I had an OK run on the treadmill today – too rainy and windy to run outside (for me).
I did pull a muscle on my side the other day (either weights or yoga) – I can walk and run, but other activities are on hold until that heals.

Dang autocorrect. “Compliment.”
Take care of your sore side, fireandrain. Ice, some vitamin I… hope it will be back to normal soon.
Nice working out everyone! It was beautiful here today, and I too went out for the long run. I ran for 10.14 miles. Funny that MoWC was trying to be slow and ended up with her result. I’d love to run like that! I was trying to be fast and fought to get near her pace. My run took me 1:46:50 and I’m happy with that. Temps were in the low 60’s–way better for my breathing and stamina than 70’s and 80’s. H and I went to the opera this afternoon. Lots of sitting
We had beer and Irish food for dinner–smoked salmon, an Irish egg, mussels, and onion rings. Yum.
Finished the day by raking some leaves and beautifying the front yard a little while enjoying the fall colors. Mr B noticed that the newly painted front door matches the color of my Japanese maples!
BB, I’m impressed he was that observant. Sounds so pretty.
It sounds gorgeous, Bunsen!
Tracking my son on Ironman tracker is the most stressful thing I do in my life. I never know if the tracker is down or my son has quit or what? The guy listed first in his age group (this is a huge half ironman) is incorrect since he has a total bike split of 16:33 (203 miles per hour). WildChild didn’t have a good swim (at least that’s the way I read it) and was 17th in his age group out of the water. Moved up to 7th off the bike (really 6th if you take out the 203 mph guy) and appears to be running them down early on in the run. His first 3.3 mile run split was 6:09 pace. Long ways to go. His bike average was 24.3 mph. It’s a very fast field filled with top South Americans. Anyway- with the lags in the tracker and the mistakes, it’s very nerve-wracking. I really want him to have a good race to end his season.
We want him to have a good race too and are cheering him on!
Hes at 6.5 at just over 41 minutes which is close to halfway. He should be in the 1:20s for the half marathon if he doesn’t die. It’s not a cool day, either. He’s outrunning the age group but may not have enough time to catch them all. One guy had about 10 minutes on him off the bike. He probably won’t be caught!
Fingers crossed, MOfWC.
I skipped out on run club yesterday morning, so I had to do 8 miles on my own. I left at sundown & ended up doing at least half in full darkness. It was delightful! I think I’ve discovered my favorite running time, though I definitely need a head lamp so I can see where I’m putting my feet. It was nice & cool & getting progressively cooler through the run and no worries about sunburn. I’ll take a day off today, then back to Body Pump on Monday.
First the tracker said he finished 2nd (1:24:42 half marathon), then 3rd and now 4th. That’s still a great showing in a huge age group. I know he will be disappointed to have just missed the podium (under a minute…) 40th overall out of over 2700 competitors. The 3rd place guy had faster transitions, which really was why he edged out WildChild. Geez.
Great showing MWOC. That triathlon tracker is going to age you 5 years! Why do we go to anxiety central when our kids compete?
He did great MOWC.
"40th overall out of over 2700 competitors. "
In a race with so many tough competitors from all over the world … That is an AMAZING result. Kudos to WildChild. And to his mom and the rest of his support team.
Looks like he was about 14th amateur (take out the Pros). He was beaten by an Australian, an American and a Brazilian. I’m glad the season is over, although he is still doing that insane Swim/Run thing in Virginia where you swim between islands in your running shoes and run in your wetsuit.
As for me- I did 3 miles which felt absolutely horrible. My legs were very tired from the 11 yesterday and today felt like a death march, but I got it done. It was a pretty morning. I have to get up really early to run tomorrow since I have an 8 am flight. On Tuesday morning I’m afraid some meet and greet meetings have been set for me during the breakfast hour, which means I need to reschedule them since that’s when I need to run. I usually slip in at the end of the breakfast and eat before the programs start. I’m a little anxious about running early in the dark in New Orleans. It’s not the safest place. I’ve done it before, but I’m not sure it was this time of year and so dark. I may just do the treadmill if I feel uncomfortable. I’ve seen people staggering back to the hotels in the morning when I’ve been heading out to run…
He said he made a lot of dumb mistakes. He got a 5 minute blocking penalty on the bike. He actually rode 2:13 instead of 2:18 without that. He said he should have been 2nd. Oh well. I guess he’ll learn. He gets frustrated because the South Americans draft illegally when they race and don’t get penalized enough, so he tries to “pay them back” and always gets caught. It’s sort of like speeding- he always gets caught. The finisher’s medal is really nice though!
Congrats to WildChild. Even with the various frustrations he encountered, that’s still a great finish.
I’m finally back from a week of wedding celebrations. Having fun at party after party is exhausting! No more weddings to go to until March and that one will be in Miami, a good place to in early March instead of Philly! My daughter leaves for her Thailand honeymoon tomorrow. Because of the death of the King and the period of morning, black or white attire is customarily worn in public as a sign of respect. No problem for my daughter, she’s just gonna bring all her lulu clothing :). She’s also taking one of my TRX rigs for when their overnight accommodations don’t have a gym.
Thought I might do an outdoor ride but didn’t get back from Harrisburg until 1:00 and have charts to revise, cleaning in the studio and nutrition certification reading to do. So I guess it will be indoor wattage training for an hour at some point.
Congrats to your son, @MomofWildChild — I wonder where he got that competitive drive
??
DD and I did our local 5K for the fourth year in a row. My first year was 46 minutes and today I did 33:56, which is almost two minutes faster than last year. It’s got 477 feet of climbing and a net uphill finish by 100 feet–it’s got trails, sidewalks, roads, stairs and even a bit of rocky technical trail with a 15% grade. I was the only one in my age group–it was a small group—but I also finished 12th of 35 (like I said, small race), so I feel like I did okay.
Congratulations! It sounds really hard and you are awesome to take it on!
