Bromfield- that’s funny! We were there together! What was your time? I’ll have to look mine up, but I remember the hills in Central Park were hard, I think I was in the 3:55 area.
Thanks MOWC! That’s so funny you and Bromfield both ran it in '79. I think it will definitely be a challenge but if the crowds are cheering, that will help!
I was way slower than you, MOWC–about 4 1/2 hrs. I walked alot! See, there is a reason I don’t run–I am really slow.
Classof2015–the crowd was amazing. I assume it still is–people do cheer you on, especially once you get into Manhattan. Does it still start on Staten Island and over the Verrazano (sp?) Bridge and end in Central Park?
,
Yes Bromfield – that’s the route - over the Verrazano bridge; ends in Central Park. Fiance (who has done it before) says when you come off the 59th St bridge and hit First Avenue, it’s a wall of sound. I won’t have anyone cheering (fiancé is running; kids are away) so I will welcome some encouragement.
I actually did the last 10 this morning with a running group sponsored by Nike so I could see what it feels like. I’ve heard when you go into the Bronx around Mile 20 it gets really quiet (less crowds) and hard to stay motivated. At 54, I was definitely the oldest one in the group ha ha…but it was fun.
4 1/2 hours isn’t slow- especially not now!
^^So glad you said this. 26.2 in 4.5 sounds extraordinary, Bromfield! So excited for Sabaray who’s doubtless asleep on the eve of her race.
Nice MoWC! My race is next weekend. I don’t mean to disappoint but today I was that person eating a donut at the coffee shop my husband and I walked to. We did get in at least 8 miles of walking on the journey though!
Bunsen, I already feel sad about losing my extra hour. On the other hand, I’ll get the benefit of a little light at dawn.
I want the light at dawn, although leaving work in the dark isn’t pleasant.
Fallgirl I hope you enjoyed your trip despite the sick day ! And wow back to work the day after getting off the plame!
Good luck to sabaray!
Thinking of you @sabaray
Sending the good vibes, sabaray!
GO SABARAY!
Have a great race sabaray!
You go, sabaray!!
Waving hello to all! Back from a fun trip to FL – GREAT weather the entire time. Spent time with friends, did a lot of “beaching” and probably ate/drank too much.
S was at our condo when we returned – messed up timezone-wise and fighting a bad cold. I went into full mom mode and dosed him with meds, food, etc. He’s off later today on a 3 day road trip ending at his next base, on the FL panhandle. At least he’ll only be 1 hour behind us, making communication (infrequent as it may be) much easier. During the last year he’s been to 16 countries.
While in FL, I visited a pilates/yoga studio in the town where we’ll be renting a place for 5 weeks in Jan/Feb. I’ve never done either activity before, but feel I need to be stretching a lot more.
Kudos to all (& their kids) for various successes over the past 2 weeks. I actually did skim all the posts.
GO SABARAY!!!
Hoping Sabaray is channeling all her hard work and good vibes into a satisfying run - no matter what , what an achievement!
Go Sabaray–enjoy your race!’
A new study by Runner’s World - many female runners experienced harassment while running.

I read that! I haven’t had too many issues. Occasionally someone will sit on a horn or yell out of a car and scare me. Since I mainly run early in the morning in a pretty suburban place, I think that helps. In my early running years in Dallas I rescued a woman who had been attacked at our popular running place- White Rock Lake- on a Sunday morning. She fought the guy off and he ran, but she was a wreck. It was before cellphones, but we got a cyclist to go find the police. They caught the guy.
