Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Ohio, hats off to you and wishing you the best the next few weeks. Just make sure you check back in with us before anyone else ok?!

BB, what a wonderful day it sounds like you had! Sounds so beautiful!

Up and at em early (for me on a weekend) this morning - long pup walk in and my own run. A shorter run - 2.5 miles - but at a faster speed - right at 10 minute mile. Small wins.

Off for a road trip today and tomorrow - will check in later!!!

Ohio, wishing you all the success you desire. You are a fierce competitor and will achieve your goals.

Ohio…wishing you the best! Good luck!

Had two great hikes along Lake Superior this weekend. I just love hiking outside.

Ohio, that is so impressive. You’re my hero. Go get those medals!

Happy training, ohio, and good luck! We will be rooting for you.

ohio- Wishing you the best! Love reading the goal and mission.

JustAMom5465- I’m sure that could be an emotional race for everyone. At the same time, what a wonderful way to remember his life.

I’ve decided to hit the reset button. I’m going to look at my workouts one week at a time. Yesterday I sat down and looked at what all was happening this week and planned my workouts around that. My graduate class for the semester has ended, so I’m going to try a body sculpt class that night in its place. I need to some of this other stuff in so I’m not just doing cardio all the time. I also just bought two new workout shirts at Target that will require some additional back work.

Wow, ohio, that’s awesome. I can’t wait to hear about it.

A lovely hilly 4-mile hike in the canyons near Santa Monica before flying back to reality. Mr B said he has never seen so many women in yoga pants in one spot.

I need to plan another Kalalau trail hike in December. Fingers crossed, I will be in hiking/running shape by then.

Lots of steps today–I went with the church youth group (I helped chaperone) to the Boston Walk for Hunger. It’s 20 miles, but I ended up doing 10. One chaperone didn’t want to do the whole thing, so we each did 10 miles. That’s longer than I usually walk, so I’m feeling it. Going to go to slow flow yoga tomorrow, which is heated (85-90 degrees) and should help with sore muscles.

Love your focus/intensity, Ohio. Hope you crush it!

I think you can do it no problem, Bunsen, with all the activity you’ve been doing. That should be easy for you.

Today was nothing but pup walks. We varied our route though and I made them do a hill climb. Didn’t seem to bother them though!

You’ve been getting some great hikes in, Bunsen! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Nahnah - my husband was at Target and came home with a new shirt for me - “Crunch then brunch”. New workout wear is a powerful motivator! I try to plan my workouts for the week (not always successfully) - I hope it works out well for you.

Best of luck @ohiopublic

It was a very chilly morning here - in the thirties! We seem to be going from one extreme to another around here. Ran an easy 7 miles - good way to start out the week. I get tired of the same routes but they are convenient for everyone to meet up. I need to make myself do some hill work if I am cutting back on mileage so that’s on the agenda for the week.

Looking forward to hearing C3Baker’s family race report - hopefully the rain let up!

The weather this weekend was just goofy. Cold like late March and rainy yesterday. Went to do a training ride yesterday morning, arrived at the departure point and met up with my training partners. The rain started coming down and we just bagged it. One of them decided to drive a new circuit she wants to use for time trial training and the other sat in my car and I showed her how to set up her new Garmin 820. The 820 really is one sweet bike GPS computer. The only other computer that comes close is the Wahoo Elemnt but the Garmin is still the most versatile and feature rich. I ended up doing a 70 minute indoor ride later in the day. Ugh. Need to keep doing weekend long rides in preparation for Habitat. Indoor trainer rides just ain’t gonna cut it. On the bright side, I did get to read another couple of chapters in my sports nutrition certification program and a couple of chapters in Defying Gravity, so the day wasn’t a total washout.

I’ve missed a lot here and will go back and catch up, but want to report in that I finished my Avon 39. (it was actually 25.7 on Sat and almost 16 on Sunday , so more like “Avon 42” ). I have the blisters and a few pains to show for it (getting a massage shortly) , but what an incredible event though clearly the most physically demanding I have ever done in my (just under) 60 years.

FallGirl, wow!! That is so awesome! I love that the most demanding event you have done was as you were older, not younger. That is so inspiring

FallGirl, I am so happy that you were not only able to participate in but complete what must have been a very challenging and emotional event for you. You trained so hard for the walk and I’m so glad for you! What an accomplishment. I don’t think I could have gotten out of bed after the first day!

I had a wonderful weekend so it is really hard to be back to reality today. We loved having our kids in town and it was great running the Mini Marathon as a family. I ran with D the whole time and it was so much fun. She is much slower than I am, so it was a very easy race for me. Hopefully I didn’t annoy her too much by being chatty and perky while she was struggling during the last few miles! She said she was really glad that we did it together because it pushed her to keep running when she probably would have taken walking breaks if she had been on her own. S and SIL were 14 minutes behind us, but that was much better than I expected due to SIL’s knee injury. H was 20 minutes ahead of us so he had some time to kill at the finish line waiting for the rest of the family. The day started cold and with a light rain, just generally miserable. But the rain let up very early on for us (we started in a later wave) and the clouds started breaking up mid-way, and we actually had sunshine by the end of the race. We look hilarious in our family photo at the finish. SIL is in shorts and a T-shirt, which is all he wore the entire race - he hates to be hot. D wore several layers, but the top 2 were tied around her waist and she just had a tank top at the end. And there I was, still with my raincoat on! My race bib was pinned across the zipper and I never took the time to unpin it to take the raincoat off and then repin the bib to my shirt underneath. But we were running so slowly that I never got all that hot and it wasn’t a problem for me, we just look silly all standing there with totally different levels of gear.

Yesterday was a bridal shower for my daughter and it was a lot of fun. Lots of old friends and a great chance to catch up with everyone. D also did a bachelorette party Saturday night after running the half marathon in the morning, and took a flight back last night that got her home at 1:00 am her time. So I think she is probably dragging at work this morning. Oh to be young again!

FallGirl - congratulations on completing the walk! Your commitment is amazing and it much have been a real challenge to get out there and do it with all the emotions you must be experiencing.

Bunsen - it sounds as if you had a fabulous weekend away!

Bromfield - great job with your walk this weekend!

sabaray - great job getting your week off to a good start with your run. You are amazing with all the cross training you do and your drive to stay focused on your goals.

MOWC - nice job on your run. You’ll get through the marathon - your consistency in running and training will get you there. Keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll have decent weather. A June marathon sounds challenging!

busdriver - you’re going to really nail that Pike’s Peak ascent!

Sorry that I missed wishing ohiopublic well as he heads out on his training. It will be really fun to hear how he does at the Senior Games next month!

FallGirl, congrats. That is a long haul, and the wet weather this weekend surely didn’t help. Give that body some love!

Congratulations FallGirl!! You did it and you raised $$ for a great cause. Rest and restore.
