Work fitness center after work. 3 miles on the track and some rowing time. They got new rowing machines - this is a BIGGGG deal! Now I have a read out that actually tells me something!

I need to look up some info to set some goals. The new machines will tell me # of row repetitions, meters, pace/500meters, etc.

Funny and nice moment. I have mentioned before that sometimes when I go to my work fitness center in later afternoon there is a cardio rehab group there. Today many of them were doing laps on the track in the walking lane. No problem! I stayed in the run lane to give them plenty of room. When I finally finished and was walking around the track to cool down a bit when I came around the area that the cardio people were sort of hanging out taking their vitals and things. All of a sudden a few of them started clapping! Now keep in mind that many of the people working out here are university and medical students - so I am plenty on the “older side”! Well, one guy came up to me and said, “you are amazing - we were watching you - how wonderful that you stay in shape - you looked fabulous out there!” Now, it’s ME - I am no track star as you know! But it was heart warming that they noticed I was NOT 25, but I could circle that track and keep composure. It’s the little things!

A climbing workout. I needed to meet a friend and have a conversation. We chose the gym and had it there.

That is great, abasket! I’m glad you got the kudos. You deserve them!

Abasket, that must have felt so gratifying! It’s great to have your hard work recognized.

I did put up a similar post but with more detail on the Peloton Facebook page. Got zero responses and I think the post was deleted. Oh well.

BTW, is there a Peloton CC thread??

Hey MnK – yes there was – on Page 1 – but when I looked for it, couldn’t find it. Did a google search and found it: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1959728-peloton.html

Last week was a blur. Way too much work, way too little sleep. I was able to run in Jerusalem a couple times and got 5 miles in each time. It was a tough trip and I am still trying to recover. I am behind on my training miles and this isn’t going to be a good week. I have a 10K on Saturday but it’s a low-key local race.

Bunsen - congratulations on getting the house! It is great that you will be able to have both houses for a period of time and make the repairs/updates you need to do without the time pressure of a sell and move deadline. I am really happy for you that your commute is going to be so much better. Hooray for your easy trail access - that is such a great thing! We live 1/4 mile from a running/biking trail and I am on it every single day. I don’t think I could ever live anywhere again that doesn’t have easy trail access.

When is @busdriver11 's Half Marathon? I hope those blisters have been kept at bay!

Abasket - nice job at the gym. It’s great that your efforts were noticed!

abasket – I would have loved to get that kind of recognition – you go girl!

C3Baker – thanks for remembering busdriver’s half! Good luck, bus, whenever it is. I feel like we need a shared race schedule. Good luck on your 10k. Low key and local is always good. It’s hard enough to do the whole thing.

I’ve got a 4M race on Sunday. Get this – the first part is seeing how far you can throw a football (since it is Superbowl Sunday). I think I’m going to skip that part. I don’t want to make everyone laugh hysterically…

Every time you are out exercising, instead of feeling your inadequacies, take note that any person you pass by (or who passes by you) you may be inspiring. It’s unlikely that anyone looking at you is saying “he/she should go faster!” “Look at that awful form!” “Wow, they should just stay home on the couch…” - said no one ever!!!

I’ve found a partial solution to my “sometimes” new work place and getting in my hourly steps. My office area is on the 7th floor. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon I walk down all 7 floors of steps - and back up again. When I get to our floor I pause in the stairwell to stop panting and then put on my “refreshed” face and head back to work.

Thanks, @C3Baker! We are not there yet. Still need to do a couple of inspections… Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi all! Our visitors left this morning. We always have so much fun when we’re together. It’s been a little on the cool side the last several days, so no sitting on the beach, but lots of walking. We started talking about our next trip with them – in October, AFTER D’s wedding. Probably Sicily and ???

H has to fly from FL to NH this evening for a meeting tomorrow; he’ll be back on Thursday. Me? I’ll be on the beach. Yup, tough duty!

anytime someone passes me I tell myself that I should be home on the couch!

When I start to worry about someone thinking I am running really slowly, I tell myself, “They don’t have a watch on me. They don’t know what pace I’m running.”

Today a little outside run and the crazy gym workout class to follow. Everything else about the day has felt out of control.

And they also don’t know how much mileage you have already covered! I once ran a long run (18 miler) and passed a guy at mile 16 or so; turned around shortly after that for my final 2 miles back to the park. The guy saw me and said something snarky along the lines, “well I see you gave up already! Should not have started so fast.” I told him that I was finishing my 18-miler with 2 miles to go. He shut up.

@Lizardly - at least your workout is under control. Great job.

In my early running years in Dallas I had a friend who was an ultra-marathoner before ultras were as much of a “thing”. He was an odd duck. One evening he was running at White Rock Lake (the main place for runners in Dallas) and some unruly teens were hassling him from a car. He thumped on the hood of the car and one of the kids got out and was going to chase him. My friend said, “If you are going to run me down, I hope you are prepared to go 50 miles!” The kid gave up.

Went to the doctor yesterday for my yearly checkup and got a flu shot. Had one last year and no problems. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case this time. I started coughing on the way home and got the sniffles by late afternoon I was aching and feeling awful. Went to bed at 9 pm. Got up at 8:30 am (I never sleep beyond 6:30); I started feeling better through the day. Coughing in gone, but I still feel achy. Emailed the doc–she said that coughing and sniffles were a fairly common reaction. Going to try and do restorative yoga tonight.

Love that story, @MomofWildChild !

Hope the flu shot will help you stay healthy, @Bromfield2. My boss was out for 2 weeks with a really bad case of flu. Was too busy to get a shot. :frowning:

More skiing today! And it’s snowing!

Deb, you are clearly the right person to live up north - you embrace the snow! I just can’t do it…

2+ purposeful walk in drizzle/snow showers! It can’t get anymore dark and gloomy! Then again, the 1-2 inches of snow this morning fully melted!
