Also, Deb but you did 1.5 miles. Maybe in another month it will be 2. No matter. You’re off your buns - that’s what counts. You know you can find your comfort again if you want to. Or you can keep walking, skiing, - whatever.
Sometimes I feel bad when I walk instead of run. That’s silly. I can run an 11 minute mile or I can walk a 14 minute mile. Really not that much difference! I’m sweating both ways!
What color Outback did you get?
Thanks @abasket, everyone is so kind here. I got red with the black interior. I’m too messy for a light interior. I’m super happy with my choice.
I have trouble even walking in flip flops. I catch the front of them.
Congrats, deb. Love your color choice. We have a car with beige seats, and I am sick of cleaning them.
I’m a sucker for the red and green Outback. I REALLY love the green but ended up with a Forester so have the green in that - but it’s not quite as deep of a green.
Getting back to the subject of bras… There is such thing called “johger’s breast.”
It was written about me 8 years ago. I decided to get back into shape by running. It really, really hurt to run even at slow speeds with my 36D chest without proper packaging. I almost gave up - until I saw the coolest bra called Shock Absorber at our Victoria Secret store. It was a game changer for me.
Point well made salary. I apologize for my comments on this young woman’s appearance. I was trying to convey (and apparently didn’t) was how incongruous it was to see someone run in a string bikini top. I think all of us (based on comments I’ve read here) wear sports bras for running, regardless of weight, simply to support our breasts while exercising. Plus the flip flops just made my feet hurt to see, but as I said later, she was keeping up a good pace. More power to her.
Damn iPhone. “Jogger’s breast”.
Just to be clear, I don’t think it’s a good idea to run in flip flops or a string bikini top.
I appreciate you acknowledging my concern, C2015. I find that young woman’s attire unusual as well, but I didn’t think it was necessary to add that she wasn’t thin. I’ve seen grossly overweight men running in Speedos. Unconventional, but it works for them.
What works for one person is not going to work for every person. I trip over Hokas. The Tarahumara Indians wear sandals over rough, rocky trails that most of us wouldn’t even attempt. People run barefoot. Extremes, yes. But it works for them.
Bunsen, I wish I could buy a bra at VS. I’ve never had luck with their sizing or styles. Both D and I would be very happy to be a 36D. At this point surgery would be required to achieve that.
I totally get it. One of those posts I thought about after and wondered if I needed that comment to make my point. I think the “edit” feature should be extended as needed.
You have created a great long lived thread that has a warmth and respect for all, regardless of where we are on our respective weight loss or fitness journey. I’m glad you said something.
@deb922 - is the “eyesight” feature on the Subaru the one that brakes for you if you’re about to hit something? I can see where that might be something that should have all the bugs worked out … My SUV has a back-up camera, which is a godsend, and front and rear sensors that are incredibly useful for all the parallel parking I do here in the city.
My reaction to someone running in flip-flops was one of “No way could I do that!” My feet get trashed enough in running shoes, plus I’m sure I’d trip.
Walked to the hair salon, grocery store, & drugstore. Tomorrow it’s back to the gym. Oh, in case you’re all in a state of suspense wondering about my choice of activity trackers, (you are, right?), I ordered the Fitbit Charge 2 with my 25% off coupon. I just couldn’t deal with giving up my Fitbit friends!
I didn’t get the extended warranty through them, though – I found out, from reading Fitbit Forums, that I can get the same coverage for less $ by buying it directly from SquareTrade. I have 30 days after the purchase of the Fitbit to sign up. I should get the Fitbit in a couple of days. There may be other color bands in my future …

I don’t shop at the present VS. That was VS back in 2007 or 2008 when they actually sold real bras, LOL. It is all relative to the person’s overall height - I am just an inch over “petite,” so it was very painful for me to carry even that size around. Free weights is what helps to keep the bulge at the top in check for me.
I wouldn’t run in flip flops and a string bikini top for a host of reasons, mostly having to do with support, but wouldn’t begrudge someone else the chance to do it if it made her happy. Recently I watched some young girls in bikinis jump off a high platform into the ocean and my thought was “they are going to lose their tops on impact.” If they did, they recovered quickly. I remember jumping off the high dive when I was a girl and having to make sure I was covered up before I got out of the water.
Taking this topic sideways, but I will wear a bikini on vacation but never at home. What does that say about me? I will inflict my glaringly white belly on strangers but not friends? Part of my choice is that we go places where less than perfect bodies wear little clothing. It emboldens me. People here are too judgey.
The last two days have been lousy for exercise. Thunderstorms so no swimming and I am getting plantar fasciitis in one foot, so not running. Spending my extra time eating.
LOL, I recall the summer when kiddo and her tween teammates all decided to get some tan and showed up at a swim practice wearing 2-piece suits. The coach looked at them and said, “OK, ladies, today we are going to practice our dive starts and relay exchanges because it looks like you want to enjoy being out of the water!” Kids were terrified. The coach was kidding, of course, and they swam their usual mileage.
My recent surgery left me with a dark spot in the middle of the belly - bad reaction to the bandaid glue. I fully intend on wearing my bikini on the beach the next time we get the opportunity to get out of the rain capital of the world.
Bunsen- We used to swim in 2 piece workout suits at Masters workouts in Dallas. I loved them! They were Speedos and TYR, but 2 pieces and did stay put!
There was a guy in Dallas back in the early 80s who ran long distances in a Speedo. We thought it was very unusual and we still talk about him when we see someone not in a triathlon running in something very skimpy. But- sabaray is right. No body shaming here. I like the #sportsbrasummer movement that we had last summer with the heat!
Great discussion. There are setbacks and struggles not only in exercise, weight, food - but also clothing. I recently found a Saucony bra at TJMaxx that is AMAZING for me. You can be sure that I will go in every tj maxx I see and scoop up any of them I see!
I sometimes wonder if people “enter” this thread thinking we are all slim and perfectly fit beings. I can say for sure I am not. I have made progress over the years, but the saddlebags still hang on the legs somewhat and the middle remains somewhat flabby. But it doesn’t stop me, it isn’t my measurement of success .
With that, out for some later afternoon exercise! I have some stress I need to exercise off!
A friend of my daughter’s has run ultras in thong sandals, the kind with thin leather soles. I couldn’t walk in them for ten minutes, but they work for him. He’s slightly notorious in the local running community for it.
I have not worn a bra, sports or otherwise, since 1968, when I saw the Miss America contestants burning theirs (except during the period when I was nursing and my breasts absolutely ballooned in size). That notorious feminist incident was the first time in my life that it occurred to me that a bra was not a requirement. I was 14. I hated bras then and I continue to hate them now–they make me feel like I’m being slowly strangled by a fairly weak boa constrictor. It’s not a matter of fit, as I have been fitted by specialists several times. I am not well-endowed or I might be uncomfortable when running–but I am just fine. I do wear a snug undershirt or tank top.
While I see my choice of undergarments as a matter of irrelevance to any one else in the entire world, I am continually surprised by the number of people who take it on themselves to advise me that I should be wearing a bra. I’m not sure why it’s such a hot button for so many people.
Sorry for offending anyone with my post about bras.
OK, it sounds like it is time for me to sign off the thread and maybe CC completely…
I don’t think you offended anyone at all! Most women wear bras, and in my running groups it is ALWAYS a topic and a struggle for those women who are hard to fit or have a lot of chafing. Some women really hate the uni-boob look and others just want compression and don’t really care what it all winds up looking like. Not to mention that the getting the things on and off can be a real struggle!
Don’t leave us!!!
