Also BB you remind me…the support through injuries and life roadblocks that could put us off track (literally!) but this thread still keeps us motivated to get back to things when the time is right and to always, always, be ready to recharge mentally to tackle our health and well being.
Absolutely, abasket! It also lets me run vicariously through all of you who runs.
Yesterday I had a glorious run along the Chicago lakefront. I felt like an extra on ER (I remember a lot of scenes shot there). It was warm and not a cloud in the sky, with crisp views of the skyline.
Today I am trying Orange Theory with a friend I made on the internet.
While others have been stress eating, I’ve found my appetite has pretty much vanished after the events on Tuesday night. I was so starving after my run that I went to a burger joint and had a really greasy hamburger overflowing with cheese, mushrooms, onions and special sauce, with a side of fries. It tasted great.
Let us know what you think of Orange Theory, fireandrain. Still haven’t tried it but it’s on the list.
Friends from the internet rock!
Give that internet friend all of our love!
Fireandrain, hugs. I too stop eating when I am under stress. That therapeutic burger sounds great. I think I will have a burger for dinner tonight, I will just skip the bun.
Yes, Internet friends are awesome! Have fun, you two!
thanks PlantMom! Woke up with a migraine and am vertical for the first time today :(. Hoping lots of rest will let me get out tomorrow. I feel so much better when I run.
Knee feeling better. Working on cadence. Alternating AlterG and spinning. Did a mile at 5:00 pace at 90% weight Thursday so I’m making progress.
I had to reread Michael’s post on distance coaching. My first reaction—he’s coaching distance runners! I’ll sign up! I’ve always felt the best coach is the one that knows how to get inside your head vs sports knowledge. My guess is Michael excels at that.
I “heart” sabaray and all this group that she started stands for. Yes, internet friends are completely amazing.
Sorry, 2015. Hope that migrane is gone or on its way out.
Best wishes for your whole weekend, gertrude!
I drove up to a state park today to hike, think, and take photographs. I probably went about 7 miles, in all. Some sections of trail were challenging because of the dry, deep, fine sand. The wildlife people and police were conducting some type of training, complete with helicopters, armed men, and dogs. As I walked by a group of 5 or so, all carrying large weapons, I overheard them discussing a scenario of armed criminals on the loose. Yikes, so much for peace and quiet! Fortunately, they were contained to the mile 1 and 7 area of the loop I walked, but I’m always going to be thinking about their hypothetical bad guys when I’m out there again.
Running along the Chicago lakefront = awesome! Hope it wasn’t TOO windy!
Glad your knee is showing improvement Ohio. And yeah, MK is surely as worthy in person as he is on paper - well, message board!
Lucky to have today off. Every Veterans Day I take my dog to the vet for a check up. It’s our tradition! Sure wish my doc visits went so smoothly and quick! He was a very, very good boy!
Besides an early morning long walk and an evening dog walk, I spent a good bit of the day in Ann Arbor doing a little family b-day shopping and initially Christmas shopping. Stopped at Zingerman’s for a delicious reuben - 1/2 of it came home with me. Stared at but bypassed the baked goods including their incredible hummingbird cake and mini pies in multiple flavors. Admit though that after 5pm their bagels were all 1/2 off so I’ll be having some fine Zingerman carbs in the morning! Gotta live a little!
I did a last minute signup for a very difficult, hilly half marathon tomorrow. It slow key and for a good cause. I’m. It freaking out. I plan to do it as a training run and walk when I need to on the climbs. Oh God. What have I done. I ran it in 2013 in 2:12, which I won’t be anywhere near tomorrow. No rush!
Wow, MOfWC! You are simply superhuman. Yes!!! Please treat it as a training run.
We’ll be here to hear how it went afterwards MOWC - a last minute half marathon - why not…!!!
Good luck this weekend to Gertrude and MOWC! I’m at a nice distracting dog thing all weekend–
Once again, good luck to all those racing this weekend!
We’re almost done with the fall house chores here at the beach; returning to our urban abode Monday morning. My exercise has consisted of cleaning plus a few dog walks. My “awkward gait” has made the latter less than enjoyable.
For all who are racing this weekend, have fun and enjoy!
CBBB, sorry you are still having issues. Even though my dogs are trained to walk on my left, I have them switch off to the right as I noticed some stress on the left side of my body when I had them walk on my left every time (I hope that makes sense). Do you do any stretching? I have been better about doing that and it has made a difference. My Pilates guru thinks I may have strained my piriformis so I’m trying to give my body a break.
Beautiful 7 miles this morning with three friends - low thirties here. Tried out the new First Mile zip and it was toasty! I wore a tank underneath and I did not need anything else - I was almost too warm. It is longer but extremely comfortable. Thumbs up.
MOWC - what if you tried a reverse time goal, like having a goal of finishing slower than 2:20 or 2:30?
We’re up early to head to Vegas. We’ll visit the Expo. then have dinner, then see a Cirque du Soleil show. Sleep late tomorrow. The race starts at 4:30 PM tomorrow - very different, not having to get up in the wee hours of the morning.
If you were at the gym today and saw a girl slugging around with smoke sputtering out behind her…that was me.
Man, I had zero energy whatsoever. It was atrocious. I knew it from when I started my warm up. I may need to rethink my workouts or my cut cycle because this is not working. I feel overworked and my knees are feeling it, too.
Is it too much to ask to build strength and lose weight at the same time? Yes, I just want the best of both worlds.
