Apparently we had torrential rains today but I was so tied to my desk in my windowless office (and missing some hours of steps…dang it) and the temps really dropped - back into the mid 30’s. But not raining when I got home so a 2.5 mile walk to burn off a little energy and secure my step count + for the day.
It’s all about the fashion. Just be glad most of you are runners and not cyclists. You think color coordinating your tops, bottoms, shoes and socks is tough? Just try including water bottles, helmets, gloves, sunglasses and having it all coordinate with your bike!
I love yoga tops but find that I buy a lot of black for running. Realized that I ran the last 2 5Ks wearing all black and dark sunglasses. I have to intimidate the competition somehow and at this point my speed won’t do it
Ran 3.4 miles the morning; gorgeous, cool and sunny. Later we walked into the village to buy fresh fish for dinner. I’m not really a fan of white fish, but I know it’s healthy. (It’s not that it tastes bad to me; it’s just tasteless.) I weighed myself right before we left to come down here – and won’t get on a scale until we get back. I should definitely weigh less then.
We’re renting in a 32 unit condo development. Today at sundown a woman from across the way brought out her bagpipes and played on the beach while the sun was setting. Very cool!
@MichaelNKat – my DH was given a pair of bright blue cycling shoes by one of our suppliers (they match his eyes!) … so he needed new gloves, jersey, socks… have you seen The Rules? http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/
@dmd77, what a great read! Some hysterically funny, some so on point. Thanks for the link!
Still walking in the cold. I definitely don’t look cute in my layers and bundles!
Icy trails and unplowed paths are the worst part of this new adventure and the best is getting to my lowest weight in three years!
kmc…how are you doing in the cold? Still swimming or are you attacking the snowy hill yet?
3.67 miles on the treadmill this AM. Really looking forward to my days off next week so that I can run outside.
We have a few newcomers to the thread. How are you all doing?
@NorthMinnesota I think so highly of you for your dedication in those conditions! I’m serious - you embrace winter - something I have a very hard time doing.
The week ahead forecast currently looks quite mild for January with no snow in the forecast - I couldn’t be more thrilled to get another week in January to be able to be outside - even if it’s between rainstorms!
NMinn- Congratulations on the low weight! Do we need a party for you?
It is just SO hard to get out in the dark, damp cold. I stayed in bed until I only had time to dash downstairs for 2 miles on the belt. Today was supposed to be a light day anyway since I’m trying to do a 10 miler tomorrow.
Cold and dark here, too. People are bundling up and complaining about the weather. Walking in sub-freezing cold - I am impressed with everyone’s dedication!
I am so amazed by everyone’s ability to stay motivated in those frigid climes. I am in SoCal and I was so dang cold last night that after doing a few planks and crunchies, I turned in…but not before having a cheese enchilada
Good grief, I’m scared to weight in today. Congratulations to those making progress and keep posting your progress it’s motivating!
If you are cold - and you then exercise - you will NOT be cold after a few minutes - nature’s “natural” heater.
I know you’re right @abasket, I guess I was still feelin’ blue about my boy leaving for China and I know, I know, exercise releases endorphins. Which reminds me of the line from Legally Blonde where Elle says, ‘Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands!’
@SalveMater – I was just watching that movie the other night – so funny (and so true – I exercise, and I’ve never shot my husband. Yet.)
Well - I’ve made it through the week with a couple 3 mile treadmill runs, some strength work, and a bunch of walks. I think I’ve gotten rid of the 3 or so pounds that crept back over the holidays - not bad considering I’ve been cooped up in the office working 12-14 hour days (again…the life of an accountant in January). Take out every night. I’m craving…a piece of grilled chicken and a green salad…
A nice 3 mile run this morning with Back on My Feet. We have an ice storm in the forecast for this weekend. I am hoping that I’m able to get a good run in tomorrow morning - we were scheduled to run a half marathon in late December that was cancelled due to the cold temps/wind and we’re on our honor to do it virtually by the end of January. I want to get it out of the way tomorrow morning. The weather on the weekends (and being sick) has kept me from getting it done until now. So hoping that the freezing rain doesn’t materialize until later in the day tomorrow.
SalveMater - I hope you’re feeling better about your son being in China. I think he should have arrived by now? Have you talked to him yet? The time zone difference can be a real pain!
abasket - you are so right about exercise being nature’s “heater”. I get in trouble with the standing around at the end of a run in the cold. When I’ve gotten sweaty and it is cold/windy, I start to get super chilled. It’s not a problem running on my own at home, but after a race it can be awful to stand around afterwards.
I absolutely CAN’T stand around in sweaty clothes after a race unless it’s summer! I take off my stuff as soon as I possibly can (especially damp sports bra)- even if it means hiding in the back seat of my car to do so. If I get really chilled after a run, it’s very hard for me to warm up.
@C3Baker Yes, he arrived safely to HK and stayed there overnight then headed onto Shanghai where he landed yesterday, I guess? The time diff is so odd. The whole thing of him being on another continent is odd and awkward for communications. He says it’s amazing to be abroad and “never wants to come back” : /
Swim and run. I played with pace on the run, trying to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Same on the swim, but that is because the coach made me.
