Sabaray - I am so happy that Mr. Sabaray has hopped on your bandwagon! It’s really helpful that he’s not hungry and that he knows he can still have a glass of wine or a beer occasionally. So many people start off with great intentions and that “all or nothing” mindset and then of course the enthusiasm runs out and so it goes. Your are such an inspiration for your family! Everyone will be looking good at your daughter’s wedding!
Mr. Sabaray was not always overweight - he was the athletic one when we met and married! I nagged Mr. Sabaray for a long time. And nothing changed. Actually, it did. He got heavier and heavier. I gave up. I think our D’s engagement reminded him he had a lot of happiness to look forward to after some truly miserable and sad times.
I think circuit strength is quite a bit like crossfit - no machines, just bodyweight exercise for the most part. We do use TRX, kettlebells, Bosu and dumbbells but that’s it! I’d tell you to study hard for your testing but I’m sure you’ve already put the work in.
Yeah, that’s the kind of test very few can wing without “studying”.
As I shared elsewhere, a co-worker of mine (executive at our company) died Saturday morning during an adventure athletic event (overnight event involving orienteering, canoeing, trail running and the like). He was on the water and had a heart attack. Age 39. Very fit. Former Army Major. Assuming he had medical screenings in the army. You just can’t count on anything, but you can enjoy the time you have more if you are healthy and fit.
Amen @MomofWildChild
For those interested in body fat testing, look at Body Metrix ultrasound units. Home version, which for all functional purposes is no different than the commercial version, sells for $495. Not much different than that new Garmin GPS enabled watch you might be drooling over. In addition to measuring body fat, it also will give you visceral fat profiles. Not quite the platinum standard of hydrostatic or dexascan testing but pretty close and relatively affordable and practical.
Oh goody…
That’s wonderful about Mr. Sabaray! I bet he’s feeling great about his progress too!
So sad about the sudden death of someone so fit and young, MOWC.
We don’t have a body fat testing truck around here – is it something your gym provides sushiritto? I did the testing once in college where you sit on a plank and get lowered into a tank of water. It think that’s what it was for…
Did my morning run with my group. One or two new faces. We all agreed to skip the big hill (phew!)
Hope the weather for your marathon is looking good, MOWC. Much more comfortable for my 10k – 69 max and might be in the high 50s when it starts. Sabaray – are you racing too this weekend?
Nope, no racing! I am running for enjoyment only. Hope all the racers have a successful weekend.
Enjoy your weekend races, dear racers!
Thanks. I’m petrified.
I know the feeling. I am a similarly scaredy cat. I have to remind myself that I am not betting my prized cow on me winning the race, as my grandpa used to say.
Good luck!
I give you a lot of credit, MOWC. I am very glad I’m not doing a marathon this year, and you’re doing 3! You’ll be great.
You don’t get a shirt until you finish, so there’s that…
You will do just great @MomofWildChild . Hope the weather is good.
I am buying an OrangeTheory pass this weekend. The fall/winter plan is to continue to run outside in the morning as long as I can and fill in with weekend runs, treadmill at home, and OrangeTheory. It is expensive but the only option that fits my schedule and provides me with the type of workout I am looking for.
On another note, it’s year end at work and for the first time in several years it has no impact on me. My new job is regular hours and much less stress. I am sleeping better and a coworker told me today that I looked more relaxed. This was a good change
Well I did some shoe damage today. Lulu sells APL shoes… what did I know!
Tried on their sockless shoe… felt good for walking around. Not sure about running. I am positive baby kiddo will swipe these for her Crossfit adventures and Krav Maga (sp?) training.
I saw those were available at some locations! I am waiting a few weeks as an Altra rep is coming and I want the benefit of their expertise. I don’t think I need a shoe that’s quite as supportive now.
I hope you like. OT, FallGirl. I’ve seen some folks get incredible results. Really glad your stress level is down.
Way to go, FallGirl! Stress is nasty.
It was a beautiful morning here - it seems fall has actually arrived. Got in an easy 10.1 miles and it felt great. Two weekends in a row! Took the pups for a nice walk - now I just want to nap!
