Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Ready for the weekend. Our weather (and I’m guessing others too) is suppose to be totally unseasonable and totally wonderful - in the 60’s - in the 50’s and 60’s all next week! Looking forward to exercise time, leisurely outside time, heck I’ll even pick up sticks in the yard! MAYBE a bike ride!

Looks like our weather will be in the 50s for the weekend. I’ll take it! Planning about a 10-11 mile run Saturday morning.

It’s supposed to be near 70 both Saturday and Sunday here. I’m only planning a short 3 miles tomorrow.

Went to a Pilates mat class this morning. Really had to focus on each exercise - the instructor was great at offering modifications but thankfully I didn’t need to use them which honestly surprised me.

The important question, sabaray, is how are your bright new Lulu tights working out?

3.1 miles for me this morning and that’s it for today. My legs are really tired.

Those tights are awesome and so comfortable- the higher waistband in that fabric is ideal for Pilates. I’ve decided anything tagged “naked sensation” is perfect for Pilates. Waistband stays put and no rolling or slippage.

I need to check the lulu store to get another pair of leggings to wear as tights under dresses. So comfy.

I got home late last night and am so glad that the weekend is almost here. No exercise yesterday and an all-time low step count since I spent my day trapped in meetings then driving 6 hours to get home. Today is better with a 3.5 mile run this morning with Back on My Feet. One of our new members was really funny this morning. After they join the program and complete a couple weeks of runs (3x per week) with perfect attendance, new members get a free pair of running shoes. The guy who runs the local running store downtown is an amazing man and does a great job fitting the members with the right shoes - he opens the store early the day they do the fittings and takes a lot of time to make sure that they get the right pair of shoes. Anyway, one of our newer members got his shoes on Monday. He was like a little kid with a new pair of sneakers this morning - he was going around showing everybody his new shoes and was so excited about how great they feel. He’s sure he’s going to have an amazing race tomorrow in the 5K!

My eating this week was terrible. I do not eat well when I am traveling. End of story.

MNK - so glad to hear that your dad is doing better. I hope your mom is dealing with everything OK. It is hard on the spouse.

Tomorrow is the Polar Bear Run. The weather is not typical Polar Bear weather, but no complaints from me. I’m entered in the Bear, which is running the 5K followed by running the 5 mile race. Last year I did really well on the 5K but then struggled towards the end of the 5 mile race. Hopefully I will do better with pacing tomorrow.

I remember you doing that, C3B. It sounds hard.

Good luck in the Polar Bear race, C3B. I love the story reading about how excited that man was with his new running shoes.

Found out that my fitness talking at work has resulted in 2 people starting yoga practices and one who might sign up for the walk/run training program that I do. That made me feel really good.

Finally saw the ortho today and concluded it’s the meniscus. Whether or not it’s torn is still up for debate. He gave me a cortisone shot and decide to drain the knee. It was all blood – he pulled about 100 ml. We’ll see what happens over the next two weeks, and if it’s still bothering me, he’ll scope it. We now know this was caused by trauma from the accident, though.

This was exactly what my internist thought two weeks ago when he saw me five days post-accident – blood in the joint. While he’s not an ortho, he has run marathons and done a number of cross-country rides. He also had two hip replacements in his late 40s. He may not be an ortho, but he thinks like one!

Now I need to reach the internist to see if we dare tinker with my warfarin/plavix/aspirin regimen. I am REALLY po’d that LabCorp somehow lost the blood they drew for my INR test (clotting) on Feb. 3rd. Would have been nice to know that number!

Oh goodness CD! 100 mL. Yikes that is quite a swelling. Fingers crossed for you.

FallGirl - that’s awesome that your leading by example has gotten co-workers engaged in fitness!

CD - ouch! I hope draining the knee helped, it sounds kind of awful.

C3B, good luck at the race!

So wonderful that we are having record warmth and I have been able to get out and hike on trails that have been covered with ice. Walked 5.5 miles yesterday. Heading out again today to get some miles in and some sun on my face!

It was raining this morning so I replanned my weekend runs! Will do the longer run tomorrow and headed downstairs to the treadmill for 3.6 while I watched Grey’s Anatomy. I just didn’t want to go out in the rain. My daughter did 13.4 in the rain, so she’s tougher than I am! (She also doesn’t have the Sunday option, being a priest and all… )

There’s a good article in today’s WSJ about different spin classes and Zwift that the author tried. It’s the lead article in the Off Duty section. Maybe you can find it online. It’s a pretty good read. Boy- those classes are EXPENSIVE!!!

Zumba and a swim. I struggle with lateral movement and hopping on one leg, so I think of Zumba as PT.

My son just had a really bad bike wreck. 40 mph. No car involved. He thinks he’s ok but is in an ambulance. Bike ruined. That’s all I know. He seemed in shock. I hate bicycles. I know one of my family members will be killed on a bike.

MOWC oh no! So sorry, and I agree that bikes are scary

I’ll be thinking of you and WC.

They are going to do a scan since he hit his head so hard. He was with a friend, fortunately. Going to Allentown Hospital. He’s in severe shock. His tri bike is ruined.
