10 miles at 79 degrees. Wow. That was a tough race, no questions. Congrats on racing so well!
Thanks MOWC and BunsenBurner - I am definitely used to racing when it’s 55-65 degrees. This heat is unusual for this time of year.
Congrats @Classof2015 ! You ran a good race.
@FallGirl - thanks!
Kudos to the guy for coming to race - in the wrong race ![]()
That’s hilarious!
Hmmm…from Ohio… @ohiopublic ???
Been to Birmingham----Alabama and London----Ohio!
I guess that’s one way to get a European vacation! I’ll have to think about that for future planning.
I’ve been going to a circuit strength class for 8 weeks now. When we started there was no way I could do a burpee - it was pathetic! This morning I did Bosu burpees with a resistance band around my quads. There’s a lot to be said for consistency and keeping at it. Since starting my weight loss coaching program I’ve only lost 10 pounds since our first weigh in but 8.5 inches from my girth. Most importantly, most of the loss has come from my midsection. Thank goodness!
Huge congrats, @sabaray! Two 5-lb parties <:-P and 8.5 1-inch parties!! Burpees as party favors.
That’s the toughest part to trim down IME – my SIL calls it our “menopot”. Way to go, sabaray! I tried burpees once. You would have fallen down laughing. That sounds like a great workout.
I can’t remember what I’m posting where so if this is repeat news my apologies. I keep thinking of iDad’s burpees - I hope he knows I’m doing them!
No apology needed! Even if it was a repeat. I don’t think so. Repetition is the mother of mastery… You posts are very motivational, sabaray!
I made grilled steak and veggie salad for dinner last night. As we sat down on the patio to eat, I thought, “idad would have approved this dinner.”
The other good news is that Mr. Sabaray has finally joined the health and wellness bandwagon. He has lost 19 pounds since June. I think he finally realized he’d feel a lot better if he lost some weight. Right now we are just working on diet and some moderate walking. Baby steps.
Congrats to you and your husband @sabaray.
The mobile hydrostatic body fat test truck is coming next Tuesday. The last time I was tested was last year. I’m hoping my % has dropped a little.
I would like to have the body-fat testing done. A few years ago I tried a weight loss program run by our gym (which also happens to be run by our local health care system) and was shocked that the most sophisticated testing method they had was the hand-held gadget anyone can buy. In fact, we have one! It collects a lot of dust - basically a useless item. I live in the boonies so I doubt the mobile test truck will be arriving anytime soon.
I think switching up my routine has been beneficial. I don’t think I’ll ever do Crossfit but I’m enjoying the variety and the changes I can see physically. There were a couple of weeks where I thought “I really just want to eat donuts” but I’m so glad I didn’t.
That’s great news about Mr. Sabaray!
I think he was surprised at how easy it is. When we went on vacation, I took quite a bit of reading material and I was surprised to see him picking up a Runner’s World nutrition guide. We had an eating tour of Charleston, but we walked everywhere. When I started the program, I told him the new habit each time one was introduced since he was interested - no nagging required and I wasn’t telling him everything he was doing wrong or what he should be doing. It’s more about what you can have and can do instead of the old diets of denial. He’s not hungry, he can still have a beer or glass of wine on occasion, his health markers are improving, I’m really happy for him.
Sabaray, that is so great to hear!
Did Mr. Sabaray join the fitness revolution on his own or did you have to nudge him?
I’m one of those “nut cases” about my diet and exercise. Diet is nearly 100% paleo, but I have to occasionally have sushi (hence my CC name). And you guys will laugh, but when my kids have pizza, I do like a good non-oiled edge/crust. However, I haven’t had cheese (feta, ricotta is fine) in a few decades.
CrossFit is defined as constantly functional movements performed at high intensity. Picking up my D’s laundry off the floor is a deadlift. :)) Seriously, you can design a program at home or your local track or park and get a CF workout done. CF just despises those rows of machines at the gym. A Box has much open space and not a lot of “accoutrements.” They emphasize the simple.
I have a CF t-shirt that says on the front “routine is the enemy.” So, switching up your routine is/was smart. Keep it up.
I’m a little nervous about the body fat test. It’s like my SAT Subject Test. I want an 800. But a 700+ is still strong. X_X
