Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Ouch!!! That sounds so painful, MNK! I hope you are feeling better by wedding time this weekend.

Oh MK, I’m sorry to hear about your injury! Hoping for a little comfort by the weekend.

That sounds very painful, Michael - hope you’re in less pain come wedding time.

Michael- did you hear the “pop”? When you tore it. Bruising? You aren’t running any marathons soon.

Sounds painful, M&K–wish you a speedy recovery.

Did another Orange Theory today–knowing the routine made a big difference. I still am not crazy about the loud music.

Signed up for a class at the kick boxing studio–going when I get back from FL. I leave on Friday for a week and can’t wait.

sabaray- Sounds like a great run this morning! And great job with the other exercises. I’m currently trying to not chicken out of taking a new class tonight…

MichaelNKat- That sounds awful! I’m also wishing you a speedy recovery.

It looks like there is a big storm coming, and it looked really close at work, so we got to leave early so I’m home in time to try the tabata/core class that starts in a little less than an hour. I don’t know why I get so nervous to try new classes! But, I need to focus on more than just running and cardio so I need to go.

Ouch, MNK! Hope your calf recovers soon.

Very nice, sabaray! Sounds like your workouts are really paying off.

Ahh, running in Napa will be a great reward for your plane cabin confinement, MoWC.

I just heard a piece on NPR about the early arrival of spring. Don’t I know it. It was almost 90 today and in spite of sunscreen, I feel like my skin is a bit burned. I was, at least, prompted to schedule a skin check with the dermatologist. Yesterday was the dentist, tomorrow the annual gyn exam. Ugh, health maintenance with the professionals is just happening with more and more frequency with my increasing years. I completely understand why some people just say to heck with it. I ran 5 miles this morning and will have additional walking steps from all the time on my feet today.

Thanks everyone for you wishes for a speedy recovery. Right now I wish I lived in Mass. or Colorado  .

Ohio, yes, I heard the “pop” and immediately stopped what I was doing. Very tender to the touch. At least it’s the proximal medial portion of the calf where there is good blood flow. No lumps, no knots, so it’s not a horrible tear (I think), so I’ll see if there is an improvement over the next day or two with conservative treatment and Advil.

Lurking on this thread for quite a while culminated in me posting goals at the beginning of the new year. I’m happy to report that I’ve settled into 4 times a week at the YMCA participating in a combo of yoga, zumba, raquetball, walking and just this week a bit of running. Still haven’t begun any resistance training but hope to soon. As for cutting back on sugar, I’m down to one serving of sweets a day- huge progress for me haha. Anyhow, you all are very inspiring and thank you for the kickstart I needed. I’m not great at posting much but do benefit from and appreciate reading this thread.

That is great to hear, @hoosiermom - you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear others getting some benefit from the thread. You’re doing great - in my experience, if I tried to do everything at once I failed miserably. Keep up those good cardio habits and start working in the resistance - you will really see the benefits in no time. Great job!

Way to go, hoosiermom. Stick around! We’re here to help.

Sabaray- let us know when you are safely through the storm. Agree that your desire to improve is inspiring and admirable.

Michael- oh no! How long will it take to heal?

My son thinks he broke his elbow in the crash. He’s been out of town but is flying home tonight and is going to go to the Urgent Care for an X-ray. That would do serious damage to his racing plans.

I made it to Napa. Long, exhausting day. I can’t complain about being in Napa, but the area around this resort is not very runnable. It’s busy roads and an office park. I ran 3 miles through the office park and didn’t get hit by a car, but 3 miles is about all you can do. There is a park with a trail by the river that I can drive to, but I’m not crazy about doing that in the dark. The hotel concierge wasn’t much help, surprisingly. I called the local running store and they were more helpful.

Well I made it to the class and holy cow! It was my first experience with HIIT stuff. I was tired and sweating after the warm up!! And I quickly remembered why I don’t do a lot of group exercise classes: I’m horribly uncoordinated. :-S

I didn’t love the instructor. There were about six or seven of us in there, and throughout she would just call (yell) out to people, “HEY, faster!,” or “HEY, blah blah blah.” I don’t mind corrections, but the loud HEY was distracting. I know my body doesn’t do what I think it’s doing, so I always thought she was talking to me. And I always try to work on form first, then once I have that down worry about going faster and I think I got yelled at some for that. Form comes first for me because I don’t need to hurt my knees, back, or anything else.

It was a great workout however, and I’m going to go whenever my schedule allows. Probably won’t be often enough where I can really build on it right now, but it was a great workout and I really got my heart rate up. Great for a cross training day.

MOWC, hope you find a good place to run. And hope your son is ok!

I agree with @hoosiermom - this crowd is inspirational. I don’t post that often, but I read much of what’s posted and like following the journeys.

Hope your muscle heals quickly, Michael. So unfortunate. Fingers crossed for your speedy recovery.

Great job, everyone!

My son just has a bad infection. Whew. Oral antibiotics.

Yikes! Is it related to his wound?

Yes. Road rash and a big scab.

Ouch, ouch, ouch… Big kids, big worries, indeed. Fingers crossed that the meds will work soon.

@hoosiemom, way to go! That’s great progress in a short period of time! We all need people like you to help keep us inspired!

The more the merrier everybody!

Sending wishes to @MichaelNKat and @MomofWildChild S for quick healing.

Welcome @hoosiermom .This is a great thread for support and inspiration.
