You will do better on race day! It’s a race! You are doing great.
I was really tired this morning. I struggle at this time of year until the time changes and it’s brighter when I wake up. I managed 2.7 miles and will do some more on the dreadmill tonight.
Whew Plantmom, I thought I was going to have to “block” you because you were getting to be too fast to be in my “friend” group. No explanation needed - if you run, you run!!!
Yoga continues. Also worked out with my trainer. Real challenge is upcoming travel tomorrow through next
Monday (flying to Chicago and driving to Wisconsin for a wedding). I have found some YouTube yoga videos that I can use.
Sending healing mojo to Sabaray. PlantMom and Deb–hope you both feel better soon. C3–good luck with your marathon. BB–how is your injury? Can you run yet?
Thanks for asking, Bromfield. I am not up to running yet. The docs are still trying to figure out what is going on. The bones look ok, so there is a strong suspicion that there is something inside that is pressing on the SI joint moving it out of alignment. We’ll see. The big problem is that it is so tough to get any appointments coordinated with my work and class schedule, so the progress is slow.
Meanwhile, I keep doing what I can do without too much pain - weights and elliptical.
I just managed to hit 10K steps by pacing in my hotel room. I spent 6.5 hours in the car this morning, then spent the day and evening in meetings. I hate days like this! Tomorrow will be another 6.5 hours in the car but I should be able to get home early enough to get some exercise in.
BB - sorry to hear that the progress is slow. You do have a lot going on with work and school. I checked with D and we have appointments at 4 bridal stores, but Luly Yang isn’t on the schedule. I checked their website - gorgeous dresses but most are out of her price range. I’m sure we’ll find the perfect dress somewhere! It sounds as if I’m coming in for quite the storm this weekend, the forecast sounds very dire! Hopefully my flights won’t be impacted and that D doesn’t lose power over the weekend.
MOWC - I was really noticing this morning just how dark it is and how long it takes until the sun comes up. I hate when daylight savings time ends because then we have no evening at all, but I can sure see how it would be tough to run in the morning this time of the year.
Thank you everyone for your good wishes about my daughter’s upcoming wedding. It’s been a looong time coming. She met her fiancé when she started working at an entertainment company at age 15. He was 20. They started dating when she turned 18. His restraint until then may have had something to do with me letting the owner know that my role model for being the daddy of a daughter was the father in the movie Clueless (father to prospective date:“I have a 45 and a shovel and no one’s going to miss you”), :D. Went with her for the final fitting of her gown. It fits like it was sewn onto her. But as we were talking about it, what we focused on was how the off the shoulder sleeves and deep V back accentuated her traps and scapular muscles, lol.
Picking up on the discusion about progression in training for longer distance races, while there are others who have more experience and knowledge of specific published programs, I can offer this suggestion. It’s often recommended that increases in load for endurance athletes be limited to 10% per week. Load is comprised of both intensity and duration. So if you want to increase intensity, increase the duration or frequency of high intensity intervals to 10% more from week to week. If you want to increase mileage, same deal, 10% increases from week to week.
I wish I could increase mileage or intensity by 10% a week! I find I can only increase by about 2% a week, and every fourth or fifth week, I have to go down somebto recover before I increase again.
3.7 mile walk just after sunrise. Will do a pup walk later. I’m running less lately, still trying to sort out the awkward gait issue with my hip – or wherever the problem is. No pain, just an UNsmooth gait.
Job interview this morning, then I look forward to a de-compressing run this afternoon. Our weather has finally “turned” & it’s pleasant out in the afternoons instead of beastly hot.
I find myself dealing with physical stress symptoms due to “current events”. This whole thing is really bothering me. Hopefully I’ll feel much better in a few weeks.
Gertrude, please take care of yourself. Stress can bring on some nasty physical consequences. I recommend monitoring your blood pressure and taking some time for yourself. Don’t do what I did several years ago when I stressed to the point of my doc suspecting that I had some sort of a cardio deficiency - don’t stop exercising. Good luck with your interview!
Thanks both - I’m feeling good about the job search. I just have to work through the process & jump through the hoops. But all this other stuff - the news and the constant ugliness - it’s getting me down. I probably should stop watching, but the fact is, I’m too invested & that’s not going to happen. So yes, I should up my exercise regimen for about 3 weeks!!
I’m pretty excited that Bob Dylan got a Nobel Prize though - how cool is that?
I can relate to the election stress, Gertrude - I actually went through my FB to filter out some of the worst offenders. I just don’t know how people can be so stupid! The constant election barrage (from both sides) is stressful. I’ve been looking at a lot of “comfort dog” pages to relieve my anxiety!
I had to go look at the gowns Bunsen suggested - those are gorgeous! Sadly I think D will want a lower key event than what I would like to host. I will need to remind myself when the time comes that it’s her day! (Well, and his too.) I know the wedding weekend will be beautiful, Michael - congratulations!
I did run Wednesday and Thursday, went okay. Put heel cups in my regular street shoes and that has also helped with discomfort. I’ve done a 20, this weekend will be 12 to 15, then taper.
Gertrude- job hunting is not fun, but you will come out great! I agree that the whole news thing and social media is really difficult right now. I need to step back…
For you LuLu fans- I just got an email with a link to their “We Made Too Much” part of the website and there is a ton of stuff listed right now- some good deals (well, relatively). I didn’t check size availability.
