^ Wow that guy’s comments were totally out of line.
That’s horrible.
So awful. DD’s high school race uniform was just like that - more than a bikini bottom; less than shorts. She competed in States (and won) - all other teams were similarly attired. No one ever said anything as ill informed and horrible.
Did 7 miles this morning. Very humid out. I feel like there are 4 running seasons: too hot; too cold; pollen; and POLLEN.
Interesting. Timing matters!

“Another” study supporting breakfast!!! ^^^
I can fall prey to the getting-home-from-work snacking. When the “nest is empty” - and especially now that it’s still light till after 8:30, I find myself grabbing a snack when I get home from work and often not eating dinner until after 8 - I’d just rather do other stuff - exercise, yard work, errands and then sit down later when I’m ready to “sit” for the night. I do realize then that I need to watch my portions since eating later = not much activity to burn it off.
I really have to watch out for that post-work snacking! And really working on that lower carb dinner is super important for me. That seems to be when I crave things like pasta. I am really working on portion control with pasta and am finding having it prepared and available for a lunch meal makes it a lot easier to eat far less of it. Good article, Bunsen, thanks for posting it!
I bring a cup of yogurt with my lunch, but I save it to be eaten as a snack around 4 pm. It really helps me with two things: I get my calcium and don’t feel like I am starving when I get home. An apple or a snack bar just don’t do it for me, but that yogurt fits the bill!
When I thought about it, I realized that most of my post-work snacks are carbs. I love this popcorn they sell at Costco - I think it’s called pipcorn - but I eat some and then I want more. It’s not satisfying. Yogurt is a good idea.
I often find that that after work snack…I like it to be “hand grabbing/pieces” snacks - so, popcorn, trail mix, nuts, and if I’m bad…chips. So grabbing one item isn’t good enough - like a piece of cheese. It’s probably an after work stress reliever - just calling it what it is!
Man… another gadget from Fitbit! It is a good thing the colors are not that great. ![]()

Quite a few of the articles I saw wanted to compare it to the iWatch…but it seems the Ionic is truly more of a fitness tracker than an “all-purpose” device.
I think if I buy one more fitness related item Mr. Sabaray will kill me. I just upgraded my Pilates membership and in hopes of enjoying running more, have cut back on mileage but am training for a 10k. My new coaching plan is working well - in the first month I lost 5.6 pounds and 4.5 inches from my “girth” (that’s the sum of all the measurements they have you do). I think being lighter will definitely help with the running.
Congrats, sabaray!!!
One benefit of the couple of treadmill miles I do after work in my basement (besides the mental benefit of decompressing after my work day) is that it takes away my hunger and I can’t really snack before I do the run. I just immediately get out of my work clothes and into running stuff and head downstairs. 20-30 minutes on the treadmill and my appetite is controlled. Unfortunately, even after a small dinner it comes raging back at about 8:30 pm while we are watching TV! That’s when I have to be careful.
Ha - I have an entire oral hygiene ritual that is a real PITA and I don’t want to repeat it - so once that’s done, eating is over for the night! I highly recommend it as an appetite suppressant!
I think watching TV causes a Pavlovian response in many people. I blame it on those damn TV dinners of the past!
We are having some issues with getting cable to our new place because we are landlocked, and the prior owners never had cable (used a dish and had no internet - why???), so we have not watched tv regularly for a couple of months. Frankly, I don’t miss it, but the weather has been so good that we often just sit on the deck and watch the bats do their nightly hunts, and sitting on the deck often involves a glass of vino, and a glass of vino needs some stuff to go with it… I have to keep Mr. from reaching for cheese! Cheese police.
I am a big four o clock/after work snacker, too. I have yet to find the food that satisfies.
In better news, I am traveling quite a bit but it is starting to settle down and be more predictable and so I decided to sign up for some road races in places I’ll be. I am excited!
I saw the Iconic too. I need to curb my buying appetite! (after just buying 2 pairs of fall boots on Amazon…)
Has anyone on here ever had a Life Coach? I don’t mean for exercise in particular, nor for me, but I know someone who seems to need one. In theory it sounds really good, but it could also be a waste of money.
@busdriver11 - DD had one (recommended to her by a fellow college sophomore who had found her helpful). I think they can serve a role sort of between therapist and emotional/mental Sherpa to the next stage of their life. But I do believe there are many practitioners who are not worth their fees.
