unfortunately. The pain subsided after a month. I made sure to not sit cross-legged, stay sitting upright or lying flat on the bed, and did away with hunching over things for long periods of time. I’m most
School is back in session so I’ve resumed lifting and haven’t had any problems with my back. A personal achievement I am proud of is I was able to PR this past Monday not even a week into starting to lift again and three months off. I’m proud of my body for being able to get back into the swing of things. With working out more, I’ve been stretching more and I think I’m tiring out my hip joints, if that makes sense. My task is to find stretches that provide a deeper stretch than what I’m getting without that sore feeling in my joints. And the achievement I’m most proud of is I do sprint intervals weekly and I no longer detest running! (Still not ever, ever, ever doing a 5K again.)
I once got a massage and spent the entire hour fighting the urge to squirm. Too tickley for massages.
Welcome back fireandrain! I’m glad you had a good time, and I’m especially happy to hear it was not too unbearable hot. I’m headed that direction tomorrow, if we don’t get trapped in tropical rain.
I walked over 5 miles today. Now, getting packed!
Guys, it’s TRUE! The humidity went away tonight!!! I went outside about 6pm and could feel the change coming in the air. The change - IT CAME! Haha - Actually have a few windows open just to hear outside! Took my dog for a walk and was cool as a cucumber in shorts and a tshirt. YES.
You lucky thing! Ours is supposed to break later tomorrow.
