So I’m signed up for OTF and will be going on Monday morning bright and early
Question for all of you who run longer races - would it be ok/appropriate/not weird if I bring some flowers to D at the finish when she runs her first half this month? I want to celebrate.
Tried on the new Brooks Levitate at the marathon expo today and really liked them. I could win a pair if I ran mile 21 (hill) faster than my average pace for the miles up to that tomorrow. I’m not even going to try. I’ll buy some when RRSports has them and I can use a discount or something. They feel like a cushioned Brooks Launch.
Those look comfortable and stylish BB. I’m starting to want to wear shoes with some padding while not running.
Standing barefoot on a tile floor making dinner makes my heels hurt. And traveling - wearing something like that helps as you walk through an airport, for sure.
Perfect weather for the 10 k. I still coughed a lot but time was 48:06.
4:46 and 3rd in my age group, which was a shock! It’s a huge race. Last year the times were much faster. I had rain before the start, at 12 and the whole last 10K. It was hard and it hurt! So glad it’s over! My daughter missed her goal of sub 4 but had an 11 minute PR with 4:09. She said she went out too fast.
That’s an amazing time, MOWC. Very close to your June marathon time, am I right? Congrats on placing third. Turns out I did the same to my surprise - the super fast ladies must have sat this one out. Congrats to your DD too - 4:09 is a great time.
I managed to hike 14 miles one day, then 12 miles the next day, without injuries. Hills, stream crossings, and log hopping to avoid mud. It was a fun weekend, and I’m lucky to have found a club with nice people to hike with.
@Midwest67 – that sounds like a great hike! Did you find your club through meetup? I also get some emails from REI about interesting hikes and day trips. Definitely helps to chat and hike with nice people.
We have some beautiful areas to hike and I would love to find some like-minded people. One of my biggest challenges is finding people I like to do active things with. I know a lot of younger people but unfortunately can’t keep up with them most of the time.
The pain of my disastrous MCM has finally faded from my mind and I’m thinking about ramping things up again with possibly a spring marathon. I have one in mind on April 7th which would mean starting to train mid-December. Any thoughts on mileage leading up to actually starting to train? I don’t want to wear myself out before I even start training, but I don’t want to let mileage get too low, either.
You had brutal conditions and still managed to rack up a lot of miles in that race! Good for you for considering another marathon.
I feel like you’ve got a decent base right now – aren’t you doing over 20 miles a week? I can’t remember what your training schedule was but it sounded like you had a good system down with hills, speedwork, and a long run.
I definitely eased off running and did more cross-training recently - I’m currently doing two shorter, hilly runs and a long run on the weekend (I can do 10 easily). Do you think 20 is a reasonable base?
