74 today. Wind chills in the teens tomorrow. Gotta smile at that!
30 minute run this afternoon in short and tshirt - not sure when I’ll be doing that again!
D2 arrived home for spring break - there will be more food around - I made a sour cream chocolate cake to get the party started today! I’ll be good when I can and enjoy within reason. Look forward to having her home for the week!
Spent much longer than I had hoped/planned sitting in the very nice waiting room at my car dealer this morning. I needed the state inspection done, and figured I’d be OK since it wasn’t even the last day of the month. I guess lots of other people had the same idea … At least I got a carwash out of it, plus a cup of yummy yogurt with fruit that ended up being my breakfast.
More walking around various stores today, followed by a l-e-n-g-t-h-y pup walk to make sure I got my steps in. I’ve now tried 4 camera stores, and none of them have in stock the one I want to see in person. Grrrr. I guess I’ll have to order it online, and return it if I don’t like it. Research about various features and functions is one thing, but I want to hold the thing in my hands.
Hi all! Had to slog through 84 (?) posts to get to this point. I thought I would check in so you would not think I had a temper tantrum, lol. When accusations of body shaming and anti-feminism started flying around because of a scientifically-backed post about breast biomechanics, I simply decided to check out for a while to let the emotions calm down - to focus on my midterms and some other stuff that has been rather overwhelming. Dealing with a bunch of greedy sellers and their inept realtor is exhausting. For the next few months, I will be posting, but not as much as I have been in the past.
Bunsen, sometimes science is very inconvenient, We’ve seen that before in the discussions of diet and nutrition and it certainly seems to be running rampant right now in a whole lot of areas that are going to affect our lives. I can really empathize with your frustrations with your greedy sellers and their inept realtor. I’m dealing with the same thing right now in trying to put a lease together for the space for the 3800 sq ft studio I’m opening with my daughter. If the location and other factors about the space weren’t so ideal, I would walk away and find another space.
Deb922, glad your H is ok, sorry it was a bug that you now have. Not fun.
Good to hear from you, @BunsenBurner. When we sold our house near Hartford, CT a while back, our realtor had to basically guide the one from the buyers’ side through the process. I’ve always said I could never be a realtor – you have to be nice to everyone all the time! Hope everything gets sorted out ASAP.
“Hope you keep us abreast on the new house.” (was this an intentional pun to BB? )
BB so happy to see you post - purely selfish of course, but I enjoy what you have to say so much. I’m sorry about the house issues - and school work on top of it. Hoping that things can get resolved in a positive way - you and your H seem very thorough and deserve a good outcome.
Deb so sorry about the bug. Hope it’s a 24 hour quickie.
So 74 yesterday…right now its snow flurries outside my window. Yeah, there we go winter!
Wanted to share this YouTube channel that is worth following for a variety of home workouts to follow. Different levels available. Most videos are the guy and the girl doing the exercises together - she often does a modified easier version alongside of his higher intensity movements.
They have a variety of short videos - you can choose from an 8 minute low intensity aerobic workout to a 17 minute weights workout and much, much more. I subscribe to their channel so I get notices of new videos posted.
Really good (IMO) for the beginner, the person who is tentative about classes, for when you can get to a gym or outside - or whatever!
Went to an newly opened Orange Theory near me. Overall I liked the workout/class. Pros–it was fast-paced and you got a decent cardio and strengtht workout in 60 minutes. Plus, you focus on getting your heart rate up. You wear the Orange Theory heart rate monitor and you can see your heart rate throughout the class on a board up above and when it’s orange or red you know you’re getting up to your max HR. I kept my Charge 2 on my other wrist and found that HR on both monitors was consistent.
Cons–If you’d never done the exercises or if you had limitations and needed to modify, you were pretty much on your own. It was also gimmicky (this was tropic week and instructors were wearing goofy hats and such.) Music was too loud for me, but the choice of music was fine (60s/70s).
I bought a package of 5 classes so I’ll go back. You can sign up using the Mind-Body app, which is easy. I think I get a better quality strength workout with my trainer, but this might be an okay way for me to get a second day of strength training in rather than working with the trainer twice a week.
13.1 training miles this morning. Started with my daughter and she turned back before 5 miles. It was a running club training run with the “main” distance of 18 miles. It was a combination of nice roads, short stretches of taking you life in your hands (or feet) roads and greenway. Rolling with some long, gradual climbs. No huge hills. I ran faster than my last couple of half marathons, which means I went too fast. I was sure ready to be finished! It was 41-46 degrees or so with a significant wind. I was zipping and unzipping my jacket all morning. Done! She and I went to breakfast and I had the stuffed French toast, which means I put back all the calories that I burned, probably!
Bunsen- good luck with the house transaction. It’s always a pain in the butt.
She who shall no longer be named used to like Orange Theory! Glad you got to try it, Bromfield.
Oh- one of our prominent runners who was at the run got a $50 ticket- while RUNNING! She stepped outside the yellow line on the rich folks boulevard! She had to lift up her foot and show her RoadID! Flashing police lights and everything!
MOWC - now I want to make a special trip down and get a running fine. Was she speeding!
Still sore today from Thursday’s AlterG. Haven’t done it for awhile. Really trashes your legs when your running at 5:00 mile pace for 5 straight miles even if it’s at 70/80/90% weight!
5 lb party for me. Made 135 today. I’m starting to track food again on MyFitnessPal. Goal is to be at 120-125 by June 1. Didn’t realize it but the steps/activity from my Garmin 235/Connect integrate with MyFitnessPal giving me net calories for the day.
Thanks for the OrangeTheory review @Bromfield2. I have a free class coupon and keep planning to try it so your review is very helpful to me. One of the women in my AM yoga classes refers to it as the “opposite of yoga”. She mentioned the music being loud.
MoWC, she should tell people it is a speeding ticket. That is crazy!
Ran a 5K this morning, a perfect sunny but cool morning. Results are still not posted and it is driving me crazy because I think I ran the fastest I have so far with new hips.
MOWC - wow, a running ticket? That’s head-shaking. We had a fun morning here - about 30 women from my run club had worked together to get custom fabric made with the club logo, then a custom Sparkle Skirt made & we all wore them today. They are sort of a poison green with a royal blue roadrunner pattern to go with our royal blue shirts- you could see them from a mile away!
Ha, a running ticket! (Funny because it’s not me who got it!)
I’m about to go to the gym for 7 miles. I’ll probably do a run 4, walk 1 interval. Head’s just not in it. I’ve told myself to just cover the distant until at least mid-March, then see how I feel. I don’t need running to become any more stressful; it’s suppose to be a stress reliever!
Was supposed to run this morning (I really need to make it a priority to run first thing on Saturday mornings, or I wait until the afternoon and don’t feel like doing it), but I had a job fair. I’m trying to transfer to another school. Hopefully things work out. I know the place I’m at is causing too much stress and it’s affecting me, probably more than I actually realize.
