@SalveMater do not worry about being too fat! You look great!
Do you have a nice running store in your town? Some of them have a great selection of sports bras.
Title Nine has good sports bras. I think I got my last sports bras at her room dot com. Have you looked at target. I think they revamped their sports bras.
One thing I have problems with is under my arms. If the bra comes up too high, it will rub.
Boy that angle’s really deceptive or I now have body dysmorphia Thanks for the encouragement but I’m weighing in at 185 and all the books say I’m 45 lbs over sigh.
Will check out Target this wknd. I made a funny observation about athletic clothes. They were displayed prominently at the front of the store in January, and briskly pulled out to the clearance aisle in Feb. lol
I forgot #3 in my sports bra rant above – the colors! I also wear a sports bra when I play golf, for ease of arm movement when I swing, etc. I do NOT appreciate a hot pink OR neon orange OR electric blue OR etc, bra showing under my pastel colored golf shirts!
Kohls has several brands of sports bras – and, as far as I can tell, everything is always on sale there, and I always seem to have a coupon. I got 2 of my favorites (Under Armour with a front zipper) at TJ Maxx. Of course they were there because UA was discontinuing them. Oh, and that brings me to a 4th rant: Why do the manufacturers have to keep changing things? I find something I like, but the next season/year they don’t make it any longer. (Actually, this applies to lots more than sports bras!) OK, now I’m done!
Some of the colored bras are fun and I like matching them to brightly colored shirts. But I wish they’d offer one neutral color to wear with white and light colored shirts.
As for discontinued items, I am right now furious with Trader Joe’s for discontinuing my favorite oatmeal, which provided 35% of my daily calcium needs. No other oatmeal even comes close.
Another thing @SalveMater. Don’t get hung up about how you look. Really.
I’m on a Facebook women’s running group. The women who post on the group are all sizes. Not everyone is stick thin. Or even thin. People are proud whatever their accomplishments. We have people who are fast and those who aren’t that fast. People post sweaty selfies all the time. And in the summer no shirts. I love it. Embrace it.
Time to zonk out. 14 hours in the bra, and not a single issue. So far, so good. I can probably fall asleep in it.
Will be pulling weeds and scrubbing the deck in it on Saturday (with a tee over so the neighbors will not fall out of their windows), will report again.
@SalveMater tell us a bit about your whole jogging routine. Also I forget - is running something new for you or did you run in the past??
what type of shoes are you wearing?
do you warm up by stretching/walking or anything?
what is your stride like - do you find yourself bouncing up and down a lot with a lot of leg movement - or do you have a longer stride that is more like a jog/walk?
If you haven’t run before I REALLY recommend downloading the Couch to 5K app - and start at the very beginning. The app has 3 workouts a week for you. You start with very short running times and more walking moving very gradually to a little more running, a little less walking. When I did it (starting at age 53) I would also sometimes repeat a workout if I felt my results of that workout were not that great. (I don’t mean repeat it right away but a couple days later instead of moving to the next scheduled workout I would just repeat the last one).
MANY of us on this thread got our start this way. It is a 9 week program. Finish it in 9 weeks or take 15 weeks if that is what feels right for you to feel successful!
BREATHING is super important to learn and truly takes some time. Maybe that is what is getting your body worked up.
But tell us more about your whole experience - we will help you!
@abasket I wear ASICs trainer, stretch then go out daily for 30 minute walk. In the evening, I hit the trail but I only walk for a bit then jog for a bit but it always feel like something’s falling out lol. I don’t think that’s normal. I think I’m following the Couch app. I seriously am not overdoing it. My stride is awkward, it’s difficult to lift my knees, ankles ache, groin muscles ache, possibly due to my sciatica. Ugh, such a hot mess am I.
I love that Croc running family! I would so love to think I could wear crocs for everything! I always wear them in the house (since having what I think was plantar fasciatiis a few years ago) but sometimes when I wear them out of the house, I feel like they catch on different kinds of floors. And I am afraid they will get in the way when I drive.
SalveMater–I am in no way the best authority on this because I really am not much of a runner. (I just read this thread for inspiration.) I started the Couchto5K program at age 55 after having avoided running for my whole life. When I started, I had all kinds of aches and pains that I couldn’t even name. Different parts of my feet, shins, calves, etc. plus something similar to what you are describing. I didn’t know if they were ligaments or what. Doing just those tiny distances meant that the pains didn’t last long and I would absolutely not push it if pain lingered. I repeated some of the early parts of C25K until I felt better. After a while, it seemed like all those parts of me kind of toughened up and then I could finally start running enough to feel it in my muscles instead of all those other strange parts of my body. I never did finish the whole program BUT I did successfully add running intervals into my regular walking so that I can get my heart rate up. I would still like to be able to run more but at least the run/walk thing is working well for me now as one kind of exercise–not always my favorite, but it’s convenient.
Got a chance to quickly glance over some posts. SalveMaster, I hope you can get to running and feeling great soon! I also love your posts. You seem to have a really great personality!!
I did three miles on the treadmill. I’m seriously over mother nature. It’s either so warm/humid I need to take it easy just because I’m not used to that weather yet, or cold and rainy. It has been raining too much, and pretty much every day I plan to run. %-( I was SO looking forward to running outside!!
And if I may be very self-centered for a moment, I would appreciate any good vibes. If I don’t get a transfer by the 31st, I’m back at my current school. I have an interview on Tuesday. It’s at the first place I interviewed at in March, and I didn’t get the position, but they called to interview me again. If I get it, I’ll go from a place that’s almost 30 miles away to a school that’s about 3 miles away. That means I can do some of my shorter runs before work (if I get up in time…), and I’d be at a less stressful place!
@orangepurple I am so glad to hear you experienced some of that too! Misery loves company. I will keep at it, next week…right now I am munching on a glazed donut then we are off to Wilson Creek Winery for my Mom’s Day wine tour and lunch Calories shmalories!
Salvemater - if you would like a support group for running see if there is a local running club near you that offers a training program. (if you are in DC NoVA Suburbs- PM me). That’s how I started running last year as I was turning 59 (never too old ).
SalveMater–Going back to one of your questions—although it is true that I had good results with the pains in strange places going away after increasing running intervals very slowly and never more than three times a week, if you really feel like your insides are falling out, look at this article: https://www.pelvicexercises.com.au/prolapse-and-running/
