Sounds like you needed the rest, MOWC. I’ve no doubt you’ll be in fine racing form come June.

Nice break, Bromfield! I’m jealous of everyone who has made it to Florida.

I too was a slacker this morning and did not want to get out of bed but managed to meet my running partners - we were a bit short of 8 but not by much. Felt pretty good. I am going to PiYo tomorrow and then we are supposed to get slammed with snow Monday night. Oh well, it is March after all!

23 degrees here. Did 7 miles but didn’t feel great. Stopped a couple of times to walk which I usually don’t do. Not sure why. Some runs are like that I guess

MOWC - you have so much good mileage built up and so much race experience you’ll be fine.

Sabaray - PiYo is combination Pilates and Yoga? Sounds great

I’m seriously lacking in long runs, though. I have time to do a couple. At this stage in my life, I choose to not do very many. I suffer more in the race, but I can’t stand to do the long runs anymore.

MOfWC, hope you will have plenty of opportunities to squeeze in a few long runs later in April. The April weather can’t be that bad! Can’t imagine doing a long run in subfreezing weather. A big pansy here.

I’m with you Re: long runs. Fiancé said to do 4 20s before the marathon and I just couldn’t.

Yeah- If I can do a 15 and a 17 before June 1, I’m good. This is not the weather I like! I would like to do 10 tomorrow if I can stand it.

I never did 4 20s for a race! That seems like an invitation for injury!

Long and stressful week at work and otherwise, but managed to stay active. Today was yoga, then a 3 mile treadmill run (bitter wind outside). H and I are off to a winery with friends this afternoon.

I totally agree, MOWC (invitation for injury). Plus his running buddy said if you overtrain, you leave your best run in the Park. I think I ended up doing an 18, a 20, a 15 and a 12. Your plan sounds good.

Winery sounds good, FallGirl! Sorry for your long and stressful week. Good for you doing yoga and treadmill.

6 miles is a long run for me. Would like to go longer. I really start to get bored after 3. Don’t get bored on long bike rides. Swimming is even worse. Can’t last more than 10-15 minutes.

4 20s? Yikes. I only did one 21-miler and a couple of shorter “longs.”

I could not do that many 20s. I know some of the Galloway plans call for up to marathon distance - I would have died of boredom! If I’m remembering correctly, I did runs of 18, 20 and 24 for my first; longest for the most recent attempt was 20. Pain may have made my memory foggy, however! :open_mouth:

Yeah, I stopped at eighteen miles. That was three hours of running and plenty for me. It is a balance between getting stronger and being prepared and making yourself tired and weaker. My running buddiess did used to try to trick me into going 22 just one time, though. I think they used the promise of food!

^^it’s like childbirth, right? You don’t remember the pain.

Yes BB – 4 20s seems like overkill (shhh – don’t tell him). But it’s ingrained in his decades-long training plan.

Ohio - swimming is the best exercise I can’t stand. I know I should do it – I can’t. I hate the feeling of not drawing in enough air vs water and lacking the upper body strength to pull myself through the water.

Once I retire (and have a more flexible schedule), I’d like to volunteer for Achilles. I see their runners in the Park often. One runner with a band guiding an Achilles runner (many of whom are visually impaired). I saw some in the Marathon. What a wonderful commitment to helping others.

^^^ There’s one of the problems- “decades long training plan.” I could do that decades ago. We routinely ran 18-20 many weekends in a row. Not so much of a good idea as you get older!

I had an 8 mile run planned for today. I got to 8 miles, just not all of it was a run. Big realization today: My body can definitely do it, but stress is absolutely getting to me. I have got to figure out how to manage this stress. It didn’t help that yesterday positions went up for several schools I want to transfer to (and it’s sounding like for most of these spots, principals already have someone in mind) and I went to a place I’ve never been to to do this run. I made it a little over four miles. Then, whenever I would run for more than ~7 minutes my stomach felt off. Lots of walking. Finally, for the last mile, I just decided to stick with a 4 min run, 1 min walk, no matter how ok I felt after the four minutes of running. It ended up being my second fasted mile of the day.

Sounds like winter is back for many of us! That also made it hard to get out this morning as I had no idea what to wear!

And never would I ever run 4 20 milers! I would like to eventually do another marathon when life is going better, but geez. I think I’ll always be on the 1 20 mile run plan!

^^nahnah, I’m a short distance runner (more of a 5k-ish runner) but one thing I learned on here is that running several miles straight- well it’s fairly typical for recreational runners (as opposed to someone on a team/circuit/etc.) to take reasonable walking breaks and/or to do a 4/1 or 5/1 ALL of the miles - anyone here can certainly correct me!

My S is a young school teacher - it can be quite stressful - especially in today’s climate and depending where you are, threats to public schools. Hang in there.

I thought of you all today - I was on my purpose walk (which sometimes turns into a jog!) in my neighborhood when I was going by a house that had oodles of cars in the driveway. I was listening to a podcast but could hear the “yip” of a dog coming at me - little guy couldn’t have weighted more than 10 pounds but guess what - A BITER. Dude was nipping left and right at my lower legs. I stopped and tried not to move, used my high pitched non-threatening voice - he didn’t care. Clearly he had escaped out the front door when someone opened - SO WHERE THE HECK WERE THEY!!!? Finally a women came out - I told her “you need to get him inside he’s biting” - she never looked at me, never said a word. Grabbed him by the collar and was a little rough with him. Ticked me off. As Sabaray says, “no dumb dogs, just dumb owners”.

Good thing I had on my thick lined Athleta wind tights (cold outside!) no damage to me or the pants. But you know, that’s scary! He was NOT stopping!

So today, one 3 mile walk/jog, and several leg nips.

Glad you are OK, abasket! How obnoxious.

Nahnah- walking breaks are fine. And- bad runs happen. Sometimes for no reason at all. There are just “those days”.

abasket – I was wearing my thick lined Athleta tights too! They are really warm. I wonder if it was the same kind of dog that lunged at me the other day. Beige – the dog was beige. I think that’s a breed, right?

Yes indeed @Classof2015 ! This one did have beige on him!! I did literally roll up my pant leg there to see if I had any signs of bite “damage”. It hurt!

Those “yellah no good dawgs” and their stupid owners. There is a beige dog on our street that tries to attack any thing that goes past him - bunnies, runners, cars… Usually it just runs along the fence inside the yard, barking like crazy, but once I had to arm myself with a stick when it got loose.

Glad that neither abasket nor Classof2015 was harmed!!!
