Many kudos to WC - what challenges he puts on his plate - and yours! The swim/run event next for him sounds “interesting”.
Just a gorgeous day here. I’ll top out around 22-23k steps between pup walks, cutting the grass. Some yard work and a 3 mile
Run. The week ahead looks a little gloomy especially after Tuesday- will
Have to make the best of it!
Not much exercise today. Went through a few townhomes and then made a wrong turn and ended up at a dream house. There is a bike trail nearby and a park with access to the lake (kayaking!!) within a 5 min drive. Too much house and too much money, but Mr. fell in love. Now it is my job to find every freakin’ negative of that place.
@dmd77 – thanks for the tip about GinGins and Jelly Belly sports beans – I’ll try some of those.
For anyone else with plantar fasciitis (I got some great help here from MOWC and BunsenBurner) I have found that wearing running shoes for doing errands helps too. I didn’t realize what a pounding my feet took, walking in the city wearing thin soled ballet flats. I may look dorky but my feet have to be happy.
^^I’ve decided that flats are really a big no-no for feet unless you have some high quality well padded flats that still provide some cushioning. The only exception I make for me is TOMS. I love my TOMS!
CNN has an interesting little study highlighted today on the risks of sugary drinks. Two or more 200-milliliter servings of sweetened drinks, consumed daily, were found to double the risk of developing diabetes.
A bit over two miles this morning; some unfortunate developments on the home front are putting the race in the might not happen category. It’s not over until the fat lady sings, but I hear she’s warming up.
Class of 2015 I gave up trying to find cute flats that fit and were comfortable to walk much. I wear sneakers. Here in France the women all look nice and about half are wearing boots. The other half wear sneakers. Just remember to wear a cute scarf
Sabaray, sending good vibes and hugs for your home front. My wish for you is to feel peace with whatever the outcome needs to be. You’re fully awesome and worthy no matter what! Every time you hit the pavement - for a purpose towards a race goal or just to get off the couch and clear your mind - you (we all are) WINNING. <3
Also, just FYI I can’t really toot TOMS to be “good for your feet” though I have had pairs that have been more comfortable and padded than others. They are just the exception I make for “flat” shoes for myself.
Noooo…sabaray, please let the issues resolve themselves (or not) and get to your race! You have worked so hard for this, I just really hope that you’re able to do it. I’m really sorry to hear this development, I know you have struggled with a lot on your plate for the last year (probably longer?) and I really hope you’re able to do the race for yourself.
What an incredible performance by WildChild! It is amazing how well he did, and unfortunate that the penalty kept him from getting the 2nd place finish. Congratulations on an incredible job and it’s wonderful that he did so well considering the last tri that didn’t go so well.
dmd - wow, your 5K sounded very challenging! Great job on your run, especially with the hills, elevation, and terrain changes.
BB - it’s fun to look at homes but moving is such a major ordeal. I hope you and Mr. BB end up on the same page with whatever you decision you guys come to. I thought of you yesterday when we were passed by a guy on an ElliptiGo on our trail. It looked fun! We don’t see many of them here at all, so it was quite a novelty.
Saturday was a 14 mile run and it was a real struggle. Just one of those days when it was hard to keep going. I’m now in the taper and plan to enjoy it! A short run planned for tonight. The weather is very nice, I love fall!
Oh, and that article about diabetes risk has me concerned! I have never heard of a link between diet sodas and diabetes before. I drink WAY too much Diet Coke and so does H (although he does more Diet Dr. Pepper than Diet Coke). He has a strong family history of type 2 diabetes and I thought that with all of our exercise and healthy eating that we were lessening his risk. I did not know that the diet sodas are a diabetes risk. I will have to do some more reading. Thanks for the link, sabaray.
Sabaray- hoping for a good outcome for you.
Thanks, C3B- my son seems to be particularly good at half Ironman. I think he is ranked 6h in the US overall amateur right now. He ran in Hoka Tracers, by the way.
sabaray, I hope everything gets resolved so that you can do and enjoy the race. That article on added sugar and diet drinks and diabetes is an important one. So many people think that drinking “diet” beverages is such a wonderful way to avoid added sugar and weight gain. They just don’t get how diet beverages themselves present a host of health issues and can also be very counter-productive to weight management and good nutrition.
Congrats to DMD and Wildchild on their competitions. Sabaray–stay Zen and keep calm. Hope all works out.
Yoga (on You-Tube) at home and lots of walking–5 miles on both days over the weekend. We had friends visiting for the weekend–high winds stranded everyone for an extra day (vacation place is on an island–ferries stopped running all day on Sunday). We explored a couple of local trails–one around cranberry bogs, which was really interesting.
Thanks everyone. I’m trying to cobble together a solution that doesn’t involve my formerly supportive husband.
I’ve really tried to avoid artificial sweeteners recently as well as added sugars - if I am recalling correctly from past discussions within this thread, artificial sweeteners as well as “natural” ones like stevia, etc., can also contribute to insulin resistance. I have a strong family history of diabetes but the diet and exercise have really helped.
Saturday I ran with a friend I had run with a few weeks ago - at the time we had talked about added sugar and I hadn’t seen her since. The group had breakfast after and she told me then that she’d really been making an effort to reduce added sugar and she felt so much better. So if you’ve never tried a sugar “detox”, try eliminating refined sugars and artificial sweeteners. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel!
Wow that’s fascinating about the diet beverages. I will have to share with DH - he drinks a TON of diet Snapple, diet Coke, etc. I hate spending money and effort buying heavy flats of this stuff & hauling it home. I don’t know if he’ll be receptive…may have to wait for the right moment.
Sabaray - really hoping everything works out for you!!
