As I said, this was my second time doing this race. Last year, I swear I ran through all four seasons during the race! We started out with a crisp breeze, then there was light snow, then rain, then sunshine. It was crazy! We had much better weather today and I ended up overdressed. It was actually ok because at the end I had to wait about 40 minutes for someone, and I would have been a bit too cold for comfort if I had worn short sleeves.
A teensy bit disappointed because I ran it 58 seconds slower than I did last year, but overall I’m content. I have a clogged up head and a bad cough, plus my training for the half hasn’t been going well so I knew it wasn’t going to be some major PR or something. When I lined up I told myself my main goal was to stop with the negative self talk, and I think I did a good job with that. I didn’t look at my pace at all during the race, so I went out a bit too fast. The last two miles I really wanted to walk, but I told myself to not quit, to run through the uncomfortableness, and that I chose to do this so enjoy it!
Several people from my school did it so it’ll be fun to hear from everyone on Monday.
Swam in a meet, had a meh performance, but a good time with friends.
Speaking of learning from competition, it underlined how I need to go to practice even if I am not feeling it and lit a fire under H to find a swim spot for when he (and often I) is out of town.
(One of my favorites was a pool in Verona, Italy. Beautiful, huge outdoor pool with a lap pool and a children’s pool Ten lanes in the lap pool. One of the residents told me VERY proudly that it was built by Mussolini. I’ve since found out that there are “Mussolini pools” all over Italy. He believed strongly in sports for citizens and spent the money for it. The pools are uniformly gorgeous.)
Way to go Nahnah! It sounds like a challenging course.
I didn’t run this morning (too much to do) but sometimes your workout finds you. Fiance called; car died. He had groceries in the trunk. So I biked the 3 miles to him; he packed up the bike and rode home (he’s better at that than me); I ran home. I’m calling it my biathlon
Great job WildChild - it was an absolutely gorgeous day here today, hope he enjoyed it!
First week of the new job down. SO much less stress to know that I have medical benefits and a paycheck coming in on a regular basis again. (My consulting job seemed to usually forget to pay me until I nagged a bit - that gets old in a hurry.) And so far so good - I think I will enjoy it.
We did an 8-mile trail run this morning with run club - the trail was in horrible shape from all the rain we’ve had. A couple people fell & I came close to turning an ankle. It’s usually a nice run & a spot where Meb often trains. Hopefully it will get fixed for next season (and for Meb).
In NYC this weekend , but spent 4.5 hours driving up , then hung out at D’s in Brooklyn, then at our hotel and went to dinner. Calling it a rest day. Hope to take a good walk in the park tomorrow morning.
Here’s what he wrote: (Modesty runs in the family…)
"Today I finished second in my age group and third overall in the amateur field at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside, one of the largest, most competitive long course triathlons in North America. This result also qualifies me to become an elite/professional in the sport (which I am not and will never be).
But, I came back strong from my February bike accident, and I am stoked to now hold this trophy above my head. I worked for this moment, and I deserve this pride!
Weather was cold and damp today. No outdoor riding. So I spent my day cementing in a replacement mailbox pole after the old one was run over by a client parking his car, buying a pillow that will enable me to sleep face down so I won’t snore and put my life in jeopardy from my wife being ready to smother me if I sleep on my back, and marked up the first 15 pages of a 44 page lease for studio space (the landlord isn’t going to like it but his lease was crap and his 3900 sq ft space has been empty since July). Finally, I did an indoor wattage training ride for 70 minutes and yay, my calf didn’t rebel. It’s hardly healed but I’ve really mastered the pedaling technique needed not to aggravate it, lol.
Saturday was spent racing between the paint sore and the lighting store and Costco… trying to locate the stuff for the new place and also get the paint for the old place… Tomorrow I will continue working on our front yard… Mr B wants it to be spotless and beautiful for the new owners to enjoy…
In other news, kiddo got a verbal job offer that she liked! Fingers crossed that a firm written offer will come on Mon. That would mean we will have to find an apartment for her… not a big deal, because I’d love to unload a whole bunch of stuff from this place!
Great news for kiddo, Bunsen. All the stars finally seem to be aligning for you and yours.
Glad to see WC roaring back to the front of the pack.
Very cold here this morning again. Yesterday morning I went to a PiYo class which was hard to do after running but the stretching sequences felt very good. Today I’m headed to TRX/mat combination class which is a nice way to start the week off. And finally -
