Wow, congrats C3! That’s a crazy fast pace in my world - for 26 miles!!! Are you like 24 years old!!!

Your foot/calf/ankle issues sounds awful. I don’t know how you all do it.

C3B- congratulations on an excellent race. Great time for you AND your husband. I have a friend who runs with the Carmel group who got her first BQ today with a 3:51. It sounds like the race in Indy went well!

Just saw on FB that a friend of mine (guy) also did well in Indy and BQ’d. But his wife said he’ll have to see how many take spots to see if he gets in.

Wow, congrats to you and your H, C3Baker!

Good luck, PlantMom!!!

Congratulations MOWC (and D) and C3B! Good luck to everyone tomorrow (today?).

Congratulations to all who raced yesterday and good luck to those going today! I’m in awe of anyone finishing a marathon in any amount of time. Not an item on my bucket list.

Nice to hear I’m not the only who really, really dislikes the time change in the fall. D and I text each other with frownie faces … Also, I never really get an extra hour of sleep since I tend to wake up at the same time as always. So, this morning I woke up at 4:30, which would have been 5:30 before the time change – about my normal time. Even the pup is confused. H, OTOH, has no problem sleeping until his normal time.

Congrats C3! Both you and your H are very impressive.

Good luck to today’s racers.

Nice racing everyone. Really impressed with your time C3B. 8:37 pace for 26 miles is pretty amazing. Running long distance and at a fast pace takes (IMHO) takes a steel trap mind. The minute you start thinking — you’re doomed!

Congratulations to MoWC and C3B. So happy you did so well! As one of our favorite late members used to say, I am not worthy.

But… I was inspired by all of you today! I’m back and I did it! Half marathon done. I tried to go to sleep so early last night that I woke up around midnight and didn’t really fall back to sleep before my 2:30 AM alarm. The cold front didn’t bring the cooler temperatures promised, but did deliver a little rain. Ugh, a damp morning that dried up by race time. I got to the corral area at least an hour before race start and sat in the 64 degree (chilling but not cooling) darkness with a bunch of fairly quiet people. Jen Simpson was there as were Jeff Galloway, Minnie, and Mickey. They gave inspirational little pep talks, although it boggled my mind to hear Jen Simpson talking about her planned 6 minute plus planned training pace. She was obviously up at the front of the elite runners’ corral, lol. There were lots of dressed up runners in every imaginable Disney costume, My Minnie skirt was quite unoriginal, of course  My running went pretty well. I ended up with a total time of 2:12:49, enough to give me places of 20/376 of age group; 722/8600(?) of women; and 1686/ 14500(?). I am very happy! I thought Disney did a really good job organizing the race by having lots of volunteers and employees to keep the participants entertained, educated, flowing and healthy. I’m very glad I was able to get a decent spot to start at the front of my corral; the position allowed me to catch up to and finally pass the Galloway pace group in the corral in front of me. I watched for miles to see their pace sign and maybe 2/3 of the way through, there it was. The mirage of runners, Galloway run/walkers, that I knew were at my dream pace materialized. Oh, and I followed a fully costumed Goofy for awhile. I don’t know if he beat me, or exited somewhere, but gosh darnit, I didn’t want to think about how fast he was running. At the end I was pretty tired (and warm), but I caught a psychological break when the course turned for the finish at the Epcot fountain and NOT at the other side of the lake with the countries. Whew! For those of you not familiar with the EPCOT layout, that jog around the lake must add another mile. What a mental break. The course was absolutely packed, but the race organizes spaced out groups well enough that I never felt claustrophobic, never really had problems passing or slowing for a walk or water break.

I’m glad it’s done! The medal is a big silver thing I will treat like a treasured family jewel  I want to say thanks again to you all, D/E/H/W group for all of your help in the incredibly supportive and inspiring posts. No way would I have even started a race like this without you all.

I wonder how 2015 is doing. Hope she’s well in NYC. Gertrude, are you running today?

Yay, PlantMom! 20th place in your age group is beyond awesome. But the most awesomest part is that you did it! Kudos!!!

That’s excellent! It does sound like a well-staged race for all those people. Congratulations and treasure that medal. Your time is really good- especially for warm weather!

Plantmom, you truly rock! That sounds like an amazing placing! What an accomplishment to complete a 1/2 - you are inspiring!

Great job PlantMom!

That is awesome, PlantMom! You can no longer call yourself a turtle or any other type of slow mollusk! Congratulations!

Wow, PlantMom, that was a great race! I woke up in the middle of the night and looked at the time and thought to myself, “Holy Cow, PlantMom is getting ready to run a half marathon!”. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to get up in the middle of the night like that to get to the starting area, only to have to wait around in the corrals. It sounds as if it was a pretty fun atmosphere for the race and that’s cool! You did really great, especially considering that you have had to do all your training in the Florida heat. Way to go!

I just looked up my time for my first half marathon because your time sounded very familiar. My Garmin shows:
Sun, Oct 20, 2013 11:46 AM
2:12:49

Isn’t that crazy?! We had the same time in our first half marathons!

I hope Classof2015 had a good race this morning, I’m looking forward to hearing about it!

PlantMom – that’s awesome! For your first half that’s great!

C3Baker – wow that is a great time! Very impressive. You just flew through that course!

I wish I had better news to report. I was at 1:52 at the halfway point then around Mile 18 I got slower and slower. My goal was under 4 hours and I was on track for that even up til Mile 18. Then the hill on the bridge into the Bronx plus the sun and the wind just did me in. I ended up with 4:14. I’m trying to figure out what happened. Conditions were ideal (except for a little wind). I feel like I learned a lot and as people said here, the crowds are amazing! Truly a great experience, regardless of the time.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

@Classof2015 , you know we all set a goal. But that goal is not the only “winning” thing that can happen! In awe of your ability to complete a marathon - period. And 4:14 is something to be proud of! I hope you’re feeling ok!

I think you did well, Class. NY is a hard course because of the hills at the end. I’ve read a lot today from pros who race today about how it was so much harder than they thought it would be. Congratulations on a great finish. Marathon is tough!
Like my son says about Ironman triathlon, “You have a great swim, you can gain a minute. Have a bad run, you can lose an hour and a half!”

Classof2015 - great job on your race! You had a fantastic time, especially for your first marathon. Those hills sound pretty tough - and all those bridges! I’ll bet it was an amazing experience to run with those crowds cheering you on. I hope you’re getting some well-deserved rest now and re-fueling. Congratulations!

@PlantMom - I am so impressed with your time & placing. You must have trained very well! Congratulations!!! I am not racing today - the Vegas race is a week from today in the evening.

@2015 - Congrats to you as well on a great NYC finish -excellent job!!
