Welcome @Fishnlines29 - the first step is getting off the couch - make a deal with your self - just 10 minutes (or whatever time you negotiate in your mind) on the elliptical - the couch will still be waiting for you afterwards!
How surprised would your H be if you told him you were on the elliptical while he was a the gym?!!
Welcome, Fishn. Tell yourself you are going to get on the elliptical for 5 minutes! If you have music or TV, you will surprise yourself and probably do “5 minutes more” and then 5 minutes more… The first step is the hardest. Stick with us. We’ll get you off your butt!
I haven’t checked in a while. Been traveling for a couple of weeks. I’m at my D’s. Now. She’s cheering on her fellow gym people for the crossfit open and I went for a purposeful walk.
I’ve been walking lately, it’s easier when the weather stinks at home and then on the road.
I will get back to running when I’m home for a stretch.
Anyone else “out there” peeking in - take a moment to say hey!
This thread isn’t just for reporting in success - we all need motivation or needed it to get where we’re going. And we all have struggles. Goodness yes!
Struggles, YES. I eat SO poorly at my sister’s house. Stuff that wouldn’t even tempt me at home like double stuffed Oreos. It’s like I scream VACATION and all good judgement goes out the window.
Fall off the cart is ok - even for a few days - as long as you can jump back on with success. And when you run 9 miles…you are allowed a TRIPLE stuffed Oreo!
@Fishnlines29 I will second everything said so far. This is a great place to hang out no matter where you are in your fitness journey. We represent all levels and everyone here has successes and setbacks and this is a great place to discuss it all. I find a lot of motivation and inspiration here.
I saw that 15K step article. My thought is that I’d rather have 10-11 thousand steps but have a fair portion of those steps be hearty exercise - not just strolling steps.
That’s funny, abasket. I would not have predicted that! My husband likes Lulu pants!
I usually get 15000 steps including my running, unless it’s a very light running day. I agree that it should include some serious exercising and not just back and forth in the living room.
Double stuffed Oreos. Mmm, one day I could eat those without guilt!
Stupidly doing the Big Climb tomorrow (Columbia Tower, 1311 steps, 69 stories). I have barely trained for it at all, and I am still kind of fat after the Christmas excess. God help me. Hoping to finish in less than 15 minutes, no big expectations. My husband will probably finish in the top ten overall. It’s quite a family of extremes we have here.
Interesting…15,000 steps now? Sometimes I wonder about the whole steps thing. I could walk 15,000 steps in a day and feel like I got just a little bit of exercise. But if I go on a good, hard run (and get far less than 15K steps), I feel like I really worked out. I always wonder if it is much better to get strenuous exercise, but far less of it.
Go BUS!!! You can do it!!! You will be less fat after doing it, so there is that! That is so awesome that you are doing it. I hope that my stupid body will be fixed soon so I can do the climb next spring!
Thanks, Bunsen! However, I’ll probably feel entitled to eat ten donuts and drink a six pack of beer after it, so there is that! Sometimes these events tend to make me gain weight. Grrrr!
I hope you are well and able to do the climb next year. Hey, I’ll bring you with me in spirit this year for motivation, just like I brought you guys to that painful half marathon I did. Are you on the way to getting fixed, or are they still confused about you? Sorry, there have been so many posts, I just haven’t been able to follow them on this thread.
Thanks, bus! Slowly moving in the right direction. One last procedure to make sure my bladder is not the culprit… Then probably off to instantly lose a pound! Yippee!!! Not. But I will be thrilled if it fixes half of my issues.
Rant ON. Sucks to be a female. So much useless extra junk stays in our bodies when we are done with using it. Rant OFF.
Yeah, I know. I’m with you on the rant. Plus, I know a lot of women with breast cancer, which sounds like it really sucks too. Being a woman is way too much work.
