Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

C3B- Glad you are pain free! I would hate to be on a 10 pm conference call! I can’t imagine I would even make sense! I’ve had international operations before, though, and know that is part of the deal!

CD- way to go on the 5 pounds! Virtual lights and bells for you!

Sabaray- way to get out there! We are supposed to have a snowflake or two later, so the city is in turmoil. Right now it is cold and grey.

We have had four days of wickedly cold weather and this morning I really did NOT want to run. NOT NOT NOT. (Imagine me stamping my feet.) I made the decision that I would put on my fleece running tights and a sweater and then decide… and I did end up running, a little more than three miles, in 19 degrees (F), with ice on the reservoir at the park. I made the dog wear a sweater, too; he wasn’t thrilled about that but he didn’t seem to mind the cold, either. The good news is that it wasn’t anywhere near as windy as it’s been the last few days. I really hate the wind.

I’m with you, dmd, I don’t mind the cold, but wind is my worst nightmare (unless it’s at my back!! )

Well I’ve been a wimp. No running or anything outside. The high today was 6, feels like -10.

My persistence with lululemon paid off. After having my order cancelled twice, I ordered another pullover and this one shipped. Lululemon’s order system was annoying.

Finally feeling better; my cold symptoms are mostly gone. I kept to the yoga/meditation challenge–did yoga on my own yesterday and went to a power yoga class today. I am finding the meditation part of the challenge to be difficult. I have trouble clearing my head!

Just noticed that an Orange Theory place is opening near me in February–will have to try it in honor of PG.

BB: hope you are on the mend! Congrats on your 5 pounds, CD.

Pretty snow outside, but I stuck with the treadmill. Snow around here comes with ice, frequently. This weekend is going to be challenging. I wanted to ramp back up to longer runs, but not sure I can stand 8 miles on the treadmill.

8 miles on the treadmill would be too much for me. We didn’t get much snow, but today is a “no run” day for me - Pilates with my trainer this morning which went really well - now that my mileage is lower and I’m doing more cross training my hamstring issue is really almost resolved. Did some assisted stretching at the end which always helps too.

Great job on the five pounds, @CountingDown! As promised, a light up tiara for you!

Wow – I want one of those! Pretty nice! Good job, Counting Down!

Haven’t done much outside this week (which means I haven’t run at all). 10K tomorrow. 23 degrees is supposed to be the high temp at 8 am. Not sure what to wear (2 layers or 3). It’s the half hour standing around before the start I’m worried about.

Thanks, sabaray! My body seems to be adjusting to the resumed plan. Now the test will be to see if I can get through the weekend with DH and S2 home.

Spin class because too cold to swim outside. Gotta be flexible!

I just had to do it. Went out at noon (from the house since we all bailed on work right after I got there) for a 2 mile run in the snow. I stuck to the snowy parts of the road and not in car tracks so I didn’t slip. It was very cold and my feet got cold, but it was fun. Slow going. No cars are out since a lot of them already wrecked this morning. For once, this snow was “under-forecasted” and got bad right as and after morning rush hour. I made it to work only to turn around and come home before more of the crazies got out on the roads. Wrecks everywhere. I was fine with 4 wheel drive and drove a freaking out co-worker home, too. Welcome to snow in the south. Seriously- we don’t have the plows and salt trucks to handle it, it’s hilly and it is simply hazardous to drive.

Hot yoga and a short walk (2 miles). We lost power this morning, which was annoying. Couldn’t take a shower, which is why I went out and walked after yoga.

XC skiing 5 degrees out. A balmy 11 when I finished lol! No wind though. I think I went for about an hour and 15. I forgot to notice what the time was when I left.

People sometimes ask about what to wear when it’s this cold. I wasn’t running so dressed warmer than I would for that. I was never cold and never over warm either.

Wicking tank, ua cold weather crew neck shirt, polartec fleece http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/91338?feat=pprv.
Smartwool sock, long underwear, XC ski pants http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/47318?feat=xc%20pants-SR0&page=women-s-sporthill-xc-pants&attrValue_0=Black&productId=827194.

North face thermoball jacket. Mittens, which I took off half way and put running gloves on. Hat with turtle fur lining and neck gaiter http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/65592?page=adults-polartec-power-dry-neck-gaiter?feat=97-512918-512920-513945-cprrtop.

Anyways that is what I wear in this weather. I was very comfortable. I don’t really like to freeze starting out although I think that is what a lot of advice is. The pants are new and are pretty roomy, I wouldn’t run in them but walking or snowshoeing they would be great.

Also fat tire bikes are becoming so popular. Fat tire trails are popping up everywhere

Good job yall dealing with frigid cold, jeez, I thought my garage was cold!

I have been sticking to 30 mins on Stairmaster, still drudgery but noticed a 2.5lb weight loss now whereas, I had plateaud for past 3 weeks. Still having trouble with diet, lost appetite though I forced myself to have a late lunch, but almost tossed my cookies after my workout. Note to self, don’t eat late lunch prior to working out, blech.

It is cold here also, but sunny so it looks very pretty with the sun sparkling in the snow. Today will just be walking, but that’s OK. I am in the same boat with MOWC as I am planning to ramp up to longer runs this weekend but the snow and cold makes it challenging. The trail is plowed, but it has a thin layer of packed snow from the plow that can turn icy. Santa brought some YakTrax so they may see their first use tomorrow!

SalveMater - eating before working out is never a good idea! I hope you are feeling better.

I love CD’s pretty tiara!

deb922 - thanks for the info on what you wear and the links - very helpful. I have a similar LLBean Polartec fleece jacket that I got a couple years ago. I think many of us bought them that year! I love it and get lots of use out of it in the winter.

Just filled a 55 gallon drum of tears

^^^ Very nice!

Beautifully done! Sniff…

Gong to the beach. It is unseasonably cold here, too. Only 75 degrees expected later today. I just read that swimming in a pool or ocean is OK 2 days post my kind of surgery, but Mr. is not convinced. He says he will pack me up and ship back home if I try to rebell.

I think we should share the tiara with everyone who meets personal milestones and/or five pound parties!

I am SOO jealous of anyone talking beach right now!!!

About to do some yoga at home. Have to do something to warm my feet up it’s so cold!
