That’s wonderful! I am the total opposite of relaxed in the water - I panic that I’m breathing wrong and taking in water. The swim downriver sounds really cool!
sushi, a 2 day course is certainly better than what it used to be but realistically, 2 days doesn’t qualify someone to operate a training facility, let alone a facility that is based on modalities with the risk potentials that are part of the Cross Fit system. And unless something has changed, that’s all it takes to be permitted to then open a box as an affiliate and trade on the Cross Fit brand. Someone mentioned upstream that I’m a certified trainer. I spent 6 months attending lectures, reading over 600 pages of college level materials, watching hours of online content, taking unit quizzes, and taking an accredited 3 hour certification exam covering anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, sports psychology, assessments, exercise programming and nutrition. Even then, as a neophyte trainer, I had just scratched the surface and it took hours of mentoring with experienced trainers and hours of continuing ed each year to become comfortable with functioning as a fully independent trainer. And that’s where I have issues with Cross Fit’s business model and how it impacts on the experience a person can have in an affiliate facility. Even TRX, which is a much less risk exposed system of exercising requires 4 days of instructor training with theory, program design, teaching exposure and hands on practicums and a written test before you can be certified and open a studio as a TRX qualified facility. With all that Cross Fit has the potential to offer, I wish it required a much higher level of accountability before someone can open an affiliate and hold themselves out as a certified trainer.
Are you running Monument tomorrow, Nahnah? I’m hoping to do that one of these days. Hope it goes well for you!
Michael, I respect you and all of your training.
But can we please move on from the Crossfit discussion.
@sabaray --thanks for the offer! Can you send some vibes to curb my ice cream cravings?
Congratulations, dmd! I was actually going to suggest slowing down even more on your longer runs to try to get to where they feel really easy and you can stand them. I hear you…
My son and his friend are racing a half Ironman in California tomorrow against some really tough competition. We’ll see how that goes…Winter training in PA (and. NY for the friend) isn’t the easiest, as Michael can attest.
@nahnah12 best of luck on your race tomorrow! I’m the 8k-er - it’s on Sunday. PRAYING for no rain.
BB congrats on the house! Share your successes and woes here! Sounds like you’ll be getting plenty of exercise fixing it up!
Thanks, abasket! I already chucked a good chunk of the “presents” left for us and weeded the beds by the front door. Pulled some blackberries, too. Spread some moss killer while Mr. replaced every single dratted recessed light with an LED insert… all 80 or so of them! The previous owners loved canned lights.
I keep telling Mr. that we need to bring our bikes to the new place, and he does not want to. It will mean we will be playing in the sun instead of working!
Good luck and clear skies to all racers this weekend!
Congrats dmd and good luck to this weekend’s racers!
Sun? Did someone mention sun? Where??? More than a couple days without sun makes me antsy, and that’s what’s happening here. Yesterday we had rain, snow, sleet, and more rain. Today it’s supposed to change back to snow before ending. Not my idea of April Fool’s fun!
So-so news from B’s doctor appointment yesterday – 2 of the 40 removed lymph nodes had cancer, so he’ll have to have chemo. He did get some tubes pulled, so that was good.
Good luck to all racers! As I’ve mentioned before, I really have no interest in racing; any running I do is simply part of an overall effort to keep my aging metabolism revved up.
@sabaray - Thanks for the shoe report. I’ll keep those Brooks in mind when it’s time for my next pair. I’m currently in Hoka Cliftons, which I like for the roomier toe box. Until recently I never had an issue with my toes getting trashed, but for some reason now I do. I need to do the lace lock on my right shoe to prevent heel lift, but not on my left. Go figure.
I’m sorry your brother didn’t get the all clear, CBBB. They’ve made tremendous advances in treatment and I will continue to hope for the very best outcome for your brother.
Our rain is gone, thankfully - had planned to do 8 this morning and ended up with 9. I’m a lot happier running with this group - we have a good time and they seem to understand the importance of a training pace.
Looking forward to the race reports!
Good luck to our racers this weekend!
MOWC - the zip line sounds scary (but fun). I don’t know if I could have pulled my self up.
CBBB- continued hopes for successful treatment for your brother.
I did NOT wasn’t to go out in the 48 degree dark this morning in Georgia, but I did. 5.1 on a beautiful road, but it was really hilly. Sabaray neighborhood hilly! I did OK, but it was not easy. I saw a bunch of deer on my way back, which was nice. It was called Golf Club Road. I am on a panel in an hour called High Times at Work. (Drugs) Should be well attended…
CB3- good luck to your brother as he goes forward.
Hope all the racers have great times this weekend.
Snow started this morning and one yoga studio cancelled class, but the other one didn’t, so I went to an all-levels vinyasa class. Knew I’d have to take a class this morning in order to fit it in because I am picking up my D and her boyfriend from the airport this afternoon and driving them back to Providence. (They’ve spent spring break in Tulum–I’m jealous.)
WildChild had an incredible race today in California for his first triathlon of the season. He was 2nd in his age group, 3rd overall amateur and ran a 1:21:50 half marathon to finish out the race. The age group winner ran a 1:16 half but my son out biked him by a couple minutes. I was a wreck tracking him from Georgia while I was playing tug of war, bubble soccer, etc.
OMG!! That is fantastic, MOfWC! Big confidence booster for WC!
That’s awesome MOWC!! Is he even fully healed yet from his bad spill?
It looks like he’s healed. I’m glad he had a good race. That’s a strong performance against a tough field.
Yay for WildChild!
