Niquii- look at Athleta, too. They tend to have a good range of sizes and good quality, too.
Lucy.com has 50% off markdowns right now, making items up to 70% off. I have a few of their leggings and have never had a problem. They are workhorses for me.
And today is Kona Ironman World Championships, which always gives me pause. I have some of the best memories of my life watching my son finish in 2013, and some of the worst from 2014 when we were there supporting his then girlfriend. I still have PTSD (seriously) from 2014, but each year I am able to savor the event, follow my friends and the pros, and put the bad memories behind. It is such an incredible athletic event.
How can we forget, MOfWC! Hope the memories of that 2014 nightmare will fade completely with time.
I agree - Kona is an incredible event!
On feet: at the recommendation of an IRL running friend, I’ve been using a foot cream for diabetics (which I am not) on my feet before I put my socks on every day. All those cracked calluses are gradually healing and my feet are getting nice and soft. I thought I liked having nice hard calluses, but when one separated from the skin underneath, the foot cream suggestion was made and I thought I’d try it. No problems since then (about six weeks now). I use the foot cream application to kind of check over my feet and do a small massage too.
Athleta has regular sales. I find their different shorts/leggings/etc. all fit very differently from each other. I prefer their shorts for daily use because they have pockets. Lululemon will sometimes give a discount if you ask for one (I asked for one as a “new customer” and got one). I do NOT think their clothing runs true to size. I wear a 10 in the Align Crops–and an 14 in a Speedo bathing suit (Speedo is my definition of non-vanity sizing). I also wear a 4 or 6 in the tanks.
Oh, now I’m started on sizing. In my athletic clothing, I have bike shorts in sizes L and XL. I have tri shorts (Zoot) in XL. I have skorts in L (Skirt Sports) and M (Sparkle Skirts). I have running shorts and tights in XXS, XS, S, M, and L, some of them from the same manufacturers (Lucy is especially bad at this–I have pants in M and XXS from them). I have tops in sizes from XXS (Athleta and Patagonia) to L (cycling ones). The vast majority of my clothing has been taken in several inches at the waist, including the Icebreaker tights (medium) that I’m wearing right now with a Lululemon tank (size 4) under a sweater from JCrew (medium). I have to fit my thighs and derriere, then take the waist in, for most clothes. I also add pockets to a lot of my clothes.
I did know that Lulemon’s largest size was a 12- I think that’s kind of awful if it’s true!
I flew today with my 19 year old daughter. Both of us were wearing favorite Athleta Capri leggings - they are by far my favorites.
About 9 miles of walking today here in DC. I’m always in awe here. It was a long early day - had to leave the house at 3:30am ! A two meal day but dinner included a peanut butter bacon burger with homemade tomato jam. Odd, but it really worked! Now I need to “work” it off!!!
Nice idea with the foot cream, dmd. The podiatrist gave me a bottle of lotion with antiseptic properties to apply to the toes each night. I will try anything to fend off the blisters and irritated skin, even having half-sized toenails.
Glad to hear you’re safe too, Niquii. Hearing people brag about how wimpy these storms are, when in fact, said people were just lucky, is irritating, not to mention being an indication of how dumb they can be about the weather. Friends of ours in St. Augustine were breathing a sigh of relief today that they hadn’t sustained any damage on their new place. The surge water was pretty bad.
I ran this morning for 5.5 miles. It was a sticky 80 degrees when I got out. Good news in the forecast though: a low of 64 degrees for Monday. Yay!
LuLu sizes aren’t like regular sizes. I wear a 6 usually and sometimes a 4. 4 is extra small. 6 is small. 12 would be bigger than a regular clothes 12 by a lot. I am. 2 in regular clothes like Vanana or JCrew and 4 in blazers.
Nothing much on the exercise front today, although I did go to 2 exercise equipment stores to look at and try out some power cages. Gave my old cage to my son a couple of years ago when I picked up a combination Smith Machine, Cross over Pulley, lifting cage unit. Two years later, I’ve concluded I need a dedicated cage to give me more room in the cage for squats and benches. The Smith bar rails take up too much working space and if I ever drop my Olympic bar in the cage, it will hit and damage the rails.
My son had a constructive day of jiu jitsu though. Took 1st place in his division at the North American Grappling Association national competition held in Philadelphia. Major competition. He just continues to amaze me with his focused nutritional, lifting and training program. He just recently had his body composition analyzed using ultrasound technology. 8 1/2% body fat on a 155 lb 5’9" frame. Yeesh, only the young (32)!
Wow Muchael. Is that shopping activity somehow related to prepping for your D’s wedding?
I better do some quick prep Bunsen, the wedding is next Saturday!
I thought the cages you were looking at were intended as a part of the reception hall décor.
Yes, we are going to use it for the Chupah!
Michael, has your wife ordered you to the sidelines so you don’t injure yourself prior to the big day?
For long runs, I’ve been applying aquaphor to my toes to avoid blistering/cracking - Balega socks - no interior threads - use a “foot peel” (Patchology) semi-regularly to avoid build up of callus - use a lotion at night that reduces dead skin cells - you name it, I’m doing it. Am hoping two consecutive rest days will help it heal because it’s painful!
I have clothing from Athleta but prefer Lulu by far - my Athleta leggings have not worn well, lot of pilling.
Michael- your son sounds incredible! Yes- do NOTget hurt this week!
My wife hasn’t but my daughter has ordered me unequivocally that I cannot work out day of but I think she’s more concerned about me being late than about me getting hurt. She and my wife are staying overnight on Friday at a hotel a block from the venue so they can get an early start to their day of routine. I don’t have to be there to get dressed and for pictures until 12 pm and my daughter doesn’t trust me to be on time
.
MOWC, when someone posted a picture of him on the podium on FaceBook and I posted congratulatory remarks, he quipped that he owes it all to me taking him out for Halloween dressed in a karate GI when he was a little boy. He’s already bought his 7 month old daughter a jiu jitsu GI that she will grow into when she’s, oh, about 4. He claims that a company that makes his favorite but very expensive high end gi’s was having a monster sale and that he was just being fiscally responsible. ;).
I normally wear a size 6-8, but have to size up to a 10 for tops at Lulu. I’m a small at Athleta. My Lucy yoga capris are a medium which fit when I bought them but are now kind of baggy. My legs have gotten slimmer with the running.
Had to work yesterday, so only got a yoga class in. Hope to get out today for a long walk.
The long sleeved Lulu tops have VERY narrow and long arms. I think I posted a few years ago that one of my running friends who wears Lulu says it is designed for rich giraffes!
4 sunny and breezy miles done! Tired legs but 37 mile week in the books.
Got 7 miles in yesterday. Another hot weekend here - into the mid-90s. A good friend is running the Portland Marathon today in a steady rain - ack, sounds so miserable!
Guess I must have been on one of my hiatuses from this thread 2 years ago since I don’t recall “the nightmare” …
Our good friends’ daughter’s wedding was yesterday. Quite a lot of fun, but the live band was SOOOOO loud!! H’s ear actually hurt last night when we left. D & fiance (wedding in just under 1 year) have had a lengthy discussion with their DJ about the volume of the music. Anyway, the wedding was a little over an hour from us, but we decided to stay overnight rather than drive back that late at night. We were at a wonderful little B&B and had planned to spend today walking around several of the charming CT River towns in the area. However, it’s pouring rain, so we just came home instead. We’ll be watching the Patriots instead. ![]()
PS I got lots of steps on the dance floor last night …
