Yes, it is annoying, because everybody knows what they are supposed to do. People were pretty good most of the time, but I think they were just too exhausted to function at the end. A friend of mine did this a few years ago, and said there was a rather large couple in front of him that was completely blocking his way, and refused to move. Finally the man stopped and threw up in the stairwell, right in his direction. Ugh!
So much for the mid fifties guys kicking butt. The young guys ran in the afternoon and moved them down in placement. (Along with me dropping down a lot). I just love it when the old guys are faster than the young ones…not this time.
Ya know, people should just keep their traps shut with some of those pep talks. There are some things that are right to say, “Looking good. Almost there. Doing great!” Not, “Go faster”.
Been away for a while – lots of work stuff – but C3Baker – that sounds like a very very tough race with the hills and being overdressed (which is a killer for anything over a 5K). So glad your running buddy helped you out.
Fishlines – welcome!
Did anyone see the ad for the documentary called “261”? Apparently there is another first woman runner of the Boston Marathon.
Drizzly morning, 50 degrees and humid but got out and pushed through 7. I had a really hard time in Pilates yesterday - class moved very quickly and a lot of exercises I don’t usually do. My hip flexors were screaming by the end. My throat has been scratchy - I think I just need some down time.
C3Baker – just re-read your post – the 1:45 pacer should have kept a steady 8 minute pace – they were doing 7:35? That’s crazy! Right there that killed you.
That’s my problem with pacers and using them as a guide – really messed me up in the marathon – for a couple of miles, the 9 minute pacer was chatting with the 9:30 minute pacer so I knew one of them (or both of them) were off.
Almost no sleep at all last night – and now I’m dragging. I’d been doing really well in the sleep department; either not waking in the middle of the night, or, if I did, going right back to sleep. I hope this isn’t the start of another insomnia phase.
Congrats to the racers – everyone who gets out there is a winner in my book! And welcome to @Fishnlines29!
Glad you made the climb, Bunsen! It sounds interesting.
Agree about pacers. A good one is magnificent, but a lot of them tend to go out too fast and that can really mess up your race.
Tired from getting home late last night from the trip. Managed 2.6 miles this morning and survived. Really wanted to stay in bed and cuddle the kitties.
Funny story about melatonin supplement - Mr. B has had a very stressful week and decided to take a capsule of that to help him zonk out faster. He dropped one of the pills on the floor, and our tortie cat went bananas! She was all over that pill, LOL. We looked at the bottle, and it said that the formulation contained “proprietary herbal mix.” ROFL! No need for an expensive analytical reverse engineering - my cat told us that the “proprietary herbal mix” was valerian root! The rest of the story: the supplement worked, and Mr. slept like a log… but the cat howling and bouncing off the walls all night long kept me awake!!!
First purposeful lunchtime walk outside at work in a while! Remember as spring sets in and so does the weather in your area that a 15 minute walk outside is is refreshing - and gets you 2000 or so good, hearty steps!
^I have never taken it but I’ve heard it really helps (although I have read that it can give you some crazy dreams at first). Maybe those people were taking the non-pure version. Does it help with the thing where you wake up at 3 am then you just lie there not really sleeping for 3 hours until it’s time to get up?
I’m here in the CC confessional seeking encouragement and folks who will help me stay accountable. (Am a longtime lurker on this and the WLFD thread.)
A year of dealing with knee pain due to a torn meniscus, baker’s knee, and arthritis has made me realize that reducing the stress the excess weight puts on my knees is critical. Began using MFP food diary last week; have had a few days where I’ve really missed sugar and junky carbs but am heartened by clothes feeling a little bit less tight and expect to see some weight loss on Wednesday’s weekly scale checkin.
Welcome and Way to go @yauponredux - feel free to post as often as you like - many of us often post our mundane exercise outputs (speaking for myself!) - it helps us feel accountable.
Can’t imagine you are wrong in your thoughts - extra weight = extra stress on knees!
Yes, when you take melatonin, you might still wake up at 3am, but then you should go right back to sleep. People generally don’t know how much they need, so you have to titrate yourself to figure it out.
You need to make sure you’ll have a good eight hours to sleep, or you could feel groggy in the morning. Start out with one mg, take that dosage for three nights. Most people, it isn’t enough. The goal is to feel well rested in the morning, but no crazy wild dreams. If you get the intense dreams, you’ve taken too much, and some people can’t take it at all. After three nights, up the dosage to two mg, you keep doing that till you find the right dosage. Me and my husband only need two mg, but many people need more than that.
I think the problem is, people assume we all need the same dosage.
