My kid is now researching sprint triathlons… at least we know what to get her for Christmas- a wetsuit.

The WildFamily is just full of rockstars. Great result for WildChild!

So happy for WildChild!!! Wooooo!!!

Congratulations to WildChild!

Good job, FallGirl!!

Congrats to wildSon! He must feel great!

Haha BunsenBurner - definitely a useful gift!

Thanks. The finish line picture is awesome with him holding the big tape that he got to break. Big smile.

I signed up to do a 10M race this Sunday with my new running group. Never done this specific distance before. I’m thinking I should treat it like a half? Good part is they all meet for brunch after, which should be fun.

That sounds like a good plan. I’d do a 10 miler for brunch!

I would treat it like a half. I usually ate a gel at about mile 9 to pre-empt the bonking at 15-16, but I would probably run 10M with just water/sports drink, no gels.

Thanks, BB – that sounds right to me. In terms of a kick, I’m going to wait til Mile 9 (no sooner) to give it whatever I’ve got left.

I went out with one of the hiking clubs I recently joined and did 12 miles on sandy trails in the dunes.

Unfortunately, two of my toes got blisters from the heat + sweat + sand. I wish I would’ve worn my Teva’s with socks instead of my Merrell trail runners. Oh well. Live and learn.

I’m happy because I can tell I’m making progress (getting stronger), and I’m meeting lots of interesting people to chit-chat with while hiking.

I’m particularly enchanted by the stories told by active women in their 70s (I’m mid-50s).

^I love meeting women a little older than I am who are still leading rich, vigorous lives. Let’s me know what to shoot for.

Me too – part of the reason I chose this running group is it’s supposed to have lots of women 50+. It’s inspiring.

I am 60 and run with a group that frequently includes women a few years older than me. When I trained for the Avon 39 last spring I found myself walking with a group of 5 women and I was the youngest! I absolutely am inspired by these women,

I’m actually the oldest woman in both of the groups I run with. Our local running club is a mix of ages from late 20’s/early 30’s up through several couples in their 50s. I’m the oldest woman at 56, but I’m almost the fastest woman in the group! There is one female grad student (I think she’s 24) who is faster than I am but I can stay with her during most of the runs, but not during races. There is a wide range of ages and abilities in our Back on My Feet running group but I am probably the oldest woman in that group also. It’s kind of fun to be able to hang in there with the young 'uns!

I bet you are the fastest, C3B!

There’s a woman in the next age group up from me and she usually come in faster than the top woman in the age group below me. 5:41 mile; 1:30 half marathon. I’d like to find out her training regime.

I would just like to have a loose circle of running buddies so on those days when I can’t get motivated, I know there’s someone else counting on me to show up.

This is what I long for. A running group (just once a week would be great!) of women “like me” in age and general pace. I passed a lady on the neighborhood trail earlier this week that I thought might fit this bill…I almost wanted to stop her and say, “hey, want to start a running group?!”

Do it, AB! Or just run along side and start chatting and see if she’s open to it. I’m starting to see some of the same faces around the same time and might try this. At this point, I think I know a lot of the squirrels too.

This makes me nostalgic. A good fifteen years ago I lived in a place where I had half a dozen female running buddies. We were within a ten year age range and close enough in pace we could run together. It was so nice to have company when I wanted it. We had this loose schedule of long runs, hills, and mid week longish runs. You would come if you could. I have had a much harder time finding running companions here.

My running group is the only reason I run as early in the morning as I do. You’ve just described my group, Lizardly! Move here! We have four “scheduled” days that include 2 longer, 1 shorter hillwork, and then a LONG run. All close in age - three pacings - fast, moderate and slow/injured. It makes a huge difference in my running enjoyment.
