We belong to Lifetime here in MN. We are original Founders Members so it is very cheap for us. We used to be able to sell our memberships but they took that away. We had a family membership originally but the girls aged out. We pay $40 a month and it is a bargain!
Rain, rain, rain. I got home from work pretty late last night and couldn’t muster the enthusiasm to either run or walk. I was at 17K steps for the day already so no worries about getting steps in. More rain today - I am being accused of bringing Seattle back with me. So we’ll be running the 5K tonight in the rain, but that’s OK. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to slide out of work early to be able to get downtown in time. The race starts an hour earlier than the rest of the series did because it is getting dark so much earlier now.
I’m really glad H is also into running, it makes it fun to do the races. The downside is when somebody has a bad run at the same race the other has a PR! But overall, it has been fun doing this together.
abasket - I hope that retirement brings a new and different purpose to your H’s days and that it helps him get back on the bandwagon of weightloss. If he has a plan of what he wants to do with his time and goals he wants to accomplish then it can be a very rewarding time of life.
NM - Wow, $40 for your monthly membership is a fantastic deal!
New Fitbit on my arm! Life is Good!!!
19k steps today walking in London!
@abasket – yay for a new Fitbit! There should be a Hallmark card “so sorry on the loss of your Fitbit”.
@FallGirl – way to go! I love walking around London. As long as I don’t step off the curb into traffic (can’t get the driving on the left thing down).
Yay to new Fitbit! I forgot mine upstairs this morning. Mr. B brought it down and asked if I felt naked without a very important piece of my wardrobe. LOL.
^^ God, Bunsen! That means you walked down the stairs without recording steps!
So far I have all my 250 step hours, despite a bunch of meetings. I managed to escape them before the full hour was up.
I know! I froze in place with a spatula in one hand and a plate in the other and made Mr. run up and down the stairs with my Fitbit a couple of times to collect the steps that I missed while I did not have it on! Thank goodness the eggs did not overcook while he was doing it.
Got all my step hours today too, but will fail tomorrow when I have to drive to a meeting 2.5 hours away - and back! Maybe a jog around the turnpike rest stops?!
Core/strength training 30 minute class today. Haven’t done squats in a while so expecting some some spots tomorrow!
A lovely 4 miles today walking around a park with trails around a lake. The leaves were just beautiful! Just what I needed after attending a funeral.
It was 91 here yesterday- which was a record and ridiculous! Today we had a front with some rain and the temperature is plummeting and will be in the low 40s Saturday morning. This has been nuts! My really cool new Oiselle puff vest is sitting in the closet laughing at the temperatures.
We have a cold front of 80 degrees this weekend.
It’s been pretty “cool” this week with highs around 88 degrees. In the mornings it’s like 76 and one morning is was 69! Fall is upon the sunshine state!
@NorthMinnesota I love your fall avatar picture - and that you’ve been posting more here!
Absolutely no exercise today. Had to go out of town for a doctor’s appointment and then out to dinner with our old neighbor’s. Had a lovely time but really needed to get out and not sit so much.
I’ve been looking for a vest, I keep buying ones and either returning or not liking. Finally broke down and ordered the fluffed up vest from lulu. WMTM. Dang thing is perfect. Long enough, light enough. Of course the only color is a bright pink, not my favorite but at least the hunters will see me.
The Lulu vests and jackets are great!
I am shocked… I have not been doing much exercise-wise, and I still have not gained any weight!
Which Oiselle vest did you get, MOfWC?
I got Katron in red.
Bunsen- You are so good about your food! I know you are ready to exercise more, but great job on no weight gain!
Thanks abasket. I know my postings are erratic! depends on what is happening in my life. I tend to post more when I need motivation. You are all inspirational to me and keep me moving when I battle bad knee, achilles tendonitis and plain laziness!
I know many of you use fitbits, garmins or similar devices, and some of you are very fond of them . I can’t decide If should get one. Is it mostly motivation people get them for, and to know how many steps they walk a day? I hear they are not very accurate, but I guess people don’t care - it’s “close enough?” I am a fairly active person, and walk a fair amount, but I am not a runner. If I do get one, any advice? Smaller is better for me. If you think I should start a separate thread, let me know. Thanks in advance.
Fine topic for this thread! I use a Garmin GPS watch for running, which is quite accurate and records my distance, course, time, pace, heart rate etc. I couldn’t live without it. It is probably overkill for what you are needing/wanting.
I wear a FitBit Alta all day- even when I run. This records my steps (with a much lesser degree of accuracy). It reminds me to get up and move every hour and wants me to have 250 steps per hour and I get a light up dot on my iPhone app for every hour that happens. I DON’T have a FitBit with heart rate. I don’t need that and I don’t feel that they are accurate, but others like that feature. Some FitBits track stairs climbed. My current one does not and I miss that a little. I like the Alta because I can easily change bands to different colors, it is relatively small and is comfortable. It also feels more secure on my wrist that some of the other models. I sit in meetings or at a desk a lot of the day, and I like that the FitBit reminds me to get up and walk around or walk to someone’s office instead of emailing or calling. As I noted above, I treat it as more of a toy or game- but it definitely has benefits in my opinion.
