CBB, that is so frustrating. If I had tubes sticking out of me needlessly, I’d be climbing walls and gnawing on windowsills!!
Good mat class at lunch - the more you practice, the better you get. Got an email for the new Oiselle/Hoka shoe collaboration but talked myself out of buying them. MOWC, do you have your pair yet?
You know me too well. I ordered this morning from Oiselle. I had put in a pre-order “interest” request a few months ago when the Volee group got told about them. Clayton wasn’t my favorite Hoka, but this is a new version and since it’s Oiselle…
One hour fast AlterG session. 4 - 5 min mile pace miles. The last one at 90% weight. HR less than 160 so making progress.
Sabarary - Taking my first Pilates lesson tonight. We’ll see if I can walk tomorrow!
I am going to have to look up a YouTube of this AlterG running Ohio to understand what you do!
It’s miserable here. Been raining all day, sleeting and we may get snow tonight. Went to the gym and did 3 miles on the track and some rowing time. They had sample packs of Sports Beans there today - those are quite good!!!
Suppose to be 60 Saturday and in the 70’s Sunday - SPRING!
The weather here has been terrible also. I’ve been trying to run/walk every other day. In between the raindrops.
Today I had to go to a luncheon, where I ordered dessert! It was great! (I was driving or I would have ordered a drink. I sat next to the most annoying person ever, see my rant Lol!). Dessert had to suffice :((
It was cold, spitting snow and so windy. A good day to drive a carful of people to a luncheon.
Having a good week walking and running. And my husband found a video showing some simple exercises to do with dumbbells. The guy is not bad to look at! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgEd_jqkg0M
I’m eating enough to feel full but I’m losing a little weight. I’m happy that I don’t feel hungry.
Yeah for dessert! I read your rant - I rarely drink but I might have needed a drink to go with that dessert.
Splurging a little here for dinner…was suppose to go with a work group to a local eatery. They decided to cancel due to the weather (what? It’s wet, cold and rainy - but it’s light till 8pm - we stay in because of rain now?? - that’s my rant!). I had planned my food today planning to have some delicious pasta or pizza tonight…so when it got cancelled I pulled pizza dough out of the freezer and am making calzones …w/a greens and beet salad!
I think I did okay with eating today - my running schedule is all over the place this month and that’s impacting my diet. Breakfast - Greek yogurt with berries and half a banana; lunch - a grilled chicken breast and roasted Brussels sprouts; dinner was pasta with marinara and artichoke hearts. Longer run tomorrow morning.
I broke down and ordered the Hokas. If I don’t like them I’ll send them back. Ohio, given your workouts I doubt you will have any difficulty walking tomorrow! I always feel better after Pilates - hope that’s the case for you too.
How wonderful and kind you are, Classof2015, in the face of what must be a little delicate for you.
Glad you are not feeling any major ill effects after the bad little dog incident, sabaray! Good luck to your D in her recovery.
CBB, what a pain for your brother. The tubes must be so uncomfortable. Hope he feels up to a round of golf, soon.
Yum to your calzones abasket! I made a little flatbread tonight with a sourdough crust. I also made a fresh batch of pesto with the purple and green basil I harvested. We had that with our dinner tonight.
I walked a bit today, took a little hike, and knocked off two more routine doctor check-ups today, including the dermatologist. It’s always a struggle down here to keep excessive sun off the skin. Fortunately, no suspicious spots for me today. My knees are both still bothering me though. It’s not pain, per se, rather a feeling of looseness, like me kneecap is moving too much when my foot hits the ground. Walking with a long stride is uncomfortable, although a jog feels okay. Maybe I need to wrap my knees.
Hmmm- maybe Michael can weigh in on the loose knee sensation.
Sabaray- I hope we like our Hokas. Apparently the Oiselle site sold out of a lot of sizes really quickly. I had a fun meetup with 5 of the other Oiselle ladies (and 1 husband) tonight for drinks and gourmet tacos. It was fun. The runners are all speeds.
Abasket- I can’t believe they cancelled for rain, although the new thing around here is that school is cancelled if there is a forecast of severe thunderstorms or tornado warnings. I sort of get it, because it is dangerous with the school busses, but it gives my generation the chance to say “We NEVER had school cancelled for storms. We hit in the hallways with our hands covering our heads!”
Thanks, PlantMom! It is a journey, that’s for sure. I feel like I was put in a place to meet their dad and be part of their lives, so I want to do it right. No kid deserves to lose their mom overnight (her death was sudden).
Anyone else have total yucky weather (rain and thunderstorms) today? I’m not buying into the “April showers bring May flowers” thing anymore.
PlantMom, a loose knee cap is a sign that your muscles holding it in place are imbalanced - aka “runners’ knee”. You need to nip this in the bud before it could turn into a problem. Can you see a PT for some exercises? That was my miracle cure when I wrecked my knee. It is better to leave it to the pro because a good sports PT will be able to tailor exercises for your specific muscle imbalance. You will likely be given a subset of these general glute strengthening exercises:
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/exercises-for-patellar-tracking-disorder
Loose knee sensations can be related to the way the patella tracks along the tibial femoral groove. Strengthening the quadriceps and stretching the hamstring can help. Strengthening the sartorius muscle by doing side leg raises can also assist with controlling lateral patella movement. Exercises like supine or seated straight leg raises that engage the quads, single leg standing stability challenges like on a Bosu or Airex pad and single leg quad extensions can all help to strengthen and fire the quads and knee joint ligaments and tendons to provide support to the patella.
Great article Bunsen! Hits all of the surrounding musculature that supports patellar tracking.
Whew! 11 miles this morning. Normally this would be a Saturday run but just wasn’t going to work this weekend with my regular partner and we remind ourselves that we are in this together. Hip and lower back were a little painful so we took a few walk breaks. Got home and broke out the foam roller and resistance bands, did some stretching, felt pretty good. Looking forward to not getting up at 4 am tomorrow to run!
^^THAT is dedication. Do be careful with your back/hip! Will there be a nap at your desk today??
Remind me again when your half is Sabaray?
Thank you, Michael and BB. This all strengthens my suspicions about the lack of balance in my exercising, namely too much time on my feet with walking and running and not enough time slowly strengthening the supporting muscles. I really have let go lower body strengthening, rationalizing (wrongly) that running/walking magically takes care of everything down there. I need to take the time to plan better fitness and accept the flux of this aging body. (Oh fountain of youth, where art thou? (lol)) .
No desk napping, unfortunately. Pretty light day at work so I may go home early. I have a huge bruise on the hip now but the aches and pains were nothing that screamed “stop what you’re doing immediately!” I’m usually tired at the end of the week, anyway. Half is the last weekend in April. I’m not sure if it’s dedication or stupidity at this point!
@PlantMom, you might really like “Train Smart, Run Forever” - the last part of the book has a wonderful strength section, complete with photographs, showing some of the terrific exercises that I know have been mentioned here.
Way to go, sabaray! That is awesome and how nice to have it DONE!!! My 2 1/2 hour run is (hopefully) happening on Sunday so I get to look forward to it for a few more days. Ugh. I do NOT seem to be into the longer runs these days.
I just needed a couple of miles today and I slept a little later. I did 2.2 on the treadmill because it was cold (but nice) outside and it would have taken too long to put on all the cold weather gear so I just stayed inside.
