I love reading the race reports on Sunday afternoons! Congrats to all! You all sound amazing. Ten miles, halfs, fulls… WOW!
I had a nice run with the dog this morning, bringing my week’s mileage to over 21 miles, for the first time since September. The high point of the run was seeing a graceful young woman running toward me with a relaxed stride that just made me smile with pleasure; she immediately inspired me to lighten and quicken my own stride and I had a few moments of “flow” and sheer joy as I felt myself emulating her beautiful running. And then, as she passed me, I realized that it was Shalane Flanagan! (I think. Pretty sure, but I’m not great with faces so I could be wrong.)
Congratulations Plantmom, C3Baker and Classof2015. You all did great and should feel very gratified.
Me, my workout this afternoon was solo babysitting my 8 month old grand-daughter who right now has severe separation from mommy hysterics. Had to hold her and walk for 3 1/2 hours while my wife was at a craft show and my son and daughter-in-law were at an anivesrary brunch. Exhausting workout! Now, finally, I get to relax by doing an hour of indoor wattage training. Yippee ;).
Shalane was in NYC - not running the marathon, but part of the Grand Marshall crew.
Great job with the babysitting, Michael!
Bunsen- I was thinking about you today. Any closer to figuring out what is exactly wrong? Did you get to ride the Elliptigo today? Meb is going to run NY 2017 as his final professional marathon!
Um, Michael, I think you had the hardest workout. I miss my babies. but definitely not the extended howling!
That’s funny about the half time, C3B. I don’t know if I’ll be repeating this experience, though, so it may be my last half marathon! My daughter asked me if I was going to run a full marathon now. Honestly, I can’t imagine running another half after a half. I stand in awe of you marathoners.
Beautiful morning here today - low thirties, no humidity - love this kind of day. Easy 5 miles. It’s very strange but I feel like this giant burden has been lifted as far as running goes. I don’t know quite how to describe it. I just feel more relaxed.
Went to a “new” Pilates mat class yesterday at the gym we belong to. I really prefer the studio but it’s harder and harder to get to the classes I want to - there are barre and mat classes I’d like to take but unfortunately they are scheduled at 9:30 am. Sadly I’m not yet able to retire. There’s a mat class that I usually try to go to on Monday, but it’s a 4:30 class - again, not ideal. Most of the other evening classes or early am classes are TRX or Cardio Barre - not quite how I want to start or end my day. I’m glad I had half a clue when it comes to Pilates because the class I went to yesterday was awful - I could have taught it better!
Plantmom, C3, MOWC, and Classof 2015 congratulations on your races. Great results for all. Class–I remember that stretch of the course in the Bronx. It was not fun.
This week was a gym workout–my trainer was going to Wales (her birthplace) and wrote out a 30-minute weight workout for me. Did a hot yoga class yesterday.
If I were 10 years younger, I would go for getting certified as a yoga teacher.
sabaray - I think I know what you mean about feeling as if a giant burden has been lifted as far as running goes. I am excited that now I can run just for fun and not to be training for anything in particular. Glad you enjoyed your run this morning. I think Michael is onto something - you would be a great Pilates instructor! Maybe that could be your transition-into-retirement job!
I am looking forward to a slow and easy run tonight after work. In the dark with a headlamp. Curse you, End of Daylight Saving Time!
I have tried knuckle lights- a few years ago. I was SO excited about them! The battery life was horrific- and when the battery goes, it goes! You are out there in the dark with no light. It doesn’t gradually dim. Maybe they have fixed it since I had them. I got sent replacement units and everything, but nothing kept the batteries worth a flip. I was disappointed.
After training so hard for an event and doing structured workouts, it IS nice to just run how you want.
PlantMom – we did it! Woo hoo!! I raise a virtual glass of cheer to you and your sore legs!
Thanks Gertrude, dmd77, MnK, FallGirl – I appreciate the kind words and good wishes.
Thanks MOWC – I appreciate you saying that. Yes, lots of hills, lots of bridges. There were some spectactors at the last one chanting “Last damn bridge! Last damn bridge!”
C3Baker – thank you so much! Yes if I put it in perspective (1st one, at 54) I feel good about it. Best part was seeing the texts from my kids who tracked me. DS put my finish time on FB and his friends all said I was a beast. I think that’s a compliment, right?
sabaray – I thought of you at Mile 18 when I was dying (in 50 degree weather). I wouldn’t have lasted til Mile 10 in the heat you ran in.
Hope all of us who raced this weekend can rest and rehydrate and heal this week. We deserve it!
I don’t know if I would like Pilates as much if it was like an actual job. I’d have to be nice to clients to get people to come to my classes and some of them are just not very nice people. There are times I am not a very nice person but compared to some of the folks I’ve seen at the studio I’m Mother Theresa!
It was such a nice morning I walked to work! I need to do that more often.
Rest day today. Ran both weekend days and also yoga classes. I did do a decent dog walk this AM and plan to walk during my lunch break so I still get the steps in.
Walk to work - lovely! I’m probably just a little over 2 miles from work - and I could do a mostly residential walk, BUT I’m the bag lady and always have stuff to haul back and forth so it’s a no go! Glad you took advantage of the weather!
