@nahnah12 --wow – that’s a lot of races! Sorry I missed that!
Can I lend you my “racer’s prayer” which I made up first time I found myself at the start, in the cold, with a whole bunch of people who were younger than me? Run your race. At your pace. Not their pace, not some random “goal” pace – your pace. Listen to your breathing. Make it challenging but manageable. You can do it!
P.S. I think April 31st is also known as, like, May 1st in some parts of the country
If your race is April 30, so is mine (a half). So I will race with you in spirit!
Oh gosh @Classof2015 , what can I say, it’s been a long week!! LOL. I usually double check myself before I say a 31, oh well! I’ll be excited to see how your race goes on APRIL 30TH!! :))
With the first 10k I have coming up, I did it last year and was hoping to beat my time. I think I’ll readjust and just try to see improvements with the three 10k races I have this year (I will also do a turkey trot in November).
Sometimes I just need to remember that the main reason I do races is to have fun and celebrate what my body can do. I will never ever win a race, and that’s fine. So, there’s no reason to get bent out of shape about it!
March 10 and it is SNOWING here! Just a couple of inches, but still … Another storm in the forecast for Tuesday; with the possibility of even more accumulation. Crazy, crazy New England weather!!
H hadn’t really started the prep. He had been thinking Wednesday was the day to start the low fiber diet, but hadn’t received the packet of instructions from the hospital. He called to find out why and found out the procedure isn’t until next month. Good thing he hadn’t already started with the nasty drink stuff!
Stayed inside this morning for 3.3 miles. It was really windy and gloomy and we had bad storms overnight so I didn’t sleep well. That will do it for today! I HATE that colonoscopy prep. I’m due to go this year. Putting it off a few months.
I had moviprep and it was not that bad. Of corse, the formulation had to have some icky sweetener. Ugh. I saved the recipe - next time, I am mixing my own PEG and salts. The sweetener was what got me gagging. I also dank the darn thing at slightly above lukewarm temperature. This allowed me to gulp it down quickly. Can’t imaginge drinking that stuff cold - slowly “enjoying” it. No way.
Today is a rest day for me but it’s gray and overcast. Big pup walk this morning.
@Classof2015, I eat the same breakfasts pretty regularly. I do not eat before I run though - I’m not hungry at 4 am! Standards are Greek yogurt with berries, homemade breakfast sandwich (Fiber One muffin, Pam fried egg, Canadian bacon and white cheddar), or Kodiak cakes or muffins (weekends only). Having those standards makes at least one meal easier!
Sabaray, we are breakfast twins. I am so lucky Mr. will eat the same thing every morning. Not all folks are like that - my uncle never ate the same thing twice in a week. Eeek. He did not cook, so he married my aunt for her culinary skills.
I have the same breakfast most weekdays and some weekend days. Nonfat plain Greek yogurt (a few generous tablespoons), a couple of spoonfuls of natural ground peanut butter, a squirt (growing the squirt…) of honey and a generous sprinkle of grapenuts cereal for crunch. It sounds disgusting but it’s really good and filling.
That said, I REALLY wanted donuts this morning, but fortunately it’s a hassle to get to Dunkin on my way to work, so I didn’t go. I told myself if I make it through my 12 mile run tomorrow morning I’ll go get some.
^^I think that sounds really good! I’m a sucker for natural crunchy PB…
Same here. Breakfast M-F is always a poached egg, fruit with whole milk plain yogurt OR cottage cheese and topped with sliced almonds, pecans or/and my homemade granola. On the weekends I have a big breakfast more like mid morning - and then usually no lunch - which includes my coveted slice of thick bacon sometimes peppered.
Was really excited to have my work schedule accommodate going to our work fitness center for spinning class today - first time it has really worked out all semester! Come to find because it’s spring break classes are not on. I’ll still go and use some machines I guess. I really wanted a little variety today!
@Classof2015 - Forgot to mention my daily breakfast: egg substitute omelet (equivalent of 2 eggs with Pam sautéed chopped mushrooms, tomatoes & arugula + feta cheese) plus 1/2 cup of fruit (depending on what I have, could be strawberries, grapes, pineapple, etc). I usually eat this around 10:00 AM. after getting back from the gym. Then I’m good until dinner, with possibly an apple with cheese around 4:00 PM. If I’m going out to lunch, I skip breakfast. Works for me – which, IMO, is the key. Some people need a lot more variety in their meals; I’m not one of them!
Sabaray – those breakfasts sound good – so healthy! What’s a Kodiak cake? Sounds yummy! Can’t believe you are up at 4 am to run – my tummy wouldn’t be awake (or my legs either). Good work!
CBBBlinker – also sounds good – I should try that omelet.
Snow here too. No one’s racing this weekend, right? FallGirl and Sabaray are next weekend I believe. Stay warm everyone!
Apparently, Shark Tank snobs passed on investing in them. Said the product was a commodity with too much competition. Well, I now see these cake mixes sold everywhere. And they are yummy.
Had 2nd AlterG session this week today. Ramped up the weight today. 4 miles @ 5 min pace at 80% weight. So far I’m feeling faster and think the weight loss goal is a good strategy.
Winter air is back! Low in the teens tonight. Managed to get some miles inside at the track and some time on the rowing machine. At least we didn’t get the snow some of you got!
Well- so much for the 12 mile run! Here’s how my motivation is doing today… I apparently was very tired (it’s been a long week…) and couldn’t even budge out of bed until after 7 am. Then- it’s 31 degrees and so windy that it’s snowing sideways! Um, no. My marathon isn’t until June, right? My first thought was “I’ll never complete my race if I don’t run 12 miles this weekend!” My second thought was, “I have plenty of time.” Not sure what I will actually do today, but I doubt it will involve running outside. Big question is if my husband will go out in the “blizzard” to fetch donuts! I’m thinking maybe 5 very slow miles on the treadmill while I watch some TV. See what tomorrow brings for a possible 10 miles.
Back from a mini-family reunion in FL (Vero Beach). It was very windy and not great for sitting on the beach. I’m not complaining; it was much warmer than MA. I walked 4 miles with my cousin every morning, did some swimming (in pool), and yoga stretching on my own. Saw manatees and great birds at an area nature preserve. Bad news-- too much alcohol and more sweets than I ever eat. (I know my weakness, so I never keep anything sweet in the house. My cousins had tons of candy and cookies and other sweet junk.)
Came home to a dusting of snow!! Happy to be back in my routine–signed up for yoga later today.
