Women’s Weekend was excellent. Walked through Boston Common & the Public Garden both mornings. Other fun mixed in with the “work” parts of the weekend.
So, it was all good until mid-morning yesterday – my father sent me a text to say B (who recently had surgery for bladder cancer) was taken to the local ER because of a severe infection + extremely high blood sugar. (He has Type 2 diabetes.) As H said, the blood sugar is the easy part; getting rid of the infection is the key. ANYWAY, I zipped home and then H and I drove to my hometown. We got to the ER just as B was being loaded onto a helicopter for the 45 minute flight back to the hospital where he had the surgery. Along with other family members, we followed in cars. He’s in ICU, and is stabilized. He’s being closely monitored, but is basically in a holding pattern until the antibiotics really kick in and take care of the infection. My 89 year old father is a wreck, but trying not to show it.
CBBBlinker - I am so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope those antibiotics kick in quickly. And I hope your father is getting some rest. This is so stressful to deal with, and at 89 he sure doesn’t need the excitement. Please keep us posted on your brother.
MOWC - great job on your very long run. I hope you can overcome your self-doubts. You have a long running history and I have no doubt that you can conquer the marathons you’ve signed up for. You just have to convince yourself.
Michael - your post to MOWC was wonderful! As opposed your post about your weekend ride, which sounded brutal! You almost seem gleeful about it, though! I hope you get the kinks worked out with the new bike and a better saddle.
S ran his first marathon yesterday. I was more nervous about him running it than I am when I do one. It was agonizing tracking him all morning! He did great through the first 20 miles but then got hit hard with cramping. In other words, a very typical marathon, especially for a rookie. He was on track to beat his goal of under 4 hours by quite a bit, but then ended up jogging/walking the last miles so that he ended up at 4:01:07. I’m really proud of him for doing it!
Thanks for the info about the Lulu crop pants. I am really interested in them as I think they would really work for me, but they are so expensive. I will be near the Lulu store this weekend and hope they have some in the store that I can try on in person.
Congrats to your son! That’s a good time for his first marathon. Yes, it is agonizing tracking your kids in a race!
The Lulu pants fit very true to normal Lulu size and I thought they fit really well. I liked the high, wide waist which was very comfortable. They are so expensive. I won’t be buying multiple pairs…
@CBBBlinker, sorry to hear about your brother; just when you thought things were under control. Glad to hear that he has been stabilized. Thinking positive thoughts.
@C3Baker, congrats to your son. Sounds so much like my first marathon. I bonked so badly at mile 20 that I got lost on the course - which was pretty remarkable since at that point it consisted of running in a big circle up one side of a river, crossing the only bridge and then running down the other side of the river to the finish line. I never finished; your son can proudly say that he did! There is something about mile 20…, lol.
I’m determined to get to 10k steps each day this break. Got out for what I thought would be a nice walk. That “nice walk” turned in to me dodging wasps and walking into a swarm of gnats or something. Ick ick ick. At lease it felt really nice!
Went out to run yesterday and my knee started to hurt so after awhile I told myself to listen to my body and slowed to a walk. The pain went away later so not sure what’s up. Took a walk break at work and then walked after work though I didn’t get far as I ran into one of my “mom friends” whom I hadn’t seen in ages. I may have talked her into joining the running/walking program I do (which starts in a few weeks).
Not the most productive fitness day, but got my 12,000 steps.
I’m sorry your brother had such a setback, CBB. Adding my thoughts and prayers for him.
I walked yesterday, just getting in my 10000 steps by the end of the day. And, I got a call from one of the doctors of last week’s doc visits telling me I have a UTI. Blech. Sulfa antibiotic. Blech, Blech.
On a positive note, I’m looking forward to spending a little time with @fireandrain today!
Have fun Plantmom and Fireandrain. It was about a year ago that we were all together here in Tennessee!
3.5 miles this morning. I am REALLY tired and need to cut back this week or I will have a difficult 15K on Saturday. I just don’t bounce back like I used to.
50 minutes on the Cybex Arc (at a higher setting) + 10 minutes on the Octane XT-One. Lovely, hot day here today – quite a sudden change.
Thanks for all the well wishes for B – keep them coming. SIL just texted that docs found a blood clot in his arm, so they started him on Heparin to try to clear that. They’ll do an endoscopy to look for any serious bleeding issues. As H says, there’s no better place for B at the moment than the ICU… My other B (his twin) and our father are going to the hospital today; I’ll drive up tomorrow.
Thanks! Whatever keeps Mr. B happy, MOfWC! He says digging trenches is like yoga zen to him - it keeps his mind off work crap. I am trying to help him to finish as much as we can on the old house before I will be out of commission for a couple of months!
