It was a similar scenario here this summer with smoke from BC and WA fires.
I was once almost run down by a crazy spandex-clad macho cyclist on the trail, too. The elderly couple that he passed on the way to the almost-collision gave him an earful. Most folks using the trail are nice and friendly, but there is one or two bad apples once in a blue moon.
This justice kicks serious behind - with the help of her trainer who says that exercise is apolitical. Interestingly, he designed the routine to include functional exercises:
"Johnson also has designed the workout to feature functional exercises — those that will help aging athletes get on and off a toilet, or reach items on a top shelf, when there’s no one around to help. "
Someone needs to get that book and review it for us!
I’m at the point where my weight is pretty stable so I need to make some more adjustments to continue losing. This weekend will be another measurement day and I’ll be curious to see how those have changed. If those continue to decrease I am not going to worry too much about the pounds piece. This week is a focus on healthy fats. While I can’t say I’ve really learned anything new from a nutritional standpoint, the accountability is a big plus.
I got a nice email from Lulu asking me to take their survey and in return I got 20% off my order (clearly I am spending too much $$ there). One of the items arrived today and it is almost too big. I could probably size down but then I would feel self-conscious.
I’ve been at 2 different lululemon in the past month. One was near my D and her friend works there.
IMO I think lulu has changed their sizing. I tried on my usual size at both places and both sales people put me in a smaller size than I have at home and that still fit. In one pair of tights I went down 2 sizes. The tops were still the same size but the fit was looser, which was great as I felt the arms were pretty tight on some of my other stuff.
I don’t live near a lululemon but am finding because their sizing is all over the place, that I have to go in and try on instead of buying on line.
I got the 20% off email also ;). It wasn’t good for my budget.
It sounds like things with your nutrition are going well @sabaray
Sorry to interject here but I’m not sure which other thread to post in and it’s not worth starting its own thread.
Has anyone here dealt with liver problems? I was in the hospital last week and a scan for something else found a tumor on my liver. All the ER docs said they could tell from the scan is that it’s not a “simple cyst.”
My question is: what the heck doctor deals with liver stuff? My PCP is on maternity leave so she’s not helpful. I have an appointment with another PCP this Thursday that I’ve never met with. I’ve sent the results of the CT scan to both my Rheum and GI and am waiting for their response.
I’ve learned that when I meet with new doctors, my medical history kind of overwhelms them and I need to ask for very specific things. If there is a type of specialist I should ask for, I want to know before going in to my appt on Thursday.
Romani, sorry to hear that. It could be a hepatologist, a gastroenterologist, or infectious disease specialist depending on the issue and the origin of that mass. Your treating team should be able to provide you with appropriate specialist referrals.
How much experience does the ER doc have in looking at livers? He is right to pass you to someone who knows more, but it could be something benign so don’t worry yet.
My story: a few years ago I had an MRI to rule out a list of horribles related to a tumor on my ovary. The radiologist was not very interested in my ovarian growth, which was nothing bad, because he was so distracted by my terrible hip arthritis (!) and my giant liver hemangioma. Everyone was so freaked out the MRI disc was sent to the Uni hospital tumor board. The board took one look and said “eh, we’ve seen worse and this is benign.”
But yes, I was very worried until I heard back. I hope your growth is also a non issue.
So D ran her half on Sunday. Her goal was to finish in 2 hours and she missed that by one minute. She was pleased with her time though and we (me, H , SIL and a friend) proudly welcomed her at the finish line! Just talked to her and she felt fine yesterday and today so it sounds like she trained well. This is my kid who didn’t “get” why her friends ran cross country in HS.
Yay to non-runner kids who turn into running shoe-burning machines. jk. Congrats to your daughter, @FallGirl!
Romani - I hope the mass the er flagged is nothing serious. I went for a CT of the upper belly and ended up getting a mammo to take a look at a mass that the radiology expert was concerned with. Benign. But it was not his jurisdiction.
@FallGirl – that’s a great time! She should be proud. Half’s are tough. So great you were there at the finish line! Did she see her 5k splits? I found it was helpful to see where I was falling off, time-wise, in terms of planning for the next one.
Romani – I had elevated liver enzymes when I had a check up 2 days after the NYC marathon. I ultimately got referred to a liver specialist who did a bunch of tests including a liver sonogram. Are you near a big city where there are liver specialists?
I had a good exercise day today. This morning I had a nice 5.3 miles around the neighborhood, including a hill I am challenging myself with. After work, I went to a Pilates mixed apparatus class which, while challenging, has the effect of PT. I always feel better when I’m done!
