Congrats to your son, Michael! Yes, yikes to grappling! When I was younger I took a grappling class. It was incredibly difficult AND unbelievable intimate. My muscles ached for days after each session.

The wedding sounds like fun, CBB (except for the ear pain).

Yay Gertrude on the 7! And kudos as always to MoWC on a nice mileage week. Looking up the aquaphor, Sabaray. I only run with the Balega socks now, which seems to alleviate the top toe blisters, but not the sides.

I walked maybe 6 miles today. Strained the back lifting a bag of dirt. It’s an Advil and hot bath kind of evening.

Ouch on that back, PlanMom. RICE and maybe a glass of your favorite beverage.

Raked leaves and spread some bark in the front yard. The rest of the day was spent walking around some new townhome developments to acclimate Mr. B to the idea that we need to start looking at empty nest options. Found out that Mr. is allergic to vessel sinks, and I am allergic to “country charm.”

D2 signed up for a 15k in January. She currently runs 3-4 miles five times a week. She would like a recommendation for training program/suggestion to help her prepare. I think it could be helpful to know how much to run each day/week, how to pace her runs, and other types of guidance and structure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Very windy day here yesterday - took the pups to the park, enjoyed a milkshake out in the sun. Lots of trees and branches down.

Very slow three miles this morning. I picked up a pair of Adrenalines yesterday and used those for my run this morning. I’m really starting to think this may not happen - I just don’t know if my ankle is going to cooperate.

@peacefulmom, Hal Higdon offers some free online training plans in different levels - novice, intermediate and advanced. Your daughter might find them helpful in structuring her training.

Take care of that ankle, sabaray. But I know you can do it!

@peacefulmom We can offer lots of advice. At what pace is your daughter training now for the 3-4 mile runs? One thing she should do is up one of the runs to a longer run once a week. Make it 5, then 6, then 7 and keep the other runs. Also, maybe add a little faster running- some 30 second surges or pickups in the shorter runs. If the course will be hilly, she should add hills.

sabaray- NOOOOO on the ankle! Did the Adrenalines help? Are you icing and Advil-ing?

The ankle has been bothering me for several weeks now, more noticeably now after a week of shorter intense runs. The problem is that little arthritic bone hook I have right on the talus - am having a really difficult time bending the ankle and pushing off that foot, so my form is really wonky. I am taking a loading dose of Advil, am using a micro-bead ice pack, you name it - I am really trying to work through it. The Adrenalines were better than the Transcends. At this point I’m thinking of cutting back on the running and sub in elliptical and see if I can just get through the race, using intervals if I have to. I sound like such a whiny wimp.

Sabaray, you are so NOT a whiny wimp. Just taking care of yourself.

You aren’t a whiny wimp! Injuries are something to take seriously. That sounds like a good plan- use the elliptical or borrow Bunsen’s Elliptigo. I bet you can get through the race with run/walk. I want you to cross that finish line- time is irrelevant!

Sabaray, it is time to give the ankle some rest. You should be in a tapering mode anyway, so go easy on yourself. Elliptical sounds like a good idea…have you tried an ankle brace? Taking care of an injury is smart and not wimpy.

peacefulmom, another vote for Hal Higdon’s training plans.

Great advice on Hal Higdon’s guides. @peacefulmom, here is another half training guide that can be modified to accommodate a shorter run (did you say a 15k?).

http://www.marathonrookie.com/half-marathon-training.html

The good thing about a 15k is that there is no need to worry about gels and other nutrition-on-the-run things. The body is usually able to store enough fuel to get it through 9.5 miles with the right training.

@peacefulmom – she also might find some good tips online at runnersworld. I have found their articles helpful.

@sabaray – take it easy! Hope you heal and can run a pain-free race. I don’t post often on this thread but you and others have been such an inspiration.

Posting here (not on plantar fasciitis thread) to ask what runners found is best – bottom of foot (where arch meets pad of my foot) started to really hurt about 2/3 through long run on Saturday – sharp shooting pain. Going to try the frozen water bottle and stick tonight. I’m wearing Asics Gel Kayanos (which are fairly new) so I don’t think it’s the shoe. Any one have any tips on decreasing the pain/recovering? thanks in advance

Hokas have fixed PF in a number of runners I know, including my husband. I know your shoes are pretty new, but I really think Hokas are uniquely good for PF. The water bottle and stick help, too. And the sock-thingy.

Thanks MOWC! I was not familiar with Hokas – I’ll check them out. And what’s the sock-thingy?

I think MOfWC meant this “sock thingy”:

Can’t be called a wimp if you’re hurt. Only your coach can call you a wimp!

Healing wishes for your ankle, Sabaray. Nobody could think of you as a wimp! You’re one of the most dedicated exercisers on this forum. Your race is at the end of the month, right?

I set out to run 10 miles this morning, but after picking up somebody’s drivers license on the ground and running back to their house to drop it off, I ended up aiming for 13.1 miles. Done. I picked up my pace which is still slow compared to many distance runners here and everywhere, but I did it in a 10 plus (not quite plus 10) minutes per mile. For me that’s kind of like being a whelk mollusk (http://www.molluscs.at/gastropoda/index.html?/gastropoda/morphology/locomotion.html) Yesterday’s back soreness worked its way out. Hopefully my shins, ankles, legs, etc. will not complain too loudly tomorrow. I’m a month away from my half marathon. To tell the truth, I can’t wait for it to be over so I can go back to a better rounded fitness routine. The weather was beautiful this morning with 64 degrees, a light breeze, and a blue sky.

Great run, Plantmom! There’s your half marathon! I train well over 10:00 pace!

There you go, PlantMom! Kudos on running the Good Deed Half.
