Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

@Bromfield2 I mentioned the hip pain yesterday to my yoga teacher and she suggested some poses as well as using a foam roller (which I need to buy). H suggested I see an orthopedic surgeon we know but I would rather not. I prefer to try any options other than surgery or pain meds!

Tomorrow should be beautiful here and I am signed up for an 8 mile route preview walk for the upcoming Avon 39. Should be a fun way to get to walk somewhere new as well as hopefully meet some folks.

A foam roller is a really helpful thing to have, @FallGirl - I use mine regularly. We even use it in Pilates to make some of the exercises more challenging!

Today is a rest day for me. 7 days of hard workouts and a race - I need a rest. Planning on 10 miles tomorrow - we’ll see how that goes. Pulled some marathon lasagna from the freezer last night for dinner - unlike other frozen leftovers, this held up well and was as good the second time as the first. Salad and a glass of red wine to round it out. I am ready for the weekend - time to finish some vacation planning. Boy do I need one!

Where are you going to go, sabaray?

4 miles this morning and 3 1/2 of it was with my husband. We rarely run together, and I wanted to show him one of the neighborhoods I like to run through here in Ft. Myers. Nice morning.

We are headed down south - Charleston and Savannah. Nothing like a little summer heat and humidity, but it’s when we can go! Recommendations are welcomed.

4 miles this morning.

Yesterday evening I walked to my Book Club gathering. The hostess’ home is just under 1.5 miles from us. H was horrified that I was going to walk – it’s SO far; it’s SO cold, etc., etc. Took me 21 minutes and walking warms me up. Clearly H is just not into exercise … I did catch a ride home, though.

Mr. Sabaray wants to try a new taco and tequila bar within walking distance of our house - I told him we could go this weekend but we had to walk. There was a little grumbling but I told him I was not spending my vacation with him unable to walk 50 feet without sweating so much he needs a dry shirt. Yep, I’m mean.

I love Charleston. My recommendation is to make sure you run over the gorgeous bridge!

I had to stay really late at work last night so I had to cancel on my trainer. So no exercise beyond getting steps in.

Tomorrow I am running a half marathon. I did this one for the first time last year and I remember liking the course. Except that the last mile is all uphill, but at least I know that this year so I’m mentally prepared.

sabaray - it certainly sounds as if you need that rest day today. Your upcoming vacation sounds fun!

Good luck tomorrow C3B!

Out in shorts and tshirt raking the back yard and de-leafing some of the flower beds. - 73 and WINDY. Run later.

I just found the coolest thing! I pulled up the weather channel app on my phone to look at tomorrow’s forecast. There is now a “Running Conditions” forecast. It gives a little score from 1-10 for the running conditions and you can see the score by hour for today and tomorrow, and daily for the next week. I don’t know how long this has been on there because I just noticed it, but I think it’s kind of cool. I’ll have to check into it more to see how they come up with the score - hoping they factor wind in a lot - but for what it’s worth, I’ll be running in conditions that rate a 7 tomorrow!

That’s awesome, thanks for the tip, C3Baker, and good luck tomorrow!

Good luck, C3B. That is a neat feature. Thanks for the info.

Sorry to read about all the injuries and such! Hopefully everything gets better soon.

I’ve been to Charleston once, on a field trip. In June. I’d like to go back there without kids one day!

This has just been an off week. I’m officially admitting I’m a stress eater, and I didn’t even bother to do any of the good things I had started doing. I’m deciding to just call it the past and move on.

I have nine miles planned for tomorrow, and I think I’m going to use the app again. It doesn’t last for the whole nine miles for me, but it’s gets me through a good chunk of the distance.

And finally, I need to see if either of my weather apps have that feature!

Well thanks C3B now I have another addiction to look forward to - checking that Weather Channel app so I know what the # of the day is!!!

Ran tonight when the conditions were a Weather Channel “9” out of 10 - probably not a 10 just because of the wind. Temperature 73 and sunny. Abasket 5k. After that and a good 2.5 hours of gardening my step count and activity minutes are through the roof! Gotta love the good weather!!

I was wondering why Mr. B was SOOO eager to take out the garbage tonight… we almost had a fight over who’d do it,. LOL, when he came back, he proudly displayed his Fitbit. Made his 10,000 steps despite traveling to an back from CA. Sadly, my butt was plastered in the chair. All. Day. Long! But we are done with this mega project! Yay!!! So happy for the team.

Good luck today @C3Baker ! Will look forward to the race report.

Congrats for finishing the project @BunsenBurner . And good for your H getting his steps in.

Thanks for the tip, @C3Baker. I have the Weather Channel app on my phone but apparently never scrolled down far enough to find that feature. Good luck on your race.

Today’s exercise is more of the “domestic chore” variety. Not my favorite, but we’re having company so …

10 miles done. I was tired and probably ran a little faster than I should have. But it’s done.

Did my longest Florida run ever this morning- 9.2 miles. Was trying for 8, and felt pretty good so stretched it out. HR stayed amazingly low. It was a nice 65 degrees with a breeze and I stashed water on the course, which was a big help. Now I can plant my butt in a beach chair!

I have to start reading this thread. I am so out of shape. Not really overweight (a little) but lack of muscle mass. I’ve been frustrated the last two months with frozen shoulder (loss of mobility in my left shoulder). I’ve been going to PT and doing my exercises for my shoulder daily, so that’s good.

But beyond that, I seriously lack motivation and I haven’t in the past. I think about jumping on the elliptical in my basement every day, but never actually do it. just crazy. My S/O just left for the gym, he goes every day.

So i’m hoping if I start reading this thread daily, you all seem to have a great thing going here, perhaps I’ll find the inspiration I need! After a freezing cold week here in NJ, it’s supposed to be very warm today - so maybe I’ll at least get out and take a walk.
