Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Sending out the heling thoughts for C3’s knee and dmd’s cold.

I am another one who didn’t want to run in the rain today so it was treadmill for me.

45 minutes on the Cybex Arc … my legs felt like lead. On the bright side, the sun is finally out again, and it’s 50 degrees. Quite nice for December 1!

Re: insurance – I forgot to mention H’s firm is paying the premiums, so that’s a plus. But, this is a very high deductible plan, we almost never have claims, and it still costs an outrageous amount.

Getting a haircut later today. Need to do 30 minutes of something at the work gym to get my exercise in. Won’t have time to fully shower so need to tailor my exercise (probably not running) so that I can make the exercise useful but not be totally sweating! - too gross to arrive at the salon with gross hair even if they are washing it!!!

It was very warm this morning but the temp has already been dropping to more seasonal temps. Rain finally stopped - we got a lot. 7.2 miles before work this morning, then some pup walking. Signed up for a NYE “Glow Run” - something fun and different. Only a 5k but the course is a hilly out and back. Figure that will keep me going for this month anyway!

I don’t know how you run 7 miles AND a pup walk all before work! Do you ever sleep?! What do you use for light in the dark Sabaray? Are you running neighborhood streets, park trails?

I am in bed around 9 every night - so I get pretty close to 7 hours of sleep. We meet at 5 and run in a well lit area - I have a headlamp that I do wear now that it’s darker, as does most of my group. I was home before 7 and Mr. Sabaray and I walked the dogs for around 30 minutes , then I got ready for work and was there by 9. It’s doable - I don’t particularly like running that early, but I like having company and that’s when I can get it. Streets are pretty quiet at that hour and we are very cautious. No one runs alone.

Your dedication is inspirational!

Admirable, sabaray! I was out the door about 6:20 and I felt like it was too early! That’s why I don’t run as far as I should in the mornings…

Eating has been our of control and I’m a couple of pounds up and the REAL holiday food hasn’t even started hitting the office yet. Need to dial it back. Candy everywhere- including some really good stuff. My husband brought Eggnog home, which I love, and had a small Tupperware cup of last night at bedtime. Not a good plan.

I envy you, sabaray, in a good way! You rock.
(I get home at 10 pm after my late night class, but the class was so worth it - it was about food! Bad food, that is. So maybe that’s why I was never hungry on class nights and it kept my weight in check. )

I guess running is the only way I know to keep my weight somewhat in check and still eat! Checks and balances - running ten miles Saturday means I can have pancakes. Worth it.

My son Snapchatted me a picture of his face bloody with a big scrape on his cheek. He fell on his bike on a wet wooden footbridge- the kind I’m scared to death to run on because I fall. Lovely. I wish he would just sit still somewhere.

^^^Ouch. This time of year the combination of wet, leaves, soil = danger.

Fluttered around the gym at lunch - some track, some rowing, some treadmill, a little weights.

Wild child sit still? Is that even possible?

Sabaray, I can’t even imagine running at 5 am. I can’t imagine running in the dark, either.

There was a window of nice weather this afternoon, and I grabbed it – went out for a run. Even on relatively warm days, with the sun setting so early it quickly gets chilly outside.

I’ve been sick with a plague of some sort. What started as a raspy cough and burning in the chest before Thanksgiving turned into an awful infection in my head. TG for medicine that controls coughing, inflammation, and pain. My husband took me to the doctor yesterday and I feel miraculously better today. They gave me a cortisone shot I think must have been the life saver. I took the first walk I’ve had in 4 days this morning. Shudder.

Now I need to catch up, but I can see from this page alone that you all are keeping up the moving. Nice running fireandrain, abasket, mowc, sabaray. I hope everyone else is staying well.

Does anyone here drink/eat kefir? My chef sister gave me some kefir grains I’ve been using to ferment milk into a yogurt-like slightly thickened drink. You put the grains in maybe a cup of milk, let it ferment overnight at room temp, and then strain off the grains (to use for the next batch) and use the product. I’ve been adding it to chocolate milk or soy nog for a secondary fermentation, which gives a slightly tangy/frothy version. I’m liking it.

So sorry you got that sick, PlantMom! It sounds like it really got you! Glad the shot and meds are helping. I haven’t tried Kefir. I’m too busy eating mini-Milky Ways in the office. Boo.

I like kefir but my kefir comes from a carton at the grocery store. I also like lassi that I get in little tiny containers. The grains sound very interesting, PlantMom! Hope you are experiencing continued improvement healthwise - don’t rush back into exercising. Give your respiratory system time to recover - that sounds positively dreadful!

Oh, MOWC, I just love your sense of humor…“I’m too busy eating mini-Milky Ways in the office.” - thanks for making me laugh!

Plantmom, sounds just awful! But sounds like a trip to the doc was the right remedy.

I have not had kefir either - I feel like I’ve seen it mixed with other stuff at the store? Or is there a famous brand “Kefir”?? What are suppose to be the advantages?

I wonder how the 5-2 diet would work if you ate only Milky Ways 2 days a week but kept the calories down?

Give me a moment to eat a few Twix and I’ll get back to you on that…

I really like Wallaby kefir but can’t always find it in my area. It’s almost like drinkable yogurt - high in protein and probiotics. Yes, I’d rather have a milkshake but kefir is good for your gut if you’re like me and have digestive issues. Lifeway kefir is another brand I see pretty frequently. Please, if it’s loaded with sugar no one tell me!
