LOL! Good one, abasket! I actually approximated my step count from Mr’s fitbit! That is one disadvantage of having a pretty lavender band - I hate to get it dirty. The final count for the day was 27,000.

Congrats to all who raced, trained, climbed, hiked, or did something else similarly active on the weekend!

Listen, I do a lot of yard work too! From cutting our large yard to flower and vegetable planting and tending to raking, trimming and digging. It’s hard work! It can be cardio and strength training all put together! My opinion, outside work counts as legit full-fledged exercise. If I spend an hour in the yard working hard, that’s as good as a 5 mile run. I’m definitely as sweaty!

abasket - what a cool experience to be at Mile 25! It is so inspiring to learn some of the runners’ stories and I’m sure your motivation was a bright spot for many runners.

Gertrude - great job on your La Jolla Half! I hope those hills haven’t left you too sore today!

MOWC - pretty cool that your friend was a pacer at the race I was in! One of our good friends ran Boston last Tuesday (he didn’t have a great time - I think the heat really got to him) but then he paced the marathon on Saturday, just 5 days later. He was the 3:40 pacer and finished exactly on time. He is amazing! He is pacing again this Saturday at the Kentucky Derby, but “only” the half marathon.

busdriver - wow, what an amazing day of hiking/running! Definitely on my bucket list to do the Rim-to-rim.

CBBBlinker - enjoy your time at the beach! Even with all those chores, they seem like the good/fun kind of chores to get ready for a season of fun!

Swam, ran, did some leg weights to counteract the weakness in rotators.

Anytime you all want to come to my house, I’ve got a big yard that needs a lot of work! Nice work, everyone.

I was tired yesterday and did nothing in the way of formal exercise - a few pup walks but that’s all. This morning was cold and rainy so hit the treadmill for a bit over 4 miles, then a pup walk. That seems to be a constant! Watching our forecast very carefully - the latter half of the week looks to be hot and humid. I could sure use a break.

I will let Mr. know, sabaray! As soon as we run out of yard work here!

Upper body is a bit sore… I was expecting much worse. Of course, it was sunny and nice today - after the all day downpour yesterday! I am amazed that we were able to finish the work under cold rain.

3.1 pre-work cool, sunny miles. Facebook tells me that on this day in 2009 I made my return to marathoning after about a 5 year break. It was a hot, horrible day here in Nashville for Music City Marathon, but I managed a 4:18 for 2nd in my age group. There was a lot of carnage that day. Running is stupid.

That’s a great time!

Cool windy and rainy here. Did 6 miles. Hat wouldn’t stay on my head, so I ended up carrying it. Sciatica is acting up (boy I sound old!) but I don’t think running is causing it.

I am spending 4 days in Vermont (Waitsfield) with 4 old friends. We are celebrating one friend’s milestone bday. We got here Sunday and have gone hiking every day. Yesterday two friends also went off to ski (some slopes up high at Mad River are still open) and two of us went to a yoga class. (I opted for yoga–I am a novice on skis.) It is been a great getaway!

Lots of steps on the Fitbit. Although my Charge 2 keeps falling off–the bands wont stay clipped. I decided to take it off so I don’t lose it. Will have to call Fitbit when I get back home.

Love hearing about all the successful races!

I am remarkably unsore from my half. I didn’t even walk funny yesterday. I did take it pretty easy, but I thought all that hill climbing, even at a walk, would make itself known the next day.

I am really enjoying my Fitbit. I think I enjoy the accessory functions even more than the step counting. It is now my morning alarm clock (just try to ignore a vibrating wrist band), and it will tell me who is calling or texting so I can decide whether I want to dig my phone out of my purse.

Gertrude- sometimes you are LESS sore when the course goes up and down a lot.

Possibly! I do not recall being super sore after my hilly race. I attributed it to being slow, but it probably makes sense -the body is engaging a different set of muscles on the uphills than that on the downhills, so while you are working all of your muscles, each group is working less.

Suppose to be 80 today! I have a laundry list of outside tasks I want to accomplish tonight after work so since pup is currently on vacation with H, I crawled out of bed and ran this morning. I really need to do this a little more often in the warm weather. I’m only willing to get up so early, but if I plan ok, I can still up at 6, run for 30 minutes and get to work by 7:30ish.

I had a good 5 mile run this morning with Back on My Feet. It’s nice that it is warmer in the mornings now. There was a film crew with us this morning getting footage for a story they are doing as part of the coverage of the upcoming Mini Marathon. I did my best smiles every time I ran by them, but I always get cut from footage so I don’t expect to see myself on TV!

abasket - good job getting out for the run this morning. We’re going to hit 80 this afternoon also. I’m loving it!

Gertrude - I also like the notifications on Fitbit. I can’t read them without my glasses, but it’s still easier than digging out my phone all the time.

Bromfield - sounds like a really fun time. What could be better than hiking in Vermont?!

Vermont sounds wonderful - somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit.

Our monsoon finally ended - miserable rain found me on the elliptical yesterday, but today headed out for four quick miles. Met with my trainer after but really it was an hour of facilitated stretching which was so helpful. My hips are still so tight, I just need to be consistent with the stretching I do. I have a work function today so will have to miss Barre class unfortunately.

Our weather looks to be hot and humid the next few days with plenty of pollen, my least favorite weather.

Our horrific Competitor Group Rock n Roll Marathon here in Nashville is this Saturday. (I’ll be in PA) It is going to be so warm and humid (surprise, surprise) that they moved the starting time up to 6:45! I don’t think that is going to help. I won’t run that race even though our company will pay for it.

2.6 miles outside today. It was really nice.

I have mixed feelings about RnR events. They do get attention, but so expensive and not always focused on what is best for runners and the running community (as opposed to their own profits). Where I live the local running club out on a marathon for years. It was small and low key and a constant battle with the city to map out a decent course. Then RnR came in. Suddenly the route could be whatever they wanted, no problem closing the streets, and the event grew 10x larger. It became a destination marathon for many people, so lots of hotel and restaurant benefits. But much more expensive and not good about promoting other running events.

Interesting, if tragic, fitbit story:

[How a mom’s Fitbit led police to charge her husband with her murder](http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/2017/04/how_a_mom_s_fitbit_led_police_to_charge_her_husband_with_her_murder)

^^^Wow, that’s crazy.

I am very negative on Competitor Group and their races. I do run them on occasion, but I think they are a sketchy outfit. For one thing, they lead runners (and the public) to belief that their race “benefits” certain charities- like St. Jude. Actually, it is up to the runners to fund raise and donate the money. The charity actually PAYS Competitor Group to get to be the “named charity”. So many runners don’t mind paying the high entry because “it is going to a good cause.” Don’t get me started.

Then there was the way they tried to screw the pro runners a few years ago by pulling back on the promises they made to them. I think they reversed position on that, but still…

And there was Las Vegas the year there wasn’t enough water and the water there was made a lot of runners sick!
