Hey, does anyone have a good, healthy Whey Protein powder they can recommend for my husband? He’s looking for something to have after a tough workout.
I am on the west coast and have never heard of Portos.
I hope you are not starving yourself, Salve. When I am not hungry, a small piece of a pastry woul be enough for me to satisfy my curiousity. When I am seriously starving, all bets can be off, so I make sure my belly is filled with something that is not junk. Anyway, kudos for posting. I know that when I post, it improves my accountability.
Yoga class (slow flow) and 3 mile walk–snow cleared off roads so it was much easier walking outside.
Bus - does he need a ready to make shake (just add liquid) kind or is he looking for unadulterated with anything else whey protein?
I personally hate any flavors or sweeteners used in protein powders, so I buy pure stuff and add it to my own shakes when I feel the need for a shake:

I think he’s looking to make a shake, something that doesn’t have a bunch of crap in it, with whey protein.
Paging @MichaelNKat - our resident nutritionist!
I think he recommended some mixes a while ago.
Thanks Bunsen, just texted that to him!
@SalveMater, I looked up Portos and that is something I would have a hard time with as well. Sometimes you just have to resist that first bite - certain foods for me are a trigger. If I take one bite of a donut, I’m going to eat the entire thing. If there are more donuts available, I’m going to eat those too and then go buy some more and eat so many of them I feel ill (this last part was a bit of an exaggeration, I’m not really going to go buy more). Resisting that first bite feels a lot better! Eating sugar makes you want more sugar. Don’t do it!
This has been a good week for me as far as getting back to the regular workouts, but a bad week as far as sugar. I generally eat a decent diet (loving fruit and veggies helps) , but I do have a sweet tooth. There was a baby shower at work this week (not for me, LOL), with cake and then Valentine cupcakes. The Girl Scout cookies I forget that I had ordered came in and there is candy in the house… I am one of those folks who can not eat just a bite of sweets. If I start I want more.
So I really need to stop eating sugar. But yeah, it’s hard.
Bus–I use SP Whey Protein Complete–have a shake for breakfast every day. I add berries and almond milk. SP products don’t have many additives.

@BunsenBurner do yourself a favor and stay away from Portos. It’s an LA bakery that gets my heart with their flakey pastries filled with creamcheese, and their guava and apple tarts - fuhgetaboutit. I have been so good, but Portos is that one pastry that’s in it’s own rarified air for me.
Also, have not starving myself, working out for an hour nightly did the trick to amp up my appetitie. Just in time for Portos.
Thanks, Bromfield! Will pass that on.
@busdriver11 – I like the taste of the Bob’s Red Mill protein powder (which is vegan), and it mixes well with all kinds of milks. I also use Blubonnet Whey Protein (original, no stevia or any kind of sweetener at all).
Has anyone tried Aussie bites? Are they healthy for you? I have heard they are available at Costco.
Organic
• 270mg of Omega-3, 2g of Fiber, Zero Trans Fats per serving.
• Rolled Oats, Dried Apricots, Flax Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Honey, Coconut, Quinoa, Chia Seeds + More!
^^^I’ve had them. They are good. But they are small and pack a lot of calories. So just be sure you know that before you take a handful of them.
“There are 130 calories in a 1 cookie serving of Costco Aussie Bites. Calorie breakdown: 48% fat, 46% carbs, 6% protein.”
130 might not seem like a lot but figure out if you can eat just one - cause they are small!
I have been going in so many directions, I’ve been missing out on virtually everything going on here.
Just real quick @busdriver11, on the question of protein powder. Unless you are vegan or have an intolerance for whey, I personally recommend Biochem Whey protein. Very pure, US sourced ingredients. I make shakes from 1%organic milk, 2 scoops of the whey, strawberries, blueberries, banana and organic peanut butter. So good!
@MichaelNKat I hope your dad is doing ok
Thank you @deb922. Things have stabilized and he’s at home with my mom, in a routine that includes PT, OT, some socializing, some riding their stationary recumbent. Some good days, some challenging days, but certainly better than where we were before!
Glad to hear that, Michael.
That’s good, Michael. It’s hard…
