I did get that email. I’m going to pass. I really like my bag of colored bands, though.
fireandrain- Geez! Not much good luck for YOU! That’s pretty odd to put that sign up. I hope you are preparing one of your own!

I like that gold band - but…$129 is almost the cost of the dang Alta!
That gold band is cute!
I got an email advertising the new Charge HR.
I guess they are targeting the current owners, maybe they would be willing to upgrade the already owned devices.
DH and I spent the weekend in San Diego seeing our son and being tourists too. I am all too proud of myself for taking my running shoes and clothes with me and actually running two times, once along the harbor, very early in the morning, which was nice but lots of concrete, which I find hard on my knees. The other time was late afternoon before I had to chance to run so I ran on the hotel’s treadmill. The treadmill said 2.25 miles and my Garmin, going by its count of my steps, said 1.9 miles. I have no idea which is right, but either way I did a twenty-plus mile week for the first time since I started running again almost four years ago. (In my twenties, I ran 60-70 miles weeks. Can’t do that now. At least not yet. At current rate of improvement, I’ll be 64 when I hit that distance, if ever.)
My Garmin 235 seems to consistently measure about 7% short when I run on trails, which I’ve been told is normal because of the poor GPS signal when you’re in the trees. It seems okay when I run on the track (no trees). What have you all noticed?
(I just heard from Fitbit that my new Flex 2 has shipped.) (Yay.)
Golfed 18 holes today. We went to a resort about 50 miles from our house. The bad news is that it was 50 degrees with a 40 mph wind. At least the rain showers held off until we were done. Yesterday it was sunny and 70 lol!
Anyways, I have to brag. Shot 105 and had 3 chip ins. That was crazy. Only other golfers will understand how rare that was. And I played with 3 men and I was not the one holding play up. ;). It’s easy when you hit it in the fairway Lol!
Eating was terrible. Hot dogs, French fries and pizza. Seriously terrible.
I have no idea about that score Deb, but I’ll cheer for you anyway! Is your menu for the day another indication that you were hanging out with guys?!!
Wow, 60-70 mile weeks? Did you do anything besides eat, sleep and run?!
Thought it was me! but I kind of noticed my mileage pace was off on trails with my 235?
Ran for the first time Saturday (4 x 1 mile on the treadmill) since over 2 weeks ago. First mile was rough. Had to wear off the rust but then loosened up . Easy 2 yesterday and 3 (7:30) treadmill miles tonight.
@abasket – I had a full-time job, too. I ate, slept, ran, and my entire social and emotional life centered around running. At the time, I was running away from my problems. I was mid-twenties and unhappy. I got up and ran before work, walked to work, worked, walked home, ran alone or with friends or with my track club. However, since at the time I ran sub-8s when training, my 60-mile weeks only took up about ten hours/week. Then I found a better job working with some very interesting people (one of whom I married), and I gradually quit running so much. These days I run about five hours/week, swim another hour/week, take long bike rides from time to time, and often spend entire weekends at dog events–but I no longer have a full-time job.
Way to go, deb!
We used to think 60 miles a week was low. We regularly ran 70- 80s and I hit 100 once! Of course, we were faster so it didn’t take as long! dmd- I can tell you that at 64 I can barely make my 35 or so miles a week. We used to do 12 miles before work when I was in my late 20s and 30s. Now I aspire to be sabaray and do 5 or more, but it is usually 3 or 4. You lose a lot with age, unfortunately. High mileage used to be a lot more of a thing- long, slow distance. Now there is a little more emphasis on quality (not that I do that, either) even for the elites. High mileage has a big risk of injury.
@MomofWildChild – don’t worry, I’m not really hoping to get to 60 mile weeks. More likely I’ll settle around 30 miles/week, since I have no desire to run marathons, but I do want to be able to do some of the longer trail runs (still contemplating a 15-mile one next May), which would be a weekly long run of 10-12 miles. I’m extremely careful about injury, I’m only increasing at about half a mile/week, if that–two weeks of increase, one week of lower, etc. I learned my lessons on injuries when I had a stress fracture way back when–I avoid concrete if I can, run trails, increase mileage slowly…
Oh, I get it, @deb922! My best was a couple of weeks ago when I shot a 101. I’ve also had a round when I got par on 3 holes. I’ve only managed 2 chip-ins all season, though – and they weren’t in the same round. Kudos to you!!
Only a pup walk today – felt a little washed out all day. Supposed to play golf with the Ladies League tomorrow, but it’s looking like we’ll get rained out.
Yes dmd77 – that is awesome mileage! What shoes do you like? I’ve been using Asics but always interested to hear about other brands.
Aargh - it’s in triple digits here and the hot winds are blowing. This is when we tend to get wildfires but so far so good. Planning 3 miles on the treadmill at work later today.
Three is all I had in me this morning - 64 degrees but humid, definitely some fog. Briefly thought about giving myself a break with the elliptical but slogged it out. This weekend is my longest run of the training cycle - 4 hours of varying intensity running. Should be good weather by the weekend - we have thunderstorms rolling through for the next few days.
Kudos to you Sabaray - about the only thing I can think about getting through 4 hours of is walking on the beach!
I’ll be thinking about you, sabaray. It will be a huge confidence booster! Time on your feet!
I can stop b**ching about the weather. 54 degrees and dry this morning. I got a late start because my youngest cat got stuck up in the ceiling and we had to retrieve him. We heard all this meowing and looked everywhere and finally went downstairs. H is putting in a wood stove (heating) in the basement and there is a hole for it in the ceiling between the basement and main floor. Hawi was up there afraid to get down. My houseguest couldn’t get him and put an ironing board on the ladder up into the ceiling in case he was willing to climb down it, but it didn’t work.
It is almost a year since we learned about iDad no longer being with us. I still think of him all the time.
That sounds a lot better, abasket! It’s going to be my decision point - the physical toll has been tough. I’ve been working at this for a long time, but we will see how it goes. I may need to drive to a better route for this one. The hills really present some unique challenges.
Hard to believe it’s been a year. I’m glad we’re all still here.
A few days ago, about 10 miles into my ride, my left knee “popped” several times. It hurt when it would pop, but then it would die down until the next one, every few minutes. The sensation was that it was popping at the front part of the kneecap. I had circled back around to my car at about 12 miles, so I stopped the ride. No problem at all bearing weight, no noticeable swelling.
Now I’m noticing tenderness at the inner aspect of my knee. Feels like a tendon is “bruised,” and walking around I feel discomfort, yet not agonizing pain. My bedroom is upstairs, and I notice a little tenderness when going upstairs.
I’m wondering if I have a slight MCL sprain. Looking it up, it says a grade 1 just requires rest, ice, NSAIDs. I’m fairly bummed, because bike riding is the only exercise I LOVE to do. And isn’t bike riding usually the TREATMENT for knee injuries?!
So I guess my question is would you treat at home for this, avoid the bike until the pain is gone, or would you start the doctor-MRI chain of events?
I went ahead and made an appointment with a doctor. I can’t get in until Monday, so not sure how helpful this will be, but I figured if I wait and don’t feel better, I’ll just end up in his office eventually anyway.
I would go to the doctor and get checked out and then go to PT for a few weeks. You want to make sure you don’t have a tear and get a handle on good remedial exercises to do. Along the way, get your bike to a bike shop and make sure that your seat height, set back, reach of the bars and cleat adjustment (if you are riding clipless pedals) are all set right for you. Proper bike fit is key to avoiding these kinds of injuries.
