ohiopublic – you are one fast runner! I could never do that pace, indoors or out!
bromfield – I love the idea of a yoga/meditation challenge. I started doing TM about a year ago and when I remember to meditate, it really settles me down.
SalveMater – you are doing great! 10 minutes is all I could ever handle on that machine. You go girl!
Waving hello to all from sunny, but very cool and windy, FL! Our road trip down here from New England went very well – the pup did well and we were ahead of the big snowstorm in GA & VA. We changed our itinerary by a day to make sure we didn’t get stuck in said storm, so missed out on touring Monticello. But, we called them and discovered we can use our already purchased tickets on the way back north in February. And, the condo we’re renting here was available to us a day early, so it all worked out.
Haven’t run for a couple weeks, but have been walking lots. Plus, we brought our bikes and golf clubs with us. May check out Pilates or yoga while we’re here – I feel as if I need to be doing more stretching.
MOWC - I wasn’t t paying attention. I’m usually running at 5:00 pace when I hit the stop button and I walked off to find a spray bottle/towel to wipe off the treadmill. Usually the belt has stopped when I go back to wipe it off. I didn’t realize the belt was still moving and when I stepped on I wiped out! Pretty embarrassing. I have fell off the back before and that was equally embarassing.
Ouch, Ohio!! I wiped out once - stupid cat… I probably had a hairline fracture in my big toe because it hurt for a while while I was running.
Walked to the restaurant last night, about 2.5 miles. On the way back, kiddo started to whine and ended up calling Uber. We got to the hotel and then decided to go for another walk while kiddo watched TV.
Just saw on Twitter that there is a bomb treat at my daughter’s gym (JCC) and others in the country. She isn’t there, fortunately. What is happening to our world?
We also are going from single digits to 70s in the span of a week. (Tennessee)
Take care Ohio. My dad fell off of a treadmill last summer and broke his kneecap. I am actually surprised that some gyms allow young children. The ones in my development which are owned by the homeowners association do not. I believe no one under 16 is allowed in. I agree with that.
Speaking of treadmills, I tried the shorts today. Ran 3 miles and the shorts were great, they did not ride up at all. It was cold though, even in my basement!
I just registered for my first marathon since 2013- Hatfield and McCoy in West Virginia on June 10. What have I done??? Hot and hilly, but supposed to be a really fun event.
@FallGirl my shorts package arrived just as I was leaving the house to go out of town earlier this afternoon - I’ll be at least trying them on tomorrow!
Where’s the marathon MOWC? “Fun Event” is always good!
A cautionary tale. On Friday night, a friend of mine for 36 years, at the age of 65, dropped dead from a burst aortic aneurysm. In his youth and early adult years, he had been an extremely fit nationally ranked pairs roller skater. In his later adult years, he had fallen off the fitness bandwagon for a while but for the last year had been returning to fitness. During his non-fitness period, he had been a smoker but had quit for many years as of the time of his death. All of his recent check-ups were excellent, with healthy blood pressure and blood chemistry. One moment he was here, the next he was gone.
Aortic aneurysms are symptomless. There is no telling sign. They are a silent killer. But they can be detected by a simple, non-invasive 15 minute abdominal ultrasound. Please, please take the time to have this test done as part of a routine physical. While you are at it, have a carotid ultrasound done to check the primary locations where blockages and clots can lead to strokes. In addition, when you lift weights, please fully exhale on the positive (concentric) contraction and inhale fully on the negative (eccentric). Holding your breath or even just not breathing fully when lifting is a prime way to cause your blood pressure to soar thereby putting any weak spots in major blood vessels at risk, particularly your aorta. Guys over 40 can be particularly at risk when doing bench presses.
