Sending good vibes to racers.

In Vegas for a trade show for 4 days. Was going to take yesterday off since I knew I’d be walking a lot. Instead a put in 3 miles running from the parking lot to the different halls. I noted that I was the only one running. Will need a lung transplant after being exposed to all the second hand smoke. Can’t believe all the smokers.

Go Tribe!

Hooray for Sabaray! Can’t wait to hear about it when you finish!

Vegas and New Orleans both seem to have a lot of smokers. I hate smoking.

Sabaray is through 30K so she’s in the tough stretch and on the move!

Fingers crossed for our founding member sabaray!!

I hate smoking with a passion, too. Vegas was way too much for me. The one time we went to a fancy restaurant at Tulalip, we walked out of the building as quickly as we could! The casino’s smoke seeped into the rest of the facilities that were supposed to be non-smoking.

Best wishes for a good race Sabaray!!

Waiting for news about Sabaray! Hope she’s finished safely, pain free, and with a smile!! You’re amazing Sabaray!

@BunsenBurner I don’t feel too bad then!

DH and I are heading to Vegas in 2 weeks for the R&R Half. We may drag D16 along, so she can be my “maid of honor” at the run-through wedding where we will renew our vows. Good silly fun. We’ll eat a couple of brunch buffets, take D16 to some of the arcades/rides & probably see a show - Cirque du Soleil or maybe Jersey Boys.

It’s about a 6-hour drive from here - I’m not looking forward to 6 hours in the car the day after a half but I guess we can make a lot of stops to walk around!

That sounds like a fun trip, Gertrude. Enjoy!

Not getting updates on sabaray. I bet it got really hot. I hope she is OK.

My son completed this ridiculous thing today. http://swimrunnc.com/ His planned partner got injured, so he was assigned a “substitute partner”. God knows what speed the partner was. The event involves swimming in your running shoes, trail running, more swimming, more running- all while tethered to your partner so you stay together. All he told me was that he survived and that it was really hard.

I decided that I absolutely have to change up my routes more if I’m going to stay motivated to keep up my mileage. Today I drove 11 minutes (not bad at all) into my town where there is a new trail extension (paved) by the small river. It turned out to be gorgeous with beautiful trees and fields. It was pretty flat with a few small hills. I went 2 miles out and back and I’m not sure how long it is from end to end. Maybe 4 miles or so. I didn’t see water or bathrooms, though. It was a nice change of pace.

bunsenburner – thanks for the article – I know when I was running in NYC in the '80s (right after college) I had some kids throws stones at me through the fence around the reservoir. Maybe I wasn’t going fast enough? And there have been some awful cases nearby where women running alone in the daytime but in isolated places have been attacked.

Here’s hoping Sabaray is done, pleased with her results, and putting her feet up. All your real and virtual friends are sending good thoughts your way.

Have a good one Gertrude. The wedding vow renewal will be a sweet (uniquely sweaty)addition to the mix of fun! One of our friends’ daughters is dating a guy in the LV Cirque show. They all love the show and the music.

Thinking about Sabaray and hoping she’s doing okay.

It got warm again here, that slow energy sucking warm. My husband and I did a meet up after my run and his walk so we could have a nice stroll home together after a coffee shop date. I ran 4.5 miles, he walked 3.5 miles, we had our coffee (no donuts today), and then we walked another 4 or 5 together. It was a good day to kind of take the slow way home.

Men have yelled stuff at me when I run. At its worst when I was in my twenties, blond, buxom, an oddity out running, less common as I get older and am less blond and less buxom and women running is not an oddity. Men have thrown things from cars, but not in years.

I ran 3:35 at New York in 1979. I can’t believe it, but apparently I did. That wasn’t BQ for me, but I got down to the sub 3:20 the next year and then down to my 3:08 PR. Now I could conceivably be 2 hours slower! I have to say, it was nice not having it take so long!

You all have been busy!

I appreciate everyone’s good wishes. Sadly, yesterday was not the day to complete a second marathon. Temps reaching 80 degrees and blazing sun in an urban environment were not my friends and I found myself in medical at mile 21 with significant dehydration. 3 bags of saline later and I felt much better and was no longer wobbling like a drunken sailor! Had some significant cramping in my legs start at the halfway point, thought I could tough it out, but it wasn’t to be. Just a perfect storm of less than optimal weather conditions.

Today I feel like I was run over by a truck. Easy week to recover, trip to the doc, then back to some easy running for a while. Forgive my iPad typing- I’ll catch up on everyone else once I’m home to my computer!

Thanks for posting sabaray. It was very hot yesterday and I can only imagine how tough a run that was. But you did a lot and listened to your body when you needed to. I am glad you are healthy. Just because, I went back and read your very first post om this thread. You have come a long way and have so much to be proud of.

Thanks for checking in @sabaray. I’ve been thinking of you. Sorry the weather did not cooperate. :frowning:

Sabaray I think it says a lot you did 21 miles in that heat! The waves of heat coming off the pavement must have been brutal. I can’t believe you ran 8 miles with your legs cramping. You are our inspiration. Glad you’re safe.

Happy Hallowe’en everyone. Saw lots of townhouses decorated on my run this morning. 46 and windy.

Yes- it was a tough day and sabaray was the best she could be on that day. Proud of you for starting and making it that far. Wear the shirt proudly! Anyone who races has days when the finish line isn’t meant to be and your personal finish line didn’t happen to be at 26.2. You made it very, very far, though.

It is all such a cr&pshoot with weather, conditions, injuries etc. Yesterday the Austin 70.3 had the swim cancelled due to fog and as a result of the delay in deciding to make that call, the bike portion started hours late and the heat was brutal. It was the goal race for one of my friends and he wound up walking the entire half marathon instead of running.

In my opinion, 21 miles IS a marathon. It’s more important that you are alive and well to tell the story! Who would have guessed 80 end of October! I bet those medic tents were busy.
